The Science in Intended Curriculum and Framework Documents in Selected Countries
Holec, Jakub ; Dvořák, Dominik (advisor) ; Knecht, Petr (referee) ; Žák, Vojtěch (referee)
The main aim of this study is to enrich the discourse on developing an intended form of the science curriculum in different country contexts. A multi-case study research design uses methods of content and comparative analysis to find answers to the research questions. The empirical part of the thesis consists of single case studies of England, Finland, Scotland and the United States of America containing contexts of the current curriculum development, description and interpretation of analysed structural and content phenomena in the curriculum of primary (ISCED 1) and secondary education (ISCED 2). Based on the single case studies of curricula, a comparative multi-case study is conducted, which focuses on the identification and interpretation of common and different features in the structure and content of the curricula to be compared. The studied documents can be divided into competency- oriented and subject-oriented curricula, nevertheless, each curriculum contains elements of both approaches. The subject content of the contemporary curricula seems to be more elaborated or at least more detailed than in documents of the previous decade. It is possible that even in the field of curriculum development there is political influence of neoconservative forces or an intellectual influence of so-called...

This thesis is about the possibilities of including integrated science subjects teaching at czech schools. It presents historical milestones that had an impact on education and the current state of teaching science subjects in the Czech Republic. Because of a declining interest of students in natural sciences, the several newer teaching strategies of proven foreign research are elaborated in the theoretical part of the work. The research of this work is focused on the opinions of a selected sample of teachers, which are related to their idea of the ideal concept of integrated teaching in the implementation of established in Czech schools. Another goal of the work is to reveal the pros and cons of this form of teaching. The research was conducted on a selected sample of teachers which were willing to engage in research voluntarily. The research questions should revealed teachers claims on four categories - strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of integrated teaching, which was included in the second round of assessment. The ideal concept of integrated teaching from the perspective of the interviewed teachers was also identified in the first round. Data from the first round were given by respondents in the second and third rounds for evaluation according to relevance, which ranked the...
Inquire-Based Science Education in General and Inorganic Chemistry

This thesis deals with the possibility of implementing Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) into teaching practice mainly at elementary schools. The focus is put on teaching general and inorganic chemistry. The theoretical part consists of the conceptual apparatus and research methodology related to implementation of IBSE activities into teaching. It also discusses how important may implementing of the IBSE principles be for supporting the student interest in science and for upgrading their scientific abilities which may make it easier in future to put the young generation into practice. Another chapter describes current situation in practical application of the IBSE in Czech Republic. It summarizes basic theories and experience with introducing IBSE into classrooms. The thesis also analyses the selection of curriculum suitable for applying IBSE in chemistry and chemistry didactics. The practical part of the thesis incorporates educational documents for working within IBSE principles and gives an overview of results of author's own research, realized between 2014 - 2016. The research was focused on attitude of students towards chemistry and its evolution after implementing the IBSE principles. Based on results of this research, specific drafts of IBSE implements are rendered for general and inorganic...
The position of the chemical experiment at the time of ICT - aluminum and its compounds
Sloup, Radovan
The main goal of the thesis is to describe a position of the real experiment in chemistry at the beginning of the 21st century and to contribute to solution of speculations if this didactic tool is or is not at current schools such a rarity as it's often described. The starting point of the thesis is extensive research of the literature related to history of natural science literacy which is condition not only for the right experiment interpretation but also of its suitable usage in the lessons. The theoretical part observes also the ensuring of the chemical experiment in the curricular documents and its position in the chemistry teaching in recent past. The experiment is a dynamic visualia therefore the visualias are classified in particular part of the thesis and their occurrence and function are described - in today's information society, chemistry textbooks, as a part of hypermedia programs for chemistry teaching and in lessons in general. The thesis focuses partly on hypermedia programs, especially then on materials for chemistry teaching that proved to be helpful in e-learning. Through the questionnaire inquiry at primary and secondary schools in Czech Republic were discovered not merely material also personal options of the schools and chemistry teachers in relation to the experiment...
