Affective turn of political communication on social media

1 This dissertation examines the transformations of political communication through the lens of the affective turn explaining the interrelationships between the energy of the political leader, the subsequent intersubjective process of emotional energy production among his supporters, ritual and parasocial relations, and the establishing of political fandom. The thesis explores individual phenomena through virtual ethnography, taking the paralinguistic and phatic aspects of communication as the defining features of affective expressions. The analytical part of the thesis explores the Přísaha movement, its leader Robert Šlachta and the movement's Facebook community as representative of this broader phenomenon. In particular, the dissertation highlights the uniqueness of the resulting synergy creating political fandom and the fact that despite strategically managed and inauthentic communication, the resulting emotions of the supporters are authentic, and they experience intense feelings of hope, courage, love or care. The energy of the leader himself is the primary stimulus that draws followers into the movement, and encourages their activity. Who are we and who are we becoming within social network sites?

The presented thesis aims to analyze the impact of social networking sites (SNS) in shaping our identity. Especially in the context of changes in everyday life caused by significant increase of SNS users. Unlike previous forms of online identity the identity of SNS users is anchored in the reality. Therefore our identity performance in this environment is closely tied to our real identity and real social network. Part of the thesis describe the influence of real social network on our lives, particularly the strong of weak ties is discussed. The analysis is focused on the processes and forms in which is our identity constructed and manifested within social networking sites. Detailed consideration is aimed on narrative and fragmentary characteristics of such identity. Also the consequences of total indexing of user-generated content and its persistent features are examined. This topic is followed by setting the framework of reputation management and protection of personal data. The findings of research present the forms of user identity on Facebook, the use of privacy settings and in particular the importance of the size of the networks of friends. The relationship between socialization in SNS and in the real world is described.
Life without Facebook: Experimental study of non-using the social networking site Facebook

The diploma thesis Life without Facebook: Experimental study of non-using the social networking site Facebook focuses on non-usage of social networking sites and reflection of the disconnection from it. It aims to map functions that Facebook performs in indiviual and social life of a man, ideas about life without it and the experience of disconnection that was induced under the terms of one week experiment. The aim of the study is to outline what life without Facebook is like, point out possible advantages and disadvantages of it and describe what a person disconnected from social networking site can face both within him or herself and its social surroundings. This diploma thesis aims to contribute to understanding the importace of Facebook in our society as well as offer some paths to reflect its use. In the first theoretical part it offers a description of topics related to social networking sites from the media studies point of view. Facebook and adults

Diploma thesis discusses one of the largest social network sites - Facebook. It aims to find out how is perceived by its older users, that means, trying using semi-structured individual interviews to answer the following questions: "How adults uses Facebook? What does it lead to? And can be find similar criteria in Facebook in the use of Facebook as among adolescents or is more suitable use the approach with the help of a typology users?" Based on research it was found that the development of adults use on Facebook passes through similar stages as development of adolescents use, but with large differentiation, not only between the two different age groups, but also between adults. Grasping the behaviors of adults seem to be more appropriate with the creation of their typology which allows more account of the individual features of individuals, whether they are Provokatéři, Neználci, Závislí or Ledabylí users. Patterns of usage of online social network Facebook: a psychographic analysis

In this diploma thesis I explore the topic of publics on online social networking sites. I also focused on how the concept of publics affects how users behave and present themselves on online social networking sites, taking Facebook as an example. Identity management is an extensively researched area. However, less attention is paid to understanding the ways how users define their audience and how precise such a concept can actually be. In this thesis I set to understand how teenagers think and conceptualize different types of audiences they may encounter and how such imagined audience influences the way they use Facebook. Since this is a topic considerably difficult to think of let alone speak about, especially for young people, I chose projective techniques used in a focus group to overcome these obstacles. Using this method I tried to get answers on the research questions and obtain an insight as to how people imagine their audiences on online social networking sites, what are the most prominent types of users, and how it affects, in turn, their usage of Facebook. O pojmu reputation management bylo dlouhou dobu slyšet převážně v oblasti marketingu ve spojení s budováním brandu. S rozvojem sociálních médií se na trhu objevily nástroje měřící osobní reputaci, jež kvantifikují uživatelovu interaktivitu na základě několika proměnných. Ty našly své uplatnění v rukou nepočetných social media profesionálů a geeků. Jak ale k řízení osobní reputace v sociálních sítích přistupují běžní uživatelé? Jak hodnotí reputaci členů svých sociálních sítí a jak se tyto poznatky odráží na jejich vlastním projevu? Tato práce se snaží nalézt cestu k zodpovězení těchto a dalších otázek. The usage of online social networks in public administration

This bachelor thesis pursues the issue of social networks and their application in public administration. The theoretical part specifies basic terms related to public administration. The following part presents the list of the most common social networks today. The list is sorted according to which social networks are useful for public administration. First, there is the development of these networks described. Second, the characteristics related to website administrator and financial demands are explained. The analytical part of this bachelor thesis is based on questionnaire which has been performed among social network users. The goal was to find out whether local governments' communication and performance is beneficial for users of the same social network or not. This research has been complemented by the analysis of the county town's social networks where the data has been compared and gathered for specific time period with theoretical foundation and professional recommendations. Measuring the reaction time between sending the question to the participating local governments via Facebook and their response is also a part of the analysis.
