Parental considerations and decision-making in the area of postponement of school attendance

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of postponement of school attendance from the perspective of parents. The thesis is divided into three parts - theoretical, methodological and analytical. The theoretical part defines the kindergarten as the first facility that the child and his parents meet. It shows additional activities - speech therapy care, stimulation program, psychological and pedagogical diagnostics. It defines terms such as school readiness, school maturity and delay in school attendance. The last chapter frames the kindergarten from the point of view of the overall system of education in the Czech Republic. In the methodological part, the goal of the research, the research questions are presented. How the data will be interpreted. To obtain them, a semi-structured interview was used with eight parents who either decided to delay school attendance or their child properly entered the first grade. School maturity and postponement of school attendance and speech disorders

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of school maturity, the communication level of preschool children and the postponement of school attendance from the point of view of speech therapy and school counseling facilities. The theoretical part contains three chapters devoted to topics necessary for defining the qualification work. The content of the first chapter is an introduction to the theoretical framework of communication and child development from birth to preschool age with a primary focus on speech development. The second chapter defines impaired communication ability from the general basis to the specifics of communication of children in preschool and younger school age. The third chapter analyzes the support of preschool children's communication skills, the area of school readiness with the examination of school maturity in a pedagogical-psychological counseling center and postponement of school attendance. In the practical part, the methodology of qualitative research and the research investigation itself are presented. Comparison of urban and rural kindergartens with regard to children with delayed school attendance

In my diploma thesis, I deal with the comparison of urban and rural kindergartens with regard to the granting of deferrals of compulsory schooling. The aim of the work was to clarify the issue of postponing compulsory schooling and to find out the frequency, reasons for postponing compulsory schooling and the opinions of parents and teachers on questions on the given topic, all from the point of view of comparing urban and rural kindergartens. The work is divided into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part serves as an introduction to the topic. In the first chapter of the theoretical part, I define concepts such as kindergarten - its functions, tasks, cooperation with parents and elementary school. In the second chapter, I define individual areas of maturity and readiness. The third chapter contains a theoretical summary of information on school attendance delays. The practical part was implemented in the form of a questionnaire survey with two groups of respondents - parents of children with delayed school attendance and kindergarten teachers. Development strategy for school maturity in the preparatory year of primary school

My bachelor´s thesis is focused on development strategies in the field of school maturity within a preschool year of a primary school seen from the school as well as the parents side. For fulfilling the tasks of this work, methods of a quality research have been used. The theoretical part deals with defining the basic concepts regarding the above mentioned topic of the work, mainly the periods of preschool education, school maturity and weakening of partial functions (respectively social disadvantage) at children with special educational needs in the preschool year of the chosen institution. The practical part was realised by a case method that was satisfied mainly by information based on semi - structured dialogues, decriptive analysis, observation, and material and document studies in the chosen institution.
The contemporary problematics related with postponement of school attendance from the perspective of kindergarden and primary school teachers

The name of this bachelor thesis is "Current issues related to the postponement of school attendance from the perspective of kindergarten and primary school teachers." It identifies current issues related to the postponement of school attendance, current reasons and the meaning of postponement from the perspective of kindergarten and primary school teachers. It deals with how primary and kindergartens cooperate in the transition of children to basic education. It also focuses on the cooperation of the family with the kindergarten. This bachelor thesis consists of theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the characteristics of the child at the turn of preschool and early school age, defines the concepts of school maturity, school readiness and their areas. In the practical part, a questionnaire survey is carried out using the method of an Internet questionnaire. The research group consists of primary and nursery school teachers. The answers result in teachers' opinions on the issues, reasons and meaning of school postponements and the related school readiness and maturity of children in the transition to basic education. It also contains the results of a questionnaire survey, the aim of which was to find out whether the cooperation between the family, kindergarten and primary school influences the child's transition to primary school.
School maturity and preparedness from the point of view of speech therapists

This diploma thesis focuses on school maturity and preparedness from the perspective of speech-language therapists. The theoretical part focuses on the preschool child, his characteristics, and growth in all areas, including speech. Furthermore, it introduces speech disorders in preschool children by describing what impaired communication skills are and also discusses the most common speech disorders among preschool children. The thesis also presents information about speech therapy prevention, stating what its principles are, and also introduces preschool education in the context of speech therapy prevention. The last chapter deals with the child's preparation for entering the first grade, explains the difference between school maturity and school preparedness and introduces school immaturity and school deferrals. The practical part is prepared with the help of a qualitative research investigation, where a structured interview with open questions was used. Speech therapy prevention and musical activities for children with delayed school attendance

The bachelor thesis deals with the association between speech therapy prevention and music activities in preschool education. The aim of the thesis is to discover whether the means of music education can improve the language and speech of children with delayed school attendance. The theoretical part describes the issue of delayed school attendance. It deals with reduced communication skills and its categories, different mother tongue and bilingual family environment, since the subject of the research are children from these settings. The development of speech in the language layers is discussed, too. This part also deals with speech therapy prevention in kindergarten and its connection with musical activities. The practical part is devoted to action research, which includes an initial diagnosis of children with delayed school attendance, describes the course of the research and evaluates the impact of musical activities in speech therapy prevention on the language and speech of children with delayed school attendance. The practical part also includes a questionnaire survey that provides data on the course of speech therapy prevention in kindergartens. Role of the teacher and his/her responsibility in assessing student's maturity when enrolling in the first grade of primary school

The topic of this diploma thesis is devoted to the issue of a children enrolment to the first form of a basic school as an important milestone in their life. The theoretical part deals with the topic of the enrolment in its full scale. The author presents an overview concerning the issue of school maturity, school preparedness and their diagnostics. Further she deals with the topic of a postponement of school attendance and legislation. The main chapter of the theoretical part is the topic of competencies which a teacher of primary education should have at disposal during enrolments. In the practical part of this diploma thesis the author gives space to teachers, who, by means of a questionnaire and an unstructured interview, reflect their opinions and feelings concerning their role during enrolments. The author deals with their pedagogical competency. The teachers have an opportunity to present their opinions about the current form of the enrolment procedure. The outcome of this thesis is a discussion about usefulness of the current enrolment procedure and concrete suggestions for a change.
Pupil with communication disorders in preparatory class

The bachelor thesis "Pupils with Communication Disorders in Preparatory Classes" analyses the issues of preparatory classes. It develops the competences of school readiness and preparedness. The thesis summarizes the speech development as a basis for the diagnosis of communication disorders. It declares the positive effects of preparatory classes on the development of communication skills of children with postponed school entry in the region of Prague 9. The thesis proves the need to include children with communication disorders into preparatory classes. It offers the possibility to the parents of children attending preparatory classes to express their opinions on the functioning of these classes. It informs parents of preschool children in the region of Prague-East about the existence of preparatory classes and it monitors the level of parents' awareness. A mixed-method research is applied in the study. It combines a quantitative method - a questionnaire - and qualitative methods - structured dialogues and case studies. In the conclusion of the thesis practical recommendations are offered: amendment of the Education Act and the implementation of school-readiness testing at the beginning and at the end of the school year.
