Agenda-setting at the Local Level

The rigorous thesis named Agenda-setting at the Local Level deals with concept agenda-setting and applies it on the research made in local conditions. It is checked to what degree the process of agenda-setting is functional on this level and how in the concrete it expresses oneself. At the same time follows up-to-date trend of research in agenda-setting being characterized by displacement from macro structural level to micro structural level and by replacement of general hypotheses to concrete hypotheses. The rigorous thesis describes relationships among citizens of Nové Město na Moravě including integrated villages as representatives of local public agenda, toll-free fortnightly Novoměstsko that belongs to local media agenda and municipal politicians as representatives of local political agenda. It is based on groundbreaking studies that checked the validity of agenda-setting on the macro structural level and it is used quantitative and qualitative methods that propped oneself upon that studies. The way of fortnightly publishing and the town government were changed in the period between the first and the second research. Therefore, the rigorous thesis also analyzes impact of these changes on the process of agenda-setting.
The impact of coronavirus crisis on the media coverage of climate change topic in Czech daily newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes

The coronavirus crisis has affected the way of life on the planet. Due to the speed and intensity with which it has spread, it earned a lot of media attention. This space was given to it at the expense of other, less attractive topics. The bachelor's thesis focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on media coverage of climate change. Using the quantitative content analysis, relevant articles from 2019 and 2020 were examined. The first chapters represent the theoretical basis and insight into the issue. They deal with climate change and climate extremes, the coronavirus crisis, including its course in the Czech Republic, and describe the basic concepts of media theory that are necessary for a proper understanding of the topic of this thesis. The methodology chapter sets out the objectives of this work, research questions, and procedures. The last two chapters present the obtained data and answers to the research questions. The result of the analysis was that the coronavirus crisis negatively affected the articles dealing with the topic of climate change. In absolute numbers, there was a decrease in almost all examined categories. The only exception was the average length of the articles, which increased by 7.8%. Propaganda and Agenda setting in 1953 Czechoslovak Cinema newsreel

The purpose of this work is to analyze the content of Czechoslovak cinema newsreels in 1953. From a historical point of view this year was important because of the death of J. Stalin and K. Gottwald and especially by the monetary reform. The governing Communist Party needed to stitch with the imagine of right established way also because of these events. In order to achieve the purpose I will perform both quantitative content analysis, each of publication of the weekly newsreel I will write down in a coding book, wherewith I will find out the topics and scope devoted to them in the weeklies, as well as qualitative content analysis, focusing on how is given the impression of certain topics. With the help of reference books, I will analyze the elements of manipulation and propaganda in chosen contributions.
Media portrayal of Andrej Babis before the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of Parliament of the Czech republic in 2017

The Master's thesis focuses on the creation of the media image of one of the most distinctive and controversial current Czech politicians, Andrej Babiš, in the period prior to the 2017 general elections in the Czech Republic. The media image building process is viewed through the lens of agenda-setting theory in major daily newspapers and the Facebook page of ANO, Mr. Babiš's party. The aim of the thesis is to use mixed research to describe the creation of Mr. Babiš's media persona and to determine whether media discourse was influenced by intermedia agenda-setting process. In the quantitative analysis of this research, the volume and content of topics established by Mr. Babiš's media activity will be explored. The topic with the greatest relevancy and frequency will be used to determine the framework of the creation of Mr. Babiš's media image, discuss to what extent Mr. Babiš managed to control the outcome, and what role was played by the intermedia agenda-setting process. The election of the Director General of Czech Television in 2017 as a news topic

The thesis deals with the election of the Director General of Czech Television in 2017. The topic is viewed from the perspective of the media agenda of print and online media. The researched media was chosen by the key of the highest readership in the period from the beginning of January to the end of April 2017. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the specifics of the effects of media, which categorizes into three types. Furthermore, the theory mentions the concept agenda-setting, which belong to the long-term effects of the media, and which includes the examined media agenda. The theory also defines the concepts of public service and public service media, related terms and basic legal anchoring. The theoretical part also presents the Czech Television institution and its supervisory body, which elects the General Director, the Council of Czech Television. The practical part, through the analysis of news outputs that were published for the election in the defined period, using quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of the frameworks, shows how the choice was displayed in the media environment and what topics it raised. Agenda Setting Role of Mass Media

The goal of here below presented text is the introduction of the concept of the agenda setting and to try to prove the validity of this theory on the thematic field of economic policy in the period from January 2009 to March 2010. For this purpose two data sets were used. The first one, which represents the public agenda, contains the data from continuous research of public opinion realized by the Public opinion research center (CVVM). The second one is the result of the quantitative content analysis of the TV news and presents the importance of the above mentioned thematic field in the media agenda. For proving of the causal relationship in between those two agendas the method of the pair correlations was used. The results confirm the relatively strong correlation between the media coverage of the topic and its position in the public agenda`s framework. It has been proved that an important role in the whole process represents the fact whether the news is domestic or foreign as well as the importance of gender. The time factor appeared also as a main intervening variable.
