Evaluation of two diagnostic tools used to diagnose school readiness

The thesis is devoted to the issue of school readiness and its diagnosis. The aim was to compare the two tests used for the testing of school readiness and to assess whether the comparatively evaluate some aspects of school readiness. In the first chapter of the theoretical part the area of development of preschool children in describe. The second chapter is devoted to major changes in the legislation of our education. The next two chapters (third and fourth) are on school readiness, enrollment in elementary and diagnostics of school maturity. The last, fifth chapter of the theoretical part, deals with immaturity and unpreparedness for entry into school. In the practical part I focused on in-house testing and evaluation of tests used. For testing, I chose two tests used to evaluate school maturity. The results of the two tests I tried using statistical methods to determine whether these tests evaluate comparatively. Role kindergarten in the diagnosis and the development of school readiness

In my thesis I focus on diagnosing school maturity of children and finding out possibilities of its development. In theoretical part I describe pre-school period as such, then I focus on pre- schools involved in the "Beginning together" program. Furthermore, I explain characteristics of school maturity and ways how to develop them, and finally I address Pedagogic - psychological diagnostics of school maturity. In practical part I researched into how pre- schools with the "Beginning together" program work with pre-school children and children with delayed school entry, I also researched if this program has any special procedures for development of school maturity.
Diagnostics and eligibility of students upon entry to primary school

This thesis deals with diagnostics of school maturity. It inquires to what extent the screening test of school maturity is able to predict the future school success of a child. Furthermore, it describes the problems of influence of gender, age, city and countryside environment, parents' education and completeness of a child's family on their success at school. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part defines the main characteristics of preschool age, deals with problems of school maturity, its diagnostics, it indicates possible impacts on school maturity. Finally, it describes school immaturity and school attendance postponement. The research part focuses on children's results from the screening test of school maturity and compares them with their marks in the first grade of primary school and indicates the predictive validity of the screening test using statistical methods. Moreover, it statistically evaluates the influence of the chosen factors on school maturity.
Analysis of the causes of school suspension in the regional investigation context

The purpose of this thesis was to identify the most common causes of school suspension within a regional survey in comparison with the views of parents, elementary and kindergarten teachers. In connection with this theme the author dealt with pre-school child characteristics focusing on school maturity diagnosis and school suspension problematics. The main reasearch was realised i Pedagogical-psychological advice centre in Kladno in 3 selected years ranging from 1999 to 2010. The method of analysis has been used to collect the data. A survey in a form of an anonymous questionnaire clearified opinions of selected respondents. On the basis of this observation a casuistry of a school suspended child with specific needs has been made. This casuistry demonstrates further development of a child after starting it's school attendence. Submitted results of the thesis confirmed the opinions of experts in this field as well as conclusions of researches focusing on school suspension issues. It has been found out, that the most common causes of school suspension in the examined lokality are the issues of speech, visual and hearing perception, graphmotorics and school work maturity. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the topic of school-matureness diagnostics.Through theoretical background it presents, at which level a child should be developed enough in terms of his/her character and knowledge, before entering the compulsory school attendance. Terms such as school knowledge and school readiness are tightly connected to the topic and explained in this research. Recent and former legislative requirements concerning the beginning of one's compulsory school attendance, school enrollment, and postponement of compulsory school attendance are mentioned. Following the theoretical part, the practical part of this thesis diagnoses school maturity. The Preliminary test of school maturity by Jaroslav Jirasek is described in detail, other often used diagnostically materials and publicly available publications with content being well usable for the diagnoses are also shortly introduced. Base don those publications a test for the diagnosis of school maturity was developed, and it was together with Jirasek's Preliminary test of school maturity used for testing school maturity with a research sample. This thesis deals with the issue of school readiness and procedures for the assessment. It focuses on achieving individual developmental areas for children before they enter school, the conduct of the assessment of maturity and option diagnostic tools. The objective of this work is to identify most vulnerable and high-risk areas for school children before entering school and the possibility of stimulation. It also presents the possibility of using screening tests and presentation of their results. The aim of this thesis is based on the utilization of available screening tests in a sample of children, including the latest diagnostic tools maters, the practical part of the work and the conclusions of this thesis, which dealt with the appropriate options stimulation attenuated developmental areas.
