Luba and Rudolf Pellar: Translations from English
Gillová, Lucie ; Beran, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Jindra, Miroslav (referee)
The history of translation is a very important part of literature and to study it is crucial for many reasons. New translators always continue in some already existing tradition which is therefore important to study, analyze and also to learn from. This bachelor thesis deals with the translations from English by Luba and Rudolf Pellar who were translating for almost fifty years. Because their life experience can influence their work, the first part of this thesis deals with their lives and also summarizes some selected translations. The second part of this work is the analysis of selected translations. However, first of all, the translations of titles of the particular texts are analyzed because even they can tell a lot about the method of a translator. Consequently, the three selected texts- The Catcher in the Rye (Kdo chytá v žitě) by J.D. Salinger, Across the River and into the Trees (Přes řeku do stínu stromů) by Ernest Hemingway and American Pastoral (Americká Idyla) by Philip Roth- are analyzed in detail. These texts were selected because they represent equally the whole career of Pellar and the development of the method of translation can be observed in them. Moreover, the novel by Hemingway had been already published earlier and this translation is used for a comparison of two different...

History of literary translations from Romanian to Czech
Šeflová, Kateřina ; Valentová, Libuše (advisor) ; Vajdová, Libuša (referee)
This thesis deals with Czech translations from Romanian with emphasis on the translatological aspect of the topic. The theoretical part analyzes a list of translations created by the combination of a number of sources according to the original authors, the publishers of the translations, the year of publication of the Czech translation and the translators. The theoretical part also includes the outline of the development of Czech translation theories and a brief summary of modern directions in translatology. The practical part shows, using an analysis of the Czech translation of Țiganiada (Gypsiliad) by Ion Budai-Deleanu, how should look the analysis of the translation before the translator starts translating, or during his work. This part includes a practical analysis model with a division into individual segments. Each segment includes examples of potential problems and suggests a way to deal with them from a theoretical point of view.

Jaroslav Vrchlickýs Translations from the French and Italy Literature.
VICIÁNOVÁ, Klára
In my master's thesis I inquire into Jaroslav Vrchlický's translation of French poetry. In five chapters I analyse Vrchlický's translations of the poems by the Parnasists José-Maria de Heredia, Sully Prudhomme, Leconte de Lisle and François Coppée; the fifth is the romantic author Victor Hugo. The analyses are preceded by a bibliographic-descriptive part, an overview of Vrchlický's studies related to the poet in question and reception of Vrchlický's translations in contemporary periodicals. The summarizing chapters describe Vrchlický's translation method and the relationship of F. X. Šalda as the leading figure of contemporary literary criticism to Jaroslav Vrchlický. A substantial part of the work is a bibliographical index of Vrchlický's translations of French poetry published in books and journals as well as a list of his critical studies. As information source we have used the digitalized card catalogue Retrobi available online at the website of the Institute of Czech Literature, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
