Alternative nutritional guidelines and their risks
Ciprová, Markéta ; Vysoká, Lenka (advisor) ; Chrpová, Diana (referee)
Basis: This bachelor's thesis explores the alternative diet known as raw veganism. Information has been drawn from 23 literary and 27 internet sources. Considering the contemporaneity of the subject, many of these sources are of foreign origin. The theme was selected based on a long-term interest and self-study of the positive and negative effects of radical diets. Aims: Based on information gained from bibliographical sources, the aims of this bachelor's thesis were set as follows. The first goal was to uncover the most frequent reasons why people choose such a radical lifestyle, and by means of literary research to assess potential health risks. A preliminary hypothesis stated that the most frequent arguments would be health-related. A secondary goal was the comparison of raw veganism to orthorexia, which can be described as a pathological obsession with healthy food. The output and resulting arguments of the thesis are intended to aid colleagues in medicine. Methodology: Required data was gathered by means of an electronic survey. The questionnaire, consisting of 20 required and one optional question, was made available only to a specific sample of people who had in the past followed or were still following a partial or complete raw vegan diet, and were at least 18 years of age. Defence of doctors and practitioners applying traditional Chinese medicine and how they deal with the criticism from their conventional colleagues
Gutwirtová, Aneta ; Lucký, Jozef (advisor) ; Drábková, Hana (referee)
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been common practice for many years, and part of the treatment plan of several million patients in the world. This includes areas such as Great Britain, USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland and China. However, its possibilities in the territory of the Czech Republic are limited and insufficiently mapped (the area of practicing TCM for non-medical education practitioners). The thesis analyzes the current situation of doctors and practitioners applying TCM in the territory of the Czech Republic compared to other countries where TCM has been successfully established within the health system for many years. It also aims to find out how doctors and practitioners advocate their focus, what reasons they present for treatment with the TCM and how they deal with the criticism of their colleagues from the West. The work will include findings on why conventional physicians are heading towards Eastern medicine. Due to the debate of the topic, the thesis will continue to deal with the legislative anchoring of TCM in the laws of the Czech Republic and the world. The theoretical part of the thesis presents basic concepts related to the history and philosophy of the TCM. It also describes methods of diagnostics, treatment and pillars that the TCM supports...
Hirudotherapy and its effect on human health
TONDLOVÁ, Andrea
Hirudotherapy is one of the alternative methods that is nowadays being experienced again. It is a very old method that was used in the Middle Ages, when healers placed a leech on the wound. The European medicinal leeche is used because its saliva contains many bioactive substances that help with vascular diseases, affect stomach secretion, and break down blood clots. Among other things, saliva of this leech has antibacterial, antibiotic and anticoagulant effects. The main aim of this thesis was to increase the awareness of people about hirudotherapy and its beneficial influence on the human organism. From this main goal, we set four other objectives, namely to map the opinions of respondents on hirudotherapy, then to map the effect of hirudotherapy on the health of respondents. The third one was to find out what information is required by respondents undergoing hirudotherapy and find out what knowledge and skills a nurse must have as a hirudotherapy therapist. The first part of the diploma thesis is theoretical, where we focus on definitions of individual terms, i.e. hirudotherapy, alternative medicine, etc. The latest news in this area are added in the individual chapters. In the research part of the thesis we evaluate the interviews conducted with the patients who have undergone hirudotherapy. The work is supplemented by individual case reports of patients and photographic documentation of each case. In addition, we are attempting to summarize the latest findings and trends in hirudotherapy with the intention of motivating the reader to believe that real scientific progress is taking place in this area, from which a positive shift in hirudotherapy can be derived in the future. The research part of the thesis was realized on the basis of a qualitative survey. Data was obtained through semi-structured interviews. Interviews with patients were conducted in three stages. In the first stage, we interviewed patients before hirudotherapy. The second stage was focused on interviews with patients during hirudotherapy, where we asked about the patient's concerns and feelings and informed about regimens after therapy. At the last stage after the end of the application, we evaluated the effect of hirudotherapy on the organism, whether the problem had improved and if so, whether to continue in hirudotherapy. The results of the survey show that in most cases, hirudotherapy patients were positively affected. Each patient experienced some improvement in health. If the problem had not been solved with hirudotherapy, we managed to improve something else in these patients. Surprisingly, most patients were actively seeking information about this issue before completing hirudotherapy. The results of this thesis point to the fact that hirudotherapy is largely unknown to most of the population. Most of the participating patients learned about hirudotherapy from us. For example, many of them thought that the leech only sucked blood and did not know its main function. Another important finding was that hirudotherapy should be performed by an experienced hirudotherapy therapist, in the best case a trained medical practitioner. In case of allergic reactions to hirudotherapy and high bleeding, various complications could be avoided.

Humpálová, Marie ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Kordulová, Pavla (referee)
Bachelor thesis deals with alternative medicine, their positive and negative ones. The thesis has two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is based on the description of selected alternative treatments - acupressure, acupuncture, phytotherapy, biotherapy, psychotronics, homeopathy, chiropractic, aromatherapy, chiropractic and phototherapy. In recent years, we have heard more about alternative medicine and it is becoming more and more popular. The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze the opinions of the lay public on alternative medicine. Partial goal # 1 is to map out whether individual types of alternative medicine are in the public eye. Another objective, ie goal 2, is to map out whether alternative medicine is being used, or what methods and the difficulties (determining the treatment phase). A non-standardized questionnaire was selected for the elaboration of the individual objectives, which was applied through the website www.vyplto.cz. The most prominent position in respondents' awareness of alternative medicine is acupressure. The most applied was homeopathy. The most common...

Medico ergo sum. Construction of symbolic inequalities and boundaries between physicians and healers /and their professional identity
Dostálová, Lenka ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with the relationship and more specifically with the boundaries and inequalities between scientific medicine and alternative medicine from the constructionistic and interactionistic point of view. It explores how the boundaries are constructed by the representatives of biomedicine on one side and the representatives of alternative medicine on the other side. This thesis is based on a qualitative research - semi-standardised interviews with members of both systems of medicine. The state and the role of alternative medicine in czech setting is presented to the reader and the construction of boundaries in this context is explored. The thesis shows that the representatives of biomedicine build boundaries mainly based on moral aspects, while the representatives of alternative medicine have larger and more varied repertoire of boundaries. The fact is probably given by structural conditions and the role of alternative medicine - while the representatives of biomedicine "only" want to maintain the status quo, the representatives of alternative medicine struggle to change their situation, which requires bigger effort.
