Comparison of the communication of the Czech government's anti-pandemic measures in the Czech Television and the daily Blesk

This thesis analyses the communication of two major Czech media during the health crisis - the covid-19 pandemic. The thesis focuses on the first wave of the pandemic and through a comparative analysis examines the content of the public television broadcaster- Czech Television and the tabloid Blesk. The aim of the thesis is to find out how these two different media outlets presented key messages concerning anti-pandemic measures, and especially how they framed the messages. The theoretical part draws on the literature on media communication and briefly defines related concepts such as media function, construction of reality in the media, agenda setting and framing, then describes the differences between tabloid and news coverage and introduces the media studied. The thematic focus of the research follows the communication of the media in an unprecedented situation; therefore, the thesis further focuses on the role of the media in times of crisis, focusing on the extraordinary situation of the covid- 19 pandemic. Theoretical part is dedicated to the language devices typical for journalism, special attention is paid to non-marked and marked expressions. Tabloid as a new medial phenomenom in postcomunist countries

Diploma thesis "Tabloid media as a new media phenomenon in post communist countries" deals with the tabloid media in comparison with serious media in post communist countries (examples: Poland and Czech Republic). My diploma thesis looks to the tabloid media as a new phenomenon which appeared in this area after the fall of communism. Diploma thesis searches for a historical and social background of the tabloid media with special regard to the middle European region. I chose Czech Republic and Poland as a examples of this region on which I can demonstrate how tabloid media born and developed and how is their situation on the print media market in both countries. First part of every country chapter starts with the historical and social background, which goes from early 18th century until these days. Second part is analytical. This part analysis data of readership and circulation in both countries to find out how is the real position nowadays of main tabloid media on the print media market in both countries. Negative impacts of media fame

The main topic of the work is how Czech media inform about psychological problems of celebrities such as depression, manic depressive psychosis, addictive behavior, or suicide, and tries to answer the question of how much the media fame can affect these issues. The theoretical part summarizes concepts from media studies for better understanding media behaviors, for example media news selections process, concept of news values, the role of media in today's society and the difference between tabloid and serious media. From the psychological point of view, work summarizes the preconditions of psychological problems and their manifestations. It also provides brief pieces of information from official sources about lives and careers of selected celebrities. The second part of thesis is about analyzing the data, it means articles that informed about selected celebrities in connection with their psychological problems. The practical part is about finding there some common features and tendencies in media informing and also about showing differences between the ways of how tabloid and serious media present news. Changes of daily Sport through 1999-2006

The graduation theses "Changes of daily Sport through 1999-2006" treats of changes, which this only published sport newspapers in the Czech republic, had to go through after it became the part of the Ringier publishing company in 2002 (till 2002 the publisher of the magazine Sport was the Czechoslovakian sport company). Ringier publishing, which also publishes the tabloid newspapers Blesk, has completely changed the concept of the Sport, graphics and even the personal constitution of the editor's office. Zbyšek Pechr, the exvice general editor of the tabloid newspapers, has become the general editor. Since 2002 you can see elements of infotainment, which means transparency between the informational and entertainment functions. This graduation thesis also covers the position of the Sport compare to other competitors on the czech media market, the internet version of the Sport, the Sunday Sport papers and the Friday Magazine.
Portrayal of the "Megxit" case in the British media

The British Royal Family is a traditional institution that has a significant influence on social and political events in the United Kingdom. That is why the scandals of its members are closely monitored by the media. This Bachelor thesis describes the media image of one of the biggest scandals involving the British royal family of today in selected British online newspapers of different orientation. The term 'Megxit' has been adopted for this decision of Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan. The paper briefly defines the selected media, terms and introduces the main parties involved in the case. In the research part, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis, it discusses the manner and intensity with which the scandal was covered in the selected mainstream media in comparison with the official information provided by spokespeople of the members of the British Royal Family in the first two weeks after the first press release informing the public of the couple's decision to leave the institution. The emotional tone of published articles and adherence to the IPSO Editors' Code of Practice are also observed.
Specifies of the process of creation media celebrity in tabloid media

This thesis deals with process of creating an artificial celebrity in Czech media context. It demonstrates that it is possible to make an unknown person famous and to become a celebrity who attracts media attention. First two chapters define a celebrity as an institution, its primary social functions and also its origin and creation. Third chapter describes Czech tabloid media market and its changes in last few years. Furthermore, it explains reasons why there is need for new celebrities. Forth chapter analyses in detail conditions that lead to creation of new artificial celebrity. Moreover, it defines a process of such creation and routines used by Czech media to cover celebrities. Last chapter shows a case of Ornella Štiková who was not even publicly known before she became a celebrity. After becoming celebrity, she attracted attention of all main Czech tabloid media. This media interest lasted (including short falls) almost for two years. Such a period is longer than average. As a part of this thesis, the author made a series of interviews with media experts, significant tabloid media professionals and insiders of Czech showbyznys. Political tabloid press on examples of titles "Na vlastní oči Praha 10" and "Na vlastní oči"

The main goal of this diploma thesis was to find patterns on the pages of Na vlastní oči (With One's Own Eyes) title that define gutter press in its specific form of political tabloid. The analysis was concerned with the time period from 2016 to 2019 during which the said title was published in total of four waves each of which related to the relevant pre-election campaign. The Na vlastní oči title was initially published anonymously and only later Jan Čížek, publisher of the regional town-hall newspaper and a Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) candidate, claimed to be the publisher. SPD subsequently became the final sponsor of the newspaper. In the first wave of publishing activity, the authors of the title focused on a disparaging campaign against the then-candidate for the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Parliament and, in a broader context, against the whole opposition within the City Council of the Prague 10 City Ward. In its later publications, the newspaper dealt mostly with topics aimed at spreading fear of an unspecified danger associated with the refugee crisis and concerns about the unknown in the form of the Islamic Religion which was always associated with the threat of terrorism. Obesity and fat shaming in media on the example Patricie Solaříková and Super.cz

The adoration of thinness and the cult of perfect body has been an issue for many decades; with substantial contributions of the mass media and the press. As consequence, the phenomena of fat-shaming and fat-glorification become prominent, either by denouncing obesity and humiliating the overweight, or by worshipping the obese and elevating their status above the slender people. The theoretical part of the thesis aims to introduce the first phenomenon, which condemns the corpulent population disregarding their state of health and other aspects of life, capable of causing an unfounded weight increase, and to depict the approach of the media (tabloids in particular) towards the excess weight. The practical part of the thesis is concerned with analysing selected articles of a tabloid journal Super.cz, beginning with characterising its content, target audience and focus, and strives to reveal specific instances of fat-shaming on articles regarding the fluctuating weight of actress Patricie Solaříková between years 2013 and 2017.
