Web for Transcribing of Genealogical Sources
Sokolík, Jakub ; Šátek, Václav (referee) ; Rozman, Jaroslav (advisor)
The DEMoS system is developed to transcribe genealogical data into a web-based form and also provides the possibility to search this data. It currently supports the transcription and processing of 5 of the 8 historical sources. The aim of this work is to perform a thorough analysis of the whole system in order to identify missing and non-functional parts. We will then focus on correcting these deficiencies and filling in the missing parts to ensure that the system is able to fully function as originally designed. One of the main tasks is to complete the missing historical sources to be able to work with all 8 sources within the system. In addition, we will pay attention to the shortcomings in the user interface and work to address them. This includes optimizing usability and increasing the clarity of the system.
History Teaching about the Normalisation Era Using Czech Fiction Literature
Martinovský, Jan ; Pinkas, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
This Master thesis examines Czech literary fiction as a historical source, which can be used as a teaching instrument for understanding the normalisation era. In its theoretical part, the thesis summarizes contemporary Czech historical discourse about the normalisation era. It analyzes the influence of culture and memory on historical consciousness, and the goals and methods of contemporary history teaching. More specifically, it investigates how primary sources can be used in teaching and how cultural historical sources-and fiction literature in particular-can be analyzed. It utilizes constructivist teaching methods with the goal of achieving historical competence. It its practical part, the thesis describes five history lessons that apply findings from the theoretical part. In the lessons, pupils first have the opportunity to explore a wide range of sources, and consequently to research, analyze and interpret them. Later, they work with film excerpts, historical documents and literary fiction. In a final section, the thesis connects the theoretical and practical findings in a reflection of the history lessons.
The Image of Freedom in the Views of Historical Sources of Czech Society of Non-aristocratic Origin in the Revolutionary Year of 1848
Šiková, Olga ; Horský, Jan (advisor) ; Moravcová, Mirjam (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
Dissertation "The Image of Freedom in the Views of Historical Sources of Czech Society of Non-aristocratic Origin in the Revolutionary Year of 1848" The political tensions of the first half of the 19th century, a very stormy period from the political and social points of view, culminated in a significant revolutionary movement in 1848. Although Europe of the early 19th century was strongly influenced by the Enlightenment and ideals of the French Revolution, the Czech Lands were also subjected to long-term Napoleonic wars, which were followed by the conservatively oriented regime of Emperor Franz I. and his chancellor Prince Metternich. These developments profoundly influenced the mental worlds of people of non-aristocratic origin, even though this same social group still remembered the image of the enlightened "Peasant Emperor", Josef I., as well as the mottos of French Jacobins. Finally, this society gradually became acquainted with the liberal ideas then spreading from Western Europe. These liberal ideas encouraged this social group to fight for a juster social order and greater recognition for itself. Their ideas about freedom supported the reestablishment of society on new political, social and economic bases. The Revolutionary Year of 1848 brought fundamental changes and new ideological...

Hadaš, Jiří ; Woitschová, Klára (advisor) ; Jůn, Libor (referee)
Are many historical sources from which to draw the history of the National Museum. There are also a number of studies and monographs on the history of the National Museum, however, none of these works look at the media, audio or audiovisual, as a s historical source. The media could be a special source from which specific and authentic information on the National Museum can be drawn. Film records, as well as radio eithet television broadcasting bring a number of insights and complement the history of the National Museum. This study explores the role of the media as an information resource on the history of the National Museum, together with the identification of the limits of this source form. Based on historiographic procedures and methods known in the field of media science, quantitative and qualitative analysis has enabled the research of unique historical sources in the form of television and radio recordings, which brings insights into the National Museum. In the period under review, the genre variety was found, which mainly offered television and news programs, journalism, educational and entertainment programs. Through the valuable historical sources, these programs created a media image of the National Museum, which can be described as an image of an institution closely linked to national...

The thesis focuses on the digital library Kramerius, that provides electronic access to mainly Bohemian documents from 19th and 20th century. Its aim is not to describe all parts of this system and its hinterland - the thesis focuses rather on the user point of view. The Reflection of the Twilight of the British Empire in the Selected Works of the English Belles-Lettres
Banasinský, Vít ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
In the British Empire many revolutionary changes took place from the 1850s. In my thesis I focused on the analysis of those issues and phenomena which are sufficiently reflected in the English-language belles-lettres, along with a comparison of topics in a historical context in those thematic areas where the comparison is possible, but even in those where possibility of feedback is missing. Given the specificity of the whole work is an introduction and conclusion concerns the question of literary texts as a study of sources. The aim is to answer the question whether the use of belles-lettres as a source in this particular topic is possible, and if so, under what conditions.
