This thesis is focused on the analysis of three chosen civics textbooks for the 6th grade of primary school from the perspective of gender. The aim was to find out, using qualitative and quantitative content analysis, whether or not women and men are depicted in gender stereotyped roles and in what numbers they are represented. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is dedicated to explaining the concepts of sex and gender, gender socialisation, gender in the school environment and gender in language. The practical part is dedicated to the analysis of the textbooks. As a result of the analysis, it is found that in all textbooks women are significantly outnumbered by men. Education as a problem in Radim Palouš
Dytrych, Ondřej ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Pelcová, Naděžda (referee)
The main theme of the thesis is the reflection on the specific meaning of education in the philosophy of Radim Palouš. From this basic issue of the specificity of education as bringing to the understanding of the whole (order) world in Palouš we will further explicate the key motives. These motives include, first of all, the existence of man as a being de- responsible for the totality of the world and other people. Furthermore, the problem of the school as a specific temporal situation that transcends the everyday hustle and bustle (ascholia) and traffic, in short, qualia, and the schola as a freedom to oneself that develops in the capacity for dialogical encounter with oneself and with others. This basic ground will also be concretized in the historical dimension by connecting important thinkers for Palouš (especially Socrates, Comenius, Patočka).
Gender in Education: Focus on Civic Education
Volejníková, Lucie ; Dvořáková, Michaela (advisor) ; Ondráček, Vojtěch (referee)
The thesis "Gender in Schools with a Focus on Civic Education" deals with the issue of gender in the school environment. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on gender identity, gender stereotypes, gender equality, and the reproduction of gender roles in schools. Special attention is also paid to the personality of teachers and their role in gender reproduction. The significance of their attitudes is analyzed in the chapter on subjective theory. The main research questions I addressed were: What is the attitude of a specific civic education teacher towards the gender topic? How does the attitude of a civic education teacher towards gender issues manifest in civic education teaching and what impact does it have on students? Therefore, the empirical part of the thesis was focused on a case study of a beginning civic education teacher, which I explored through a research probe. To gain a deeper understanding of the research problem, I employed a combination of three methods, specifically semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and focus groups. Keywords: gender, gender stereotype, school, subjective theory, civic education
