There is a limited body of research about formal support for parents with intellectual disabilities in the context of the Czech Republic. As the process of deinstitutionalization continues, people with intellectual disabilities have more opportunities to make decisions about the ways they want to live in society and establish partner relationships. It is therefore appropriate to look at whether the available formal support adequately responds to the needs of families with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, the aim of this research was to analyze the existing system of formal support for parents with intellectual disabilities. The author also examined how social workers are prepared to work with this group of parents. Last but not least, the aim of this research study was to analyze the experience of parents with intellectual disabilities with formal support. Social participation is within this dissertation viewed from the perspective of independent execution of non-academic school activities that the pupils with cerebral palsy are performed daily in the school environment, which they need in order to be able to fulfill the academic obligations expected from them. In order to assess their participation in the school environment, the first and third part of the SFA questionnaire were used (The School Function Assessment), in order to measure pupils' participation in 6 situations within the school environment and 21 concrete non- academic school activities. 5 Abstract In a social and political climate that encourages active participation in the decision- making of people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities, with the aim of improving the quality of their lives, is often on educators, careers and legal custodians to represent the wishes and interests of those individuals. That's why it is important to focus on the interpretation of communication. On the one hand this doctoral thesis discusses the theoretical issues related to communication of people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities and its interpretation, but on the second hand it focuses on identifying and describing relevant communication characteristics based on practical qualitative research at special pedagogical center for mentally handicapped people in Rüdesheim am Rhein in Germany. The validity of the interpretation is rather continuous as a categorical variable and has to be supported by the systematic collection of evidences from different sources. This framework is compatible with the social constructivists' view of communication development and allows combining information derived from subjective, intuitive views with information obtained through observation and testing. Key words Communication, profound intellectual disabilities, development, relationship, verbal...

Zilcher, Ladislav ; Šiška, Jan (advisor) ; Vítková, Marie (referee) ; Hájková, Vanda (referee)
This dissertation is conceived as a theoretical - empirical study, which is focused on modifications in attitudes of fourth and fifth grade pupils towards people with disabilities. The research is based on three possible influences for attitudes, (1) the effect of classmate with disability on pupils' attitudes towards people with disability, (2) teacher's approach to the issue, their inclusive teaching competences and the effect on pupils' attitudes and (3) if school and its inclusive setting (which is represented by schools with "Fair school" certificate) has any influence on pupils' attitudes towards persons with disabilities. We try to explain one elemental empirical question by dealing with these three particular research issues. Does inclusive environment have positive influence on fourth and fifth grade pupils towards people with disabilities? We decided to choose a quasiexperimental design of this study to answer this question. Two validated empirical instruments were used in the research, they were administrated on a sample that consists of 1948 pupils from fourth and fifth grades and (their) 102 teachers. The acquired data were processed by appropriate statistical methods. Our outcomes partly confirmed the assumption that inclusive environment may have an impact on pupils' attitude towards...

The Significance of Diversity for Special Educational Thinking
Prouzová-Květoňová, Regina ; Titzl, Boris (advisor) ; Kysučan, Jaroslav (referee) ; Vítková, Marie (referee)
To elucidate the relation between human beings and diversity, to find the means for its integration, and to expose the attitudes that society has had and still has to diversity - this is the objective of this dissertation. Diversity, dissimilarity, these are general terms that cover persons with physical handicaps, social disadvantages, mental handicaps, as well as members of ethnic and religious minorities and people in extreme situations. The author's intent was to collect a large number of cases where diversity, thus broadly conceived, is perceived as an advantage or as a condition that one can come to terms with, with or without the assistance of others. Human society has treated and still treats otherness disapprovingly, with disdain or scorn. These interrelations, which are manifested across all culture and history, may be helpful to the professionals and the people on the other side - the disadvantaged. They can help them find a path to pursue and pass to an understanding of oneself in one's otherness and to understand others that have found themselves under the sway of otherness. The directions outlined in the individual chapters suggest different ways of facing differences. Each chapter makes a different contribution to a special branch of study, focusing on a specific area, and analysing...
