Program and Profile Change of the Slovak National Party in 2006-2016

This bachelor thesis deals with the activities of the Slovak National Party in politics from 2006- 2010 and how their political profile has changed over time. After introducing the theoretical attitudes, there will be briefly described the nature of the party, more precisely the ideological background, its electorate and the history of the party from 1989 up until 2006 and the emphasis of the most crucial moments in during period. Subsequently, the work focuses on the evolution of the SNP in particular parliamentary terms, whereas the emphasis is put on the causes of successes and failures in parliamentary elections. This topic is linked with the question of fluctuation, which caused the fall in votes of numbers of votes for the SNP in certain cases. Within analyzed parliamentary terms, all attention focused on the beginning of the 2016-2020 parliamentary term, because the parliamentary election in 2016 started a fundamental change for the party. After being an out-parliamentary party for four years, the party again gained its seat in the parliament with a seemingly high percentage of votes. Polish Party System 1989-2016: A Case of Polarization

Polish Party System 1989-2016: A Case of Polarization Abstract The dissertation thesis analyses the Polish party system focusing particularly on the issues of polarization and anti-communism. The analysis is partially carried out in comparative perspective, especially in exploring anti-communism. Throughout the post-transition period, Poland has been displaying high levels of polarization, without any substantial link to the fragmentation of the party system. Seeking the sources of the polarizing tensions, the thesis has identified the construction of language of politics, as well as historicising and identity- based understanding of political divisions in Poland. The thesis specially focuses on the issue of anti-communism, as a key factor in creating and launching various polarizing impulses. The periodization of the Polish party system developments, as well as its categorization as a case of Satori's polarized pluralism is also proposed in the text. Higher Territorial Self-Governing Units in the Czech Republic and Slovakia

This dissertation thesis deals with the establishment and practical functioning of the higher territorial self-governing units in the Czech Republic and in the Slovak Republic. It contains information on the development of the territorial division of former Czechoslovakia between the years 1918 and 1993, with an emphasis on the establishment of a regional system during the communist regime. The dissertation is focused on the process of the establishment of regional level of self-government in the Czech and Slovak Republic in 1990s. Debates over the most appropriate territorial and administrative division took place in parliaments of both countries after 1993. Two models of territorial division were considered in the Czech Republic - a provincial system, based on historical lands, and a regional system. Two alternatives were discussed in Slovakia - a county system and regional system. The territory of the Czech Republic was ultimately divided into 14 higher territorial self-governing units (13 regions and the Capital City of Prague), and the territory of Slovakia into 8 regions. National Party

The National Party was active in the Czech politics roughly from 2000 to 2009.Despite the fact that the party had great political ambitions, it did not make any major electoral gains. The National Party is described in detail in chapters devoted to the formation of the National Party, its political agenda, ideological classification, to individuals and organizations participating in the establishment of the National Party, its political marketing, and the results of the National Party in the elections and international cooperation. The thesis addresses the following research questions: Why was the party unsuccessful? Concerning political marketing, were the selected communication channels adequate and was the way the party communicated correct? and Is there demand for a similar party in the Czech Republic at the moment?. We will answer the questions raised by applying a theoretical framework based on Cas Mudde's publication Populist Radical Right Parties in Europe and Alina Polyakova's study Explaining Support for Radical Right Parties in New Democracies: The Limits of Structural Determinants and the Potentiality of Civil Society, and also by conducting a survey which will research citizens' stands on various political issues.

Slovak Political Parties in the First Czechoslovak Republic : Analysis of the Program Goals

The bachelor thesis deals with political parties, which operated in the Slovak during the first Czechoslovak Republic. The aim is to analyze the political programs of the parties, namely the programs of Republikánská strana zemědělského a malorolnického lidu, Československá sociálně-demokratická strana dělnická, Komunistická strana Československá, Hlinkova slovenská ľudová strana and Slovenská národná strana. I'm going to analyze how particular requirements, which relate to Slovakia, modified over time, disappeared and appeared in connection with the historical context. I am going to apply the discourse analysis as a research method. I am going to use formal political programs, historical documents as secondary sources and other publications dedicated to this historical period. The main research question will primarily concerned with issues of institutional organizations, competences, government structures, Czechoslovakism or autonomous requirements. I will search for all terms related to these topics in political programs. I will be interested in issues relating to the Slovak question. I will focus on the differences between Slovak and countrywide's political parties. The data will be evaluated and compared to each other in the conclusion.

Context of agenda-setting in the context of Czech media studies

This dissertation thesis follows from a wide stream of considerations of the relationship between the mass media, public and politics; in particular detail, it deals with a specific concept which attempts to grasp, model and empirically examine this relationship. The main goals of the thesis can be in short divided into two interrelated areas. The first aim is to introduce the concept of agenda setting to the Czech academic environment, with its theoretical, terminological and research frame for an analysis of relationships between the mass media content, dynamics of public opinion, and the political sphere. The second aim is to analyze how agenda setting processes are theoretically grounded and studied in the Czech social studies. The theoretical part of the thesis is structured according to two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic. In the diachronic perspective, I try to grasp the social context and historical origins of agenda-setting as a concept, its development, main trends, and developmental lines. This way, I move forward to the synchronic perspective and describe academic grounding of agenda-setting; I give a detailed analysis of the present level of the agenda-setting research and the main research areas through available classifications. Imperial Presidency in the United States

The subject of this thesis is the Imperial Presidency. Arthur Schlesinger is the author of this term in the realm of Political Science. His book was a reaction to the gradual accretion of political power in the office of the President of the United States. Imperial Presidency is described by variables: a) The President overreaches his powers given to him by the Constitution of the USA; b) The President is not limited by other branches of power. The theories behind this thesis are called the unilateral action theory and the unitary presidency theory. After designating variables in the thesis we should be able to answer the question: "What kind of political behaviour describes imperial presidency?"

Czechoslovakia in 1960s from the point of view of theory of non-democratic regimes

Abstract The Master thesis Czechoslovakia in 1960s from the point of view of theory non- democratic regimes deals with the analysis of political, economic and social development, especially with the so-called Prague Spring of 1968. The 1968 reform was an attempt to transform the Czechoslovak communist regime. The aim was to transform Czechoslovakia into a modern industrial society, break free from the total subordination to the Soviet Union, yet with the leading role of the Communist Party. For this reason, the year 1968 holds an important position in our post-war history. The thesis is divided into two main parts and seven chapters. The first part is devoted to non-democratic theories, particularly to totalitarianism and authoritarianism. The second part describes the events in the communist Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1960. And subsequently, the remaining part is devoted to the main topic of the thesis, to Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. The aim of my thesis was to describe the situation in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s, identify the causes and consequences of the so-called Prague Spring of 1968 and try to match Czechoslovakia to a certain type of non-democratic regime in the 1960s and thus determine where Czechoslovakia was on the imaginary scale from totalitarianism to democracy in this period.

Party SMER-SD and its Position in the Slovak Party System

The aim of this thesis is to place Slovak political party SMER in the political and party system of the Slovak Republic and attempt to analyse ideological and programmatic development of this party. The author devotes attention to development of SMER from the emergence in 1999 until last general elections in 2012. First chapter seeks to describe evolution of socialism and following ideologies including the concept of the Third way which was reflected by some Western European social democratic parties. The second chapter is dedicated to left-wing political parties in Czechoslovakia and lately in Slovak Republic. This chapter is divided into two sections. The first section is about parties existing before 1989 and the second one devotes attention to parties after Velvet Revolution in 1989. Next part of this work is focused on the SMER itself. Author describes three phases of development of this party including emergence in 1999, opposition activities between 2002 and 2006 and phase of hegemony following after 2006. The purpose of the last part of the thesis is to analyse ideological and programmatic development of SMER and highlight some problematic features of proclaimed social democratic orientation.
