Music and personality
Zamastilová, Hana ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor) ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee)
The goal of this work is: (a) to present knowledge of the foreign researches on personality of musicians in the arranged form in Czech language, (b) to realize the research carried out in the past under different cultural conditions in modified form in our country, (c) mutually compare the result of this research and the foreign researches, (d) to summarize the conclusions and to establish questions for the further investigation. Artists and other creative individuals evince specific personality characteristics differentiating them from the other people. Among these individuals are also artists in the field of classical music. This work yields a basic information about the difference of the specific personality characteristics of musicians and people who are not involved in music. It sums up existing knowledge on this topic and it creates internally consistent profile of an artist in the field of classical music. In the quantitative research we aim to compare population of conservatory students (n = 57) with the control group - students of grammar school (n = 49). Data of their personality characteristics were obtained with help of Cattel's personality questionnaire 16 PF. Discriminant analysis pointed to differences in five primary factors and one secondary factor of 16 PF. Conservatory students...

Description of personal relationship towards nature: introduction to theory and terminology
Krajhanzl, Jan ; Šulová, Lenka (advisor) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee) ; Činčera, Jan (referee)
In the last forty years interdisciplinary interest in environmental behaviour has grown together with broad attention aimed to environmental conditions. Normative research in the field has developed hand in hand with environmental education, whereas descriptive research, which deals with description patterns of human experience and behaviour, has been overshadowed. This imbalance has influenced the current practice: despite the variety of techniques and theories concerning support of proenvironmental behaviour, the knowledge of human experience and behaviour in environmentally-relevant situations remains rather limited. Similar imbalance exists in the terminology. The presented thesis mainly deals with the descriptive study of experience and behaviour towards nature with special interest in the so-called relationship toward nature. We present definitions of environmental behaviour and proenvironmental behaviour in introductory chapters and examine, which groups of factors influence environmental behaviour. Relationship toward nature represents one group of these factors. We cover overview of the concepts, which are associated with description of relationships toward nature, and distinguish between one-dimensional approach (concepts of alienation human towards nature, biophilia hypothesis and environmental...
Traumatizing impact of child sexual abuse
Dušková, Zora ; Junková, Vendula (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
Sexual abuse of children presents a serious sociopathological phenomenon and one of the most serious forms of harming children. The issue of sexual abuse of children has been accompanying a mankind for centuries and it can be viewed from many angles. Sexual abuse, particularly in its intrafamilial form, has an essential and often very traumatic impact on children. The impact on children's current state, on their overall development and thus the quality of their future life. Despite that, from this perspective, there hasn't been always devoted enough attention to this issue yet. Traumatized children react to abuse with great individual variability; picture of the consequences is very fregmented, the symptoms are rather nonspecific, and that also significantly hampers the detection of vulnerable children. We cannot effectively enough to protect children against these risks without good information about who are the abusers of children and for what reason the sexual offending is going on. Intrafamilial sexual abuse is a complex, multifactorial phenomenon, in which creation, development and maintenance is involved not only the abuser, but the structure and dynamics of the family system might play its role too. Proper understanding of these relationships is a necessary condition to start a child's protection...
The creation of the PFT (C-W) users manual
Čáp, David ; Šípek, Jiří (referee) ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee)
The Rosenzweig Picture Frustration Study for adults has never had any created norms in terms of Czech population. Since the time of creation its graphical stimulus material became old and nearly unusable. The purpose of this text is to show the method P-F Study to the readers and than to introduce new graphical material, the emergent norms and new user's manual. Validity and reliability of the new version PFT (C-W) was examined on the sample of 30 students in age from 14 to 16 years. The standardisation was realized on the sample of 100 students in age from 14 to 17 years. The new norms were created for categories, S-E patterns and GCR. Also the scoring and compilation of the scoring blank was adapted. Key words: aggression, frustration, projective method, Rosenzweig P-F Study, user's manual
Factors afecting compliance and adherence to treatment in patients with HIV
Braun, Richard ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor) ; Procházka, Ivo (referee) ; Štech, Stanislav (referee)
The thesis examines factors that influence, directly or indirectly, the adherence and compliance to treatment among HIV/AIDS patients. HAART ensures long-term therapeutic effects and high quality of life, as long as the patients comply with the recommendations of their physicians and adhere to the prescribed medication regimens. In case of suboptimal adherence, the patients are under risk of developing resistance to the particular medication or even an entire class of ARV drugs. Still, there is a substantial number of patients who fail to adhere and to take their medication consistently, risking thereby not only drug resistance but a severe deterioration in their health status as well. The thesis uses qualitative methodology to explore both barriers and facilitators of adherence among HIV/AIDS patients in the Czech Republic. Such a research on Czech population has not been carried out as yet. The results are compared with the outcomes of foreign studies. Mills meta-analysis (2006) of 84 published research papers dealing with the subject of adherence among HIV/AIDS patients served as the basis for comparison. Key words: adherence, compliance, HAART, resistence, barriers to adherence, facilitators to adherence

Mindfulness and mindfulness-based treatment approaches
Žitník, Jiří ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
Theoretical section focuses on the concept of mindfulness, its historical background, variety of theoretical approaches and definitions of mindfulness. On this basis I provide own definition of mindfulness. Then, I present an overview of the features and characteristics of mindfulness, its applications in clinical environment, mindfulness-based approaches, effective therapeutic factors, and also its use with specific mental disorders. I also address neural correlates of mindfulness, developmental aspects of mindfulness and overview of measurement methods. Empirical section consists of standardization of Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire for the Czech population and verification of its factor model. Further I monitored the relation of mindfulness to chosen demographic variables. Results showed modestly significant correlation with age and education, and independence of sex and overall mindfulness score. In four subscales of the questionnaire, however, sexes differed. The hypothesis that mindfulness is related to profession was also confirmed. Highest mindfulness scores were reached by helping professions, especially psychotherapists, lowest scores were reached by technical professions. Next, results confirmed the hypothesis about relation between mindfulness and life satisfaction (cognitive...
Dream reflection of mental illness ...from the point of view of daseinsanalysis
Pavlovský, Pavel ; Junková, Vendula (advisor) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
This paper presents 12 individual case studies representing three different psychiatric diagnoses: depression, schizophrenia, and phobia. The collected data suggests that aspects of each one of the disorders covered are somehow reflected in the dreams and dream existence of the patients. Based on repeated in-depth interviews (n=48) with each of the participants (n=12), it is clear that dream content often repeats in each individual. Further phenomenological and qualitative content analysis revealed repetition of characteristic dream content (feelings, phenomenon, and existentials) in each of the three groups. While more research is needed, the results suggest dream content could be a significant tool in establishing a diagnosis and in aiding the psycho-therapeutic process.
