Commented translation:Introductory: Language Defined (E.Sapir: Language: An Introductionto the Study of Speech, 1921)

The thesis consists of a Czech translation of the first chapter, Introductory: Language Defined, from Language: An Introduction to the Study of Speech (New York: 1921, Harcourt, Brace and Company) by Edward Sapir and of a commentary on the translation. The commentary consists of a translation analysis of the source text, typology of translation problems and their solutions, and typology of translation shifts. The translation method was chosen based on the analysis, which was based on the method of Ch. Nord. The main objective of the translation was to preserve the informative function of the source text and it's style with regard to the documentary function of the translation and the conventions and constraints of the target language.

This bachelor thesis consists of a translation of a German text into Czech and an expert commentary on the translation. The translated text is a popular research paper entitled "Grimmsche Märchenfiguren und Archetypen in der Werbung". The expert commentary deals with four areas: translation analysis, translation methods, typology of translation problems and shifts of expression in translation. The aim of the commentary is to acquaint readers with translation procedures and methods, to reflect problematic passages in the text and to find a feasible translation solution drawing on theoretical knowledge. The core of the bachelor's thesis is a Czech translation of the article Native American Systems of Knowledge by C. S. Kidwell published in 2002 as a chapter of A Companion to American Indian History. The second part is constituted by the commentary of the translation including the original text analysis, description of the translation method, translation problems typology along with their solutions and typology of the translation shifts. The analysis uses the model of Ch. Nord and constitutes the basis for the translation method. The further chapters deal with lexical, syntactical and presuposition problems and describe shifts that occured during the process. The commentary includes conrete examples of solutions and shifts.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create a German-Czech translation and to complete it with a commentary. The translated text consists of selected chapters from the website www.daenemark-reiseguide.de, where tourist information about Denmark can be found. The first part of the commentary includes a translation analysis of the original text. Based on the analysis is deduced the translation method, which affects further translation process and the way of solving specific translation problems. Large part of the commentary describes lexicological problems, especially problems with translation of the geographical names and of the Danish life and institutions. The commentary is concluded by a chapter about thematic shifts.

Annotated translation: Do Women Pay for German Reunification?

The thesis focuses on translation of an extract of a dialogue from the book called Bezahlen die Frauen die Wiedervereinigung? and on commentary on this translation. Apart from the Introduction and Conclusion there are two parts that play central role: the Translation itself and the above mentioned Commentary. The Commentary consists of four chapters. Translation Analysis of the Original Text Based on Ch. Nord's Model describes extratextual and intratextual factors of the original text. Features of the Original Text and First Insights into Problems of Translation takes functional-structuralist approach, describing different levels of the language used, focuses on tricky parts in the translation and thus links the analysis of the original with the translation. Method of Translation sets strategy for the translation of the original, based on conclusions of the two previous chapters. Typology of Translation Solutions and Unavoidable Shifts - Concrete Examples puts the method into practice, gives examples and comments on problems.

Commented translation: Media and communication in the early modern period

This bachelor thesis includes an annotated translation from the German language. The text was chosen from an internet server www.historicum.net. The text consists of some articles from the part Media and communication in the early modern period. Chapters Letter, Book market, Monument, Fashion and Newspapers are translated. The commentary contains four parts. The opening part consists of an analysis of the original text. The analysis contains two parts. The first part is an analysis of extratextual and the second part is an analysis of intratextual factors and describes the specific qualities of the source text. Another part is a typology of translation problems, describing linguistic and cultural non-equivalence and defending the translator's solutions. The third part is a typology of shifts occuring in the translation. The commentary is concluded by the description of the translation method.

The work consists of two parts, translation and its commentary. It is a translation of a French breeders guide Bien vivre avec son chat - the chapter about feeding and the first part of the chapter about cats hygiene and care. I preserved the main function of the original text in the translation - to provide information to the recipient, to give them useful knowledge and advice. In the second part of the work, I reflect the problems of the translating process. First, I characterise in detail the original text, regarding both extratextual and intratextual factors. Then I focus on individual translation problems and create the typology of the problems. At the end of the work I summarize the methods used in the translation.
