Stepanyuk, Viktoria ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
This thesis deals with the People's Movement of Ukraine (Narodnyi rukh Ukrainy) in 1990-1998. This phenomenon is closely related to the problem of the Soviet Union demise, the anti-Communist movements, free elections, and emergence of a multiparty system in Ukraine. The first part of the thesis starts with a short introduction and review of literature. Then the author proceeds to the description of socio-political and economic situation in Ukraine during the last decades of the Soviet system and to the beginning of the People's Movement. The Movement was launched by a number of members of the intelligentsia previously imprisoned in the 1980s. The thesis focuses on the movement's ideology which was considered too nationalistic by many critics. Hence, a brief introduction to the history of Ukrainian nationalism is provided. The second part of the thesis analyzes the early success of the People's Movement following the 1990 parliamentary elections. Further, the author discusses transformation of the People's movement into a political party. The thesis identifies main factors that contributed to the crisis and, later on, to the break up of the People's Movement political party. The role of the Movement in Ukrainian politics is elaborated in subsequent chapters. The thesis also provides a brief overview of...

Analysis of Czech exports to markets outside the EU
Vinter, Michal ; Gráf, Václav (advisor) ; Urban, Luděk (referee)
Throughout the transformation process during 1990's has the Czech Republic undergo many important changes. One of these was the temporary abandonment of Eastern European markets and the rapid growth in export share of EU markets. With the passing of time, however, the interest of Czech exporters turned once again towards the emerging markets. This paper presents a theoretical framework that affect trade between the Czech Republic and non-EU countries and uses analytical tools to estimate their specific manifestations in czech exports. Used concept of macroeconomic competitiveness and gravity model of international trade shows that price competitiveness of czech exports still provides the relative advantage, but on the other is the potential of exports bound by the quality of institutions. The model show that the specific demand factors used in this study eg. the impact of historical business partnerships and the degree of development of importing countries are significant. When comparing the actual export values with the values predicted by model, we observe that, on average, Czech exports to the analyzed countries is above its potential.

NGOs in the cultural life of town Louny
Pelc, Martin ; Žák, Josef (advisor) ; Matějů, Martin (referee)
This paper focuses on a niche of local culture represented by non-governmental non-profit organisations (associations). The objective is to identify and analyse their part in the cultural life of the city during the 20 th century on the basis of theoretical assumptions. The backbone of the paper is the finding of how the transformations of the structure and role of association life influenced the social and mainly the cultural life of the town Louny. I attempted to identify, track, and interpret this phenomenon wi thin the various periods of time between 1918 and 2000. I chose this time span intentionally, for within this relatively short time frame, our country underwent several politically, economically, socially, and culturally distinct periods. My scope of interest covers the period between the World Wars marked with very intensive association life, the role of associations during the Protectorate period (Sokol, Junak), the conflicting developments between 1945 and 1968, the destruction of cultural life during the Normalisation period, and the renewed boom in the democratic society after 1989. Each period has its specificities and it is of interest to present the changes occurring in the local context, as the various entities are much more comprehensible on the local scale than if observed from a...

Němčík, Lukáš ; Duffková, Jana (advisor) ; Jandová, Dobroslava (referee)
Spa in the Czech Republic With a focus on spa Jeseník, Luhačovice, Třeboň and Františkovy Lázně As the subject of my work I chose the Czech Republic spa. I look at the spa environment as a social phenomenon that affects many areas of social life and has a great tradition in Czech culture. With its unique atmosphere and the composition of the clients who visit them, they are more than just popular places by tourists or health facilities but they have also influence on the life of the living there and spa visitors. The work is intended to serve as a general base that could be suitable for further exploration of this area, and therefore tries to cover as many areas of the issue as possible. I try to work with examples from history to point out the role of the spa in the past and how they gradually transformed into what they are today. I also look at services that are offered at the spa and the structure of clients who come to the spa. My field of interest was also the formation of spa towns and life in them. This area is distinguished from others for a large number of changing spa clients. In my work I also did a probe between clients and employees of spa Jeseník, Luhačovice, Třeboň and Františkovy Lázně. With it, I was able to outline some of the differences between the various spas. Spas in the...

Minangkabau culture in the mirror of randai theatre plays
Pflegerová, Mariana ; Vrhel, František (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee) ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (referee)
The dissertation thesis is focused on the culture of the ethnic group Minangkabau, whose home territory is situated in the present-day Indonesian province of West Sumatra, yet whose diaspora, reaching its highest density in the islands of Sumatra and Java, recently covers the whole of the Indonesian archipelago, overlapping to the neighbouring countries of Malaysia, Singapore, and beyond. In the thesis, Minangkabau culture is viewed through the looking glass of the Minang folk theatre randai, which traces its origins to the iniciation of young Minang males, yet which has with time transformed into an important means of symbolic expression of the Minang identity. Selected randai plays recorded by the author in their authentic social context are used to provide examples for the explanation of some of the key concepts that form the core of Minang culture, while socio-historical conditions are considered for the influence they have had upon the shaping of these concepts to their present form. Topics that are subject to explanation include the following: the social position and the key social roles performed by women in the context of a system of social organization based on the principals of matrilineal kinship, relative to the position and roles of men; basic principals of Minang ethnopsychology as source of...
