Educational policy towards Roma: an application of a theoretical approach social constructions of target populations on a problem of educating Roma pupils in the Czech schools

This diploma thesis deals with educational policy towards Roma pupils in the Czech Republic. This problem is explored on the basis of theoretical approach called social constructions of target populations. Educational policy towards Roma pupils has a provable negative character, because it segregates many Roma pupils from the educational mainstream and thus it prevents them from achieving an adequate level of education. On the opposite side of this "double-track" education system there is a concept of inclusive education, which is considered on the EU level as more effective and beneficial for the whole society. However, there is a polemic in the Czech society, both professional and non-professional, with respect to reforming the education system into more open and inclusive form. Despite of the fact that the concept of inclusive education has been formally accepted as a guideline of the Czech education system, it hasn't brought any real change so far, neither of the system itself, nor of the situation of Roma pupils in it. With an application of theoretical knowledge of the social constructions of target populations approach, this diploma thesis tries to understand a present image of the educational policy towards Roma pupils, in order to answer a question: why it has prevailing negative character...

Analysis of school catering

School catering is one form of public catering. People who work in sphere of school catering have to observe very strict rules of sanitary code and to follow conventions of rational nutrition. Nutritious food is important for young people and their growth. The experience with the school dining should be very useful for the child. He should learn how to intercommon and how to follow healthy lifestyle. In the last five years, fewer children eat school lunches in Czech Republic. This fact is caused by decrease of children in elementary schools. We used a questionnaire to analyze school dining in the elementary school FZŠ Barrandov II. The results were satisfying. Three-quarter of children from this school uses services of school dining and the major part is content with it. The analysis will be delivered immediately to the caterer. Hopefully, it will be used for improvement of the school kitchen services.

Status of Roma on the Labor Market

This thesis addresses the status of Roma in society, in the educational system and on the labour market. The central theme of the work is primarily the education of Roma children and their integration in the educational system. The thesis is focused on the integration of Roma children into education system and, by extension, into the majority society from an early age. At present some of them attend preparatory classes and nursery schools. This thesis is seeking ways to increase the participation of Roma children in preschool education and seeks alternative options for their inclusion.

Concept of health education in kindergarten This thesis deals with the concept of a healthy lifestyle for preschool children and of health education in nursery schools. The first part of this work is the definition of "health" and individual determinants of health such as lifestyle, environment and health. The thesis deals with the various components of health education in kindergarten, the movement of children in kindergarten, nutrition, inner comfort and overall environment of the nursery school in the context of the Framework Curriculum for preschool education. The subject of research of this thesis is two-stage evaluation process and questionnaire, which is presented to teachers of kindergartens.

Nutrition in the Adolescent and School Meal-Plans

Tématem diplomové práce je nutriční chování dospívajících a školní stravování. První část obsahuje hodnocení vlivu stravování na zdravotní stav dospívajících vzhledem ke způsobu stravování, jsou zde rozebrány jednotlivé složky potravy a jejich množství, které je potřebné pro příznivý vývoj dospívajícího. V další kapitole se zabývám tím, co to je školní stravování, jeho historií, zmiňuji se o školním stravování v cizích zemích a srovnávám ho se školním stravováním v České republice. V této kapitole je dále zahrnuta legislativa a její vývoj. V další kapitole rozebírám úlohu školy při zajištění stravovacího a pitného režimu žáků. Následující kapitola je věnována výzkumu s cílem zjistit, jak žáci vybraných základních škol využívají školní stavování a jaké k němu mají postoje. Analysis of schoolchildren´s catering in England

This Bachelor's thesis deals with school catering in England. It focuses on history of English food and it describes school catering and nutritional standards of school lunches in details. The aim of the thesis is to find out if the effort of schools which is make the lunches better has positive results and if school catering is improving and healthier for children. The way of providing school lunches and activities of schools are showed at two different schools.

Nutritional Habits of Preschool Children in Vysočina Region

Title: Nutritional Habits of Preschool Children in Vysočina Region Annotation: I focus on the issues of eating habits of preschool children in my diploma project. Nowadays, this topic is very current due to increasing overweight and obesity of children, already in preschool age. The aim of this work is to summarize the knowledge of preschool children healthy eating, to emphasize the importance of child nutrition, draw attention to mistakes inflicted in child nutrition, and also point to the nutrition recommendations in this age. The integral part of this work is the specification of external influences and risks to a child in this field. At the same time, I mention some issues related to nutrition and eating habits that currently worry parents. The aim of an exploratory survey was to map the level of dietary habits of preschool children in the Region Vysočina. Menu optimization for school cafeteria

This bachelor thesis deals with the application of mathematical programming in real data application. Specifically, it is nutritional problem that is defined in the environment of school cafeteria. The main topic is a compilation of the school menus. There are four menus that consist of twenty meals. There are many limitations which have to be observed. These limitations are based on the requirements of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. The model is described with the linear programming and is solved by the program LINGO.

Support for Romany Secondary School Students

The theoretical part of this thesis is dealing with the differences in education in Romany families as compared to majority families, the education of the Romany minority, educational opportunities of Romany students and inequalities in the transition to high schools as compared with the majority population. Additionally, it describes the reasons for early drop out of Romany students from secondary schools and the concept of the Support is defined, as well as its changes that had taken place over the years till June 2011. The objective of this thesis is to identify the effectiveness of the Support of socially disadvantaged Romany secondary school students and college students. To obtain the necessary data, the method of qualitative research was chosen, the technique of semi-structured interview supplemented by secondary data analysis. The research group consisted of eight representatives of secondary schools in the South Bohemian Region County who asked for the Support in the past. The research results show that all Romany students apply for the Support at the outset of their studies, most of them repeatedly and separately for each period. If a Romany student meets the conditions for granting the Support, he/she must meet the conditions for the payment of the Support. The subsidy granted is paid retroactively in December, for the period from September to December, and in June, for the period from January to June. The unused finance is returned to the Ministry of Education. At the same time, the research suggests that completing the application form for the Support is not easy. The number of Romany students who applied for the Support from January 2005 to June 2011 shows a downward trend. The reasons for not using the Support included, in more than half of Romany children, an incorrect estimate of education costs and also a failure to submit the relevant documents for the retroactive payments; in 21 % of the cases the Support was not used due to drop out of the student, and the rest was due to unexcused absence. It is expected that this thesis could serve as an information source for the general public because the Support, also called positive discrimination, is a powerful motivational tool for socially disadvantaged Romany students for whom it is not easy to continue with their secondary education. At the same time, this thesis could become a source of research for other regions too.

Medicine in classical antiquity and so-called alternative medicine today

My Bachelor's written work is about history of medicine from prehistoric ages to the end of Antique period, further about medicine which was done from herbs and used in Ancient med, their force in nowadays folk and complementary medicine. A force of then men of worth and schools of med, especially Hippocrates and his scholars, Galen and Dioscuridos, of nowadays orthodoxy and alternative medicine is clear. The second part of my work is consisted of audit of some generally known herbs potions which is used in folk medicine in Ancient time and nowadays. The work deals with problem of nutrition briefly, diets during illness and sleep cure in the temples of Gods - healers.
