The Influence of Turbofolk on Modification of Identity In the Diasporal Communities from Former Yugoslavia - example of Post-Yugoslav Communities in Austria

The thesis is concentrated on a research based on turbofolk music in diaspora from the former Yugoslav countries. When speaking about turbofolk, the term can be explained as a type of popular music combined with folk elements. It originates in the former Yugoslav countries, but similar pop-folk genres can be found in other European and non- European countries as well. People with immigration background living in diaspora can possess different types of relations towards this type of music than their counterparts in the ex-Yugoslav countries. Especially, certain common tendencies can be observed among the diaspora youth cosuming turbofolk. This work will primarily give answers to the basic questions including attitudes towards turbofolk in the ex-Yugoslav diaspora. It will describe turbofolk scene in the diaspora and show its extensiveness. In particular it will be focused on the Austrian case (concerning practising turbofolk etc.). The Quest for Identity within the Reality of Plantation Memory in Eudora Welty's Short Fiction

The present MA thesis discusses Eudora Welty's short fiction and the author's engagement with the plantation memory. The introductory chapter defines the concept of plantation memory as a flux of the normative plantation binaries, the plantation mythology obscuring the ante-bellum Southern reality, the linguistic and phenomenal evidence of the prevailing oppression, and the ability of the text and its creator to subvert the official narratives and to liberate the individuals' silenced voices. Applying an interdisciplinary approach, the thesis examines the processes in which the particular selves are confronted with the plantation order and in which their identities are consolidated, either resisting or crumbling under the social pressure. The three analytical chapters of the thesis discuss nine of Welty's short stories that were selected from The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty on the basis of the typology and criteria outlined in the introduction. Without claiming that the nine stories present the sum of Welty's artistic achievement, the texts attempt to demonstrate general tendencies and narrative strategies that the author applies in her short fiction, writing about and within the plantation memory. Poetics of selected short stories written by Pere Calders

(in English) The bachelor work observes selected short stories taken from the book called Cròniques de la veritat oculta written by Catalan author Pere Calders. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the poetics which is typical for this writer. It investigates topics which are often repeated, symbols and space where the plot takes place. It compares the short stories of Calders with other works of writers within the same literary genre who use similar storytelling methods. The emphasis is put mainly on the comparison with the output of Franz Kafka.

The identity of hard of hearing people

The bachelor thesis deals with identity of hard of hearing people. This thesis is based on the relevant scientific literature and is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The contents of the theoretical part are the identity and characteristics and clasification of elements affecting the identity of a person in general. The thesis focuses on identity formation of hard of hearing people in detail. The author also describes issues of subcultures, particularly the subculture of hard of hearing people. The practical part uses investigation to verify elements affecting hard of hearing people identity listed in the theoretical part. In the conclusion, the author summarizes the findings from both the investigation and the relevant scientific literature and formulates recommendations, which suggest way to minimize negative elements in the process of identity forming and support healthy identity development of a hard of hearing individual.

Construction of gender identity within the series Dokonalý svět /the perfect world

The thesis analyzes the instruments of gender stereotypes reproduction and gender identity construction in Czech TV series Dokonalý svět. Is the media content gendered? With which instruments of gender stereotypes reproduction and gender identity construction is TV viewer confronted and on which levels? I use the theory of social construction of reality, the theory of the lenses of gender or the characters and narrative structure of the TV series (soup opera) to come to a conclusion. The thesis focuses on the fact that Dokonalý svět does not only reflect the stereotypes on the other hand. It confronts the standard gender orders by the comic character. The comedy character ridicules some gender stereotypes and shakes their social status.

Exile as a creative process. Chapters from romanian exile literature in France.

Exile has always played a significant role in the history of the Romanian nation. On that account the Romanian literature written in exile after 1945 presents an important part of the history of Romanian literature as a whole. Due to its linguistic and cultural affinity France became one of the main host countries for Romanian exile writers. The introductive chapter is dedicated to description, classification and history of this phenomenon in Romanian context; furthermore, it deals with the position and reception of exile literature in Romania. According to their departure date in exile two generations of authors are presented: Mircea Eliade, Virgil Ierunca, Monica Lovinescu who left Romania in 1940s and Paul Goma, Bujor Nedelcovici, Dumitru Ţepeneag who decided to leave in France in 1970s and 1980s. The chosen works help us to get to know to the writers' creation and lives during the process of integration and, simultaneously, we get familiar with the communist Romania that became the main topics of the exile writers who are chosen as representatives of their exile generation. Through them the basic survey of this phenomenon in Romanian literature was drawn up.

Selected conceptions of interpretation in intercultural dialogue

In reference to Hans-Herbert Kögler's critical-hermeneutical approach, presented paper identifies the act of interpretation as an underlying assumption for realization of intercultural dialogue. The paper is divided in two parts. First part is a discussion of key concepts such as dialogue, identity, communication and recognition. It can also be read as an attempt to capture the development of the idea of intercultural dialogue in a historical perspective. The interulturality is defined here as an ethos. Second part presents particular hermeneutically oriented conceptions of intercultural dialogue, namely the conceptions of Raimon Panikkar, Ram Adhar Mall, Vincent Shen, Franz Martin Wimmer and Hans-Herbert Kögler. The recent shift in methodology of intercultural dialogue is characterized by merger of the paradigms of communication and recognition and is identified in Hans-Herbert Kögler's integrative approach.

Anamaria Remete TEMA EMMC 2nd year Ethnicity Revisited: the Case of Higher Educated Younger Generation Roma in Contemporary Central and Eastern Europe Abstract This research aims to explore the self perception of ethnicity of younger generation Roma in Central and Eastern Europe. The sample population is represented by two groups of higher educated Roma. First those who were beneficiaries of the university scholarships granted by the Open Society Institute's Roma Initiatives. Second those who are working in Roma-focused NGO advocacy organizations. The organisations are: the Open Society Institute-Budapest, European Roma Rights Centre also in Budapest, the European Roma Information Office in Brussels and the European Roma and Travellers Forum by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . This strategy of the Open Society Institute and the above mentioned NGOs has only a short history, which will be discussed further in the study. The self perception dimension is going to be analyzed through the application of the concept of "everyday ethnicity" as developed by scholars Rogers Brubaker, Paloma Gay y Blasco and Carol Silverman in order to gain insight into the dynamics of the factors that come into play in the process of creating meaning for young and higher-educated Roma in countries from Central and Eastern...
