Outsiders in the Works of Tennessee Williams and Sam Shepard

This thesis analyzes characters - outsiders that appear in the plays The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams and True West and Fool for Love by Sam Shepard. These outsiders are always singled out from somewhere and they have difficulties to fit in a relationship, society or the physical environment in which they are found. They have been outsiders their entire lives, thus the past is as important as the present. These characters were classified as outsiders because they cannot or do not want to fit in a majority, belong to one specific place and adjust to environment. Consequently, they often use various means to fight against the reality that they are not part of instead of accepting it. In the introduction of the thesis I explain that even though there is a gap of several decades between the works of both authors and their style of writing is considerably different, we can still find the similar characters that are lost in reality. In this section of the thesis I also discuss the fact that the way authors describe the characters can be related to their own lives and experiences that formed them. Barack Obama and Middle East

The thesis named Barack Obama and Middle East analyzes American foreign policy to-wards the countries of the Middle East region - Iraq, Iran and Israel. After two con-secutive terms of George W. Bush, new policies of the Obama administration are de-fined with the Middle East still in its centre. This paper answers three basic questions: What is Obama's desirable Middle East policy? In what aspects it is different from the steps of his predecessor? To what extent are the pre-election promises fulfilled? The commitments are defined from Obama's speeches and articles made during the peri-od of his candidacy and also from the recommendations of his advisors. The differen-ces between this planned foreign policy and the steps of George Bush are recapitula-ted in the next part. The third part explores the fulfilment of Obama's promises.

Transformations of the Gothic in Victorian Ghost Stories

Thesis abstract This thesis will focus on the ways in which the transformations in nineteenth-century Gothic stories mirror the gradual changes in the Victorian society's notions about perception and about the metaphysical. The nineteenth century marks a time when advances in science made it clear that not seeing something does not mean that it does not exist, and when psychologists made it clear that seeing something does not necessarily mean it does exist. Moreover, the nineteenth century was a time when religious notions that were previously accepted without question started to be doubted. When people lost their faith in the unseen and at the same time became aware that their eyes are not sufficient to see everything and that their mind may play tricks on them, the notion of reality was increasingly problematized, which is made especially clear in the genre of the Gothic. It could be argued that while the basic tropes of the Gothic remain more or less the same; however, the way they are used, the reactions of the protagonists as well as the general outlook of the story are problematized by newly introduced ideas about vision and human mind. Prototyping of Photographic Composition Using Augmented Reality

The goal of this work was to create an application providing the user with an option of creating interesting and realistic looking montages in few easy steps using a mobile phone. The focus is on simplicity, user friendliness and the speed with which the final montage can be obtained. The work discusses available approaches to building such application, the algorithms needed and also the problems with the implementation of computer vision algo- rithms on a mobile device. It also discusses possible options for speeding up the algorithms through parallelization on newer devices running the iOS operating system.

The aim of this work is typifying and physical analysis of short scenes from tho most famous films,mostly of the Czech origin which would be suitable for physical instruction on the second stage of the basic school.This work involves a pedagogical research which focused on influencing pupils of the second stage of the basic school by films and television and their motivation by using the chosen short scenes in the teaching.

It also tries to characterize the genre of reportage by comparison with books of Zdeněk Veselovský, Jaromír Tomeček and Ladislav Stehlík. It identifies the main features of factual literature and fiction, and explores the worlds of reality and fiction as well.

The present work deals in one level with the issue of work and laboriousness in the arts and in the second plane perception of reality and its illusion. Here, briefly explains the function of the visual system, leading to the formation of the image, perception of light phenomena and to create visual illusions (ie. Phenomena, when our perception completely does not match with reality), which served as the basis for dealing with the formal aspects of the work.
