Giuseppe Sarti's Operatic Arias in Prague Collections

This bachelor thesis deals with the occurence of operatic arias of Italian composer Giuseppe Sarti in Prague. The starting point of this work is research of the archive resources of the basic Prague institutions and consequential creating of the list of all available sources. On this basis three most numerous arias are chosen and they are farther remited to musical and textual analyse. Thanks to this analysis it is possible to get closer to Sarti's way of musical composition, in general then to gain evidences of Italina opera during the Classic period. Moreover this analysis provide an opportunity for better understanding of musical conventions and taste in Bohemia in late 18th century. Homeless Movement in Urban Area: Illustrated by the Example of Prague

The following text deals with homeless movement in an urban area and is based on a qualitative field research carried out in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, from the early November 2014 until the beginning of May 2015. The research of such a sensitive topic as homelessness demands much higher attention, with regard to respecting the ethical rules of the field research and publication of materials gained. Therefore, my thesis deals with the motives of their movement usually based on meeting basic human needs, and with general characteristics of locations they stay in. This information clarify why homeless people move in the city without revelation of exact maps of their location, because this may endanger my informants.

American Bar - Phenomenon of European Cities: London, Berlin, Prague Contribution to the History of Bar Culture in Western and Central Europe between the Two World Wars

The thesis deals with the formation of the European bar scene in the interwar period through the "new" phenomenon of entertainment, so called the American Bar which became the symbolic point of social gathering for elites. However, it was the fuel of social progress as an open forum for communication between genders as well. The main part focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the American Bar and its development as the phenomenon, based on the comparison of European cities, particularly London, Berlin and Prague. The main aim of the study was to analyze the phenomenon as the location of the post-war feelings and the option for the new wave of hedonism associated with rising living standards, while the cities were given into clash in their intensity manifestations of the phenomenon. The thesis outlines the overall atmosphere of the bar from many different perspectives, above all, through the forms of bar promotion, the activities of associations, legislative responses, the normal operation of the bar, the professional part of the bar and the everyday socio-cultural impact on the lives of consumers, but also by reflecting on the bar culture in art.

Ballroom Dancing in the Czech Social Environment in the 2nd half of the 19th Century

Thesis deals with the theme of ballroom dancing in Prague bourgeoisie society in the 2nd half of the 19th century. The theme is situated in social and historical context and contemporary political situation. The second part is dedicated to prague associations, Sokol of Prague and sokol festivities. That part of the text proceeds from analysis of the articles and contributions of the journal Sokol (from years 1871-1895). The following chapter about ballroom dancing tries to focus on the types of free time activities which are connected with dancing in the milieu of Prague Czech-speaking society in the 2nd half of the 19th century. It also characterises favourite ballroom dances at that time in the context of social and cultural life. One of the last chapters is dedicated to the relationship of a significant public figure of that time, Jan Neruda, with ballroom dancing. These passages are based on selected examples of Neruda's texts, adopted mostly from Národní Listy. The main intention of the extracts is to complete the picture of ballroom dancing with personal reflection of Neruda as a great dancer, expert on literature and artist. The Development of new traffic vehicles in Prague public transport (1918-1939):realised and unrealised projects

Main subject of the thesis is the history of public transport in Prague from 1918 to 1939 with focus on new means of public transport, with information divided into realized (buses and trolley buses) and unrealized projects (the underground). The thesis aims to broaden the current knowledge of inception and development of new means of transport and evaluate their measure of success. The introductory chapter summarizes the preceding development in public transport of Prague. The next is concerned with trams, the most common public transport vehicles of the era. The key part of the thesis consists of chapters focused on buses, trolley buses and proposed underground system. Those chapters deal with the circumstances of the conception of the projects, the causes that led to the projects being realized (or not), and subsequent development and success of those projects based among other sources on statistic data. Prague Hussite Churches from the Thirties of the 20th Century

This bachelor thesis deals with the theme of Prague Hussite churches from thirties of the 20th century. The first part of this thesis is devoted to a history and basic ideas of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church necessary for overall understanding of this topic. Afterwards the author tries to characterize a general approach to a liturgical space and describe the issue of erecting buildings of this new church during the interwar period. The main part of this thesis is closely concerned with four Prague Hussite churches which were built in the thirties. Chapters of this core part are dedicated to the Hussite churches in Vršovice, Vinohrady, Smíchov and Holešovice.

Preservation History of Art Nouveau Heritage in Hungary, Czech Lands and France Master Thesis Lilla Zámbó Abstract This master thesis discusses the preservation history of the most relevant architectural monuments of Art Nouveau from the perspective of different ideological and political systems of Hungary, the Czech Lands and France in the 20th century. The main objective of the thesis is to examine the influences of Art Nouveau in the society and vice versa through different heritage protection procedures and successful monument restorations, which took place in significant "Art Nouveau cities" of Europe: Budapest, Prague, Nancy and Strasbourg. The Art Nouveau style (1890-1914) was born as a reaction to the academic schools at the end of the nineteenth century and spread quickly by advertising a new architectural program, thanks to its special aesthetical, social and political contents. In order to satisfy the needs of the "modern" age and to create a better environment for the people, Art Nouveau broke with the previous dominant historical tendencies, not only in a mental way, but also in employing a new design and decorative elements.
