Foreknowledge about the domestic violence by the women at the age of 22-37 (Research in the student's house in Prague)
Brtvová, Martina ; Vodáčková, Daniela (advisor) ; Havránková, Olga (referee)
The domestic violence is very serious and wide-spread phenomenon which appears across the social spectrum despite the people's priorities, education, income, religion or social position. The domestic violence has been quietly tolerated across the centuries. In the Czech Republic it was regarded as a private thing of the partners even till the year 2004 when the paragraph §215a (harassment of the person living in the common household or a house) was included in the penal law. From the 1st January 2007 the police have been allowed to save the victims of the domestic violence already at the very beginning of it and expel the violent person from the common household according to the law number 135/2006 Sb. This enables to stop the wave of the violence and avoid further traumatisation of the endangered person or his or her children. Sufficient number of information about the domestic violence and its features and possibilities of solution of the demanding situation within use of the wider psycho-social services also including the possibility of expelling the violent person is essential assumption to stop the domestic violence in time. Foreknowledge of the professionals as well as ordinary people seems to be crucial because the first meeting with the endangered person could start the complicated process of...

Concept of "nature" in Montesquieu's Spirit of the Laws
Fořtová, Hana ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Čapek, Jakub (referee) ; Pechar, Jiří (referee)
The aim of the dissertation is to clarify concept of nature in the major work of Montesquieu, The Spirit ofthe Laws. In fact we cannotfully comprehend political theory of the author without a proper understanding of his conception of human nature. The majority of interpreters treating this question regard Montesquieu as a follower of the modern school of natural law, mainly Grotius and Pufendorf, and they focus their attention on concepts of "natural right" and "natural law". Nevertheless, Montesquieu employs these terms rarely and he prefers to speak simply of "nature"; moreover, he does not offer a systematic analysis of the concept of natural right, neither any elaborate theory of human nature. The general notion of "nature" enables usto explore the scientific meaning of this term covering theory of climate, as one of the central points of author's politicaltheory. The first part of dissertation analyses the scientific meaning of the concept of nature. Through his activities at Bordeaux Academy Montesquieu was not only a spectator of the scientific revolution but he played the role of an active participant in this field. We focused on the author's attitude to the new idea of nature, mainly with regard to his attempt to understand human body. Montesquieu shares the Cartesian mechanistic conception of...

Babilonová, Zuzana ; Lehmannová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Beroušek, Petr (referee)
The thesis is focused on the professional migration of Czech nurses to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the beginning I characterize migration theories that together with other chapters about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, healthcare systems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic create basis for the research that is presented in chapter 5. Objectives of the research, which is the crucial part of the thesis, are to reveal motivations of the Czech nurses that lead to migration to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, their imaginations and expectations bounded with work and life in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Also I would like to find out if the expectations were met and if they want to work and live in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on a longterm basis. Based on the results of the research, I conclude that Czech nurses do not want to stay in such country on a longterm basis especially due to big cultural differences between Saudi Arabian and Czech culture. At the end of the thesis I briefly characterize intercultural training that could help Czech nurses with their adaptation to Saudi Arabian culture.

Žárská, Marie ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee) ; Peterka, Josef (advisor)
The topič of the dissertation "Putting Modern Czech Poetry to Music" is divided into three parts. The aesthetic horizon illustrates that relation between poetry and music makes a fruitful theme in Europe ever since antiquity. Relation between poetry and music served as a subject of various studies and a topič of professional discussions in the 20th century. We consider the works of O. Zich, R. Wellek and A. Sychra the most useful scientifíc publications for the subject matter. Relation between poetry and music formed the subject of a dissertation written in 1989 primarily dealing with a melodiousness of poetry and the poetry in the 19th century. The book "Sung Poetry" of V. Merta enables us to look at poetry and at the process of putting it to music from the pcrspective of a musician. The heuristic part registers the poems put in music published on audio dises between November 1989 and September 2008. The list is made up for future use in educational practice, and contains 251 poems. The list itself is preceded by the chapter "Material and Methodological Procedures" that deseribes primarily the process of making up the list, and specifíes its use, with comments on narrowing the selection. The third part incorporates an interpretation of the selected poems and a comparison of the poems that attracted...

Reconciliation of work and family life - reflection of the European law in the activities of the Czech government
Vošmik, Josef ; Tomeš, Igor (advisor) ; Koldinská, Kristina (referee)
The problem of reconciliation or work and family life has been of cardinal importance over the past few years not only in the Czech Republic but in most European countries. For most families it is becoming more and more difficult to reconcile the duties connected with the care of children and other dependent persons with the occupation. This situation is caused by many factors such as the growth of women employment, changes in family structure, demographic effects, development of human rights and many others. Social policy must take these aspects into account and carry out such acctivities that will enable families to face the challenges of the present society and won't make them decide either work of family. As a part of theory there are quite many particular methods and ways how to help families to cope with their employment and family duties. Some sources distinguish these strategies among individual and family, employers' strategies and strategies of the welfare state. But the European states differ as to how they view family and social policy as well. In the Czech republic there has been a traditionally high level of women employment rate but the birth of a child has a negative impact on a woman's staying or (re)entry into labour market. The possibilities of flexible work arrangements are highly...

Neighbourhoods in localities of Prague
Špaček, Ondřej ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Novák, Jakub (referee)
The neighbourhood is one of the building blocks of the city. The concept of neighbourhood lies between sociological and geographical though, its nature is spatial as well as social. Following Giddens' structuration theory, this thesis tries to develop understanding of a place as a duality of structure and action. The local structure of place is constituted by repeated everyday localised action. Meanwhile an action is constrained, but also enabled, by local structure. Local structures comprise of normative structures (e.g. formal or informal rules) and interpretative structures (e.g. meaning of place). In case of neighbourhood, they among others encompass neighbours' social networks, the attachment to the place and the sense of the community. The empirical part of thesis uses small-sample survey to examine six localities of the Prague (Smíchov, Vinohrady, Hanspaulka, Invalidovna, Bohnice and Háje). The localities represent different morphological parts of the city - an inner city neighbourhood, a villa garden city and a housing estate. Survey results shows, that the garden city of Hanspaulka is a place with a strong neighbourhood community and deep rootedness of its residents. In the opposite, inner city block of flats (Smíchov, Vinohrady) are neighbourhoods, where neighbour's ties are not so developed and...

Data was collected until the end of 2005 when the transit programme was completed by the last of the five subjects. The data processing proceduře was inspired by the qualitative grounded theory of Strausse and Corbin (1999). The data were obtained particularly through active observation and ethnographic interviews with the subjects, and an employee of the transit programme (working consultant). The process of a career choice is considered to be an issue of professional identity. All subjects entered the transit programme with a certain idea about their future careers.
