TITLE: "Holiday" short story genre in A. P. Chekhov's writings SUMMARY: In its theoretical part, this thesis gives an overview of origination and progression of Christmas and Easter short poem genre on the background of Russian Orthodox culture. Main object of this work's practial part is characterization and description of progression of so- called "holiday" short story in the work of A. P. Čechov. Divided into seven thematic groups, short stories are by means of interpretation put into contrast against the Christmas and Easter short story prototype of the last third of 19th century. Using the original quotations of short stories texts the creative modifications of nowadays classical genre are explained: new narrative techniques, modern lyrical view of the world and last but not least the ideal of humanistic view of man. The Applications by a Court from the Legally-Sociological Perspective
Kučerová, Pavla ; Kühn, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Maršálek, Pavel (referee) ; Šejvl, Michal (referee)
JUDr. Pavla Kučerová Aplikace práva soudem z právně-sociologické perspektivy Résumé The thesis - The Applications by a Court from the Legally- Sociological Perspective -deals partly with an individual who applies law within the frame of justice, partly with justice as such. An individual who lives and works within such a complicated organisation as modern justice appears to be, is influenced by the organization, and so his work is influenced - thereby the application of law itself. Various judicial systems as they have been developed over the years, aim at the same targets in the rough. However, they choose different means for target achievement. The position of judges in meritocratic and career justice is also different. The differences can be seen in the way judge candidates are chosen, in what way judges are appointed and in the posibility to remove judges from their office. Two different systems have been analysed in detail - the US federal judicial system as an example of meritocratic justice and the Czech judicial system as a typical example of career justice. Regarding the USA, there is a mention of judicial elections that do not refer to the federal judicial system and seem to be a domain only in several US states. The elections are considered to be such a unique way of judge appointment so that is...

The position of women and "women question" in late Victorian and Edwardian society
Tumis, Stanislav ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The position of women in British society at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was influenced by the traditional conservative ideas which allocated their place in "private (domestic) sphere"; these views continued to have in Britain considerable influence and they were moreover supported by the new ideologies of social darwinism, social maternalism or eugenics. At the same time the influence of representatives of liberal, democratic ideas, the so called new people advocating women emancipation in all spheres of life largely grew. It is not possible to perceive the end of Victorian and Edwardian era as a period in which the modern ideas on women position in society succeeded; on the contrary old conservative concepts though often in new context and another "more moderate" version had the support of the majority of British society, including women. The main reason why the feminists failed to enforce their radical claims at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries lied in the fact that women movement was confined largely to the liberal elites of middle classes and failed to obtain wider support.

To the Legal Status of the Catholic Church as a Public Law Corporation within National Law - An Outline of a Concept
Man, Zdeněk ; Hrdina, Antonín (advisor) ; Plavec, Karel (referee)
The thesis brings an outline of the concept so-called special public law status (recognition as a public law body), that provides church and religious communities with an organizational framework peculiar to public law corporation (corporate body under public law), focused on the catholic church. Therefore at the thesis are analysed the foreign models of an application of this concept, in the concrete in Switzerland and in Germany, that might be, as well, an instructive inspiration for Czech Republic. The public law status is through this thesis sets into the context of the modern constitutional state, as one of the signs of cooperation between state and church, hence it forms appropriate conditions to exert religious freedom. Keywords church, church - state relationships, state ecclesiastical law and church law, public law recognition, public law status, public law corporation.

The critique of the concept of aesthetic experience in the 2nd half of XX. century. Two controversies: the end of art and the rebirth of natural beauty
Dadejík, Ondřej ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Petříček, Miroslav (referee) ; Haman, Aleš (referee)
The present thesis explores the critique of aesthetic experience in aesthetics of the second half of the 20th century. The aim is to defend the consistency of the notion of aesthetic experience and highlight its potential for aesthetics in the 21st century. The thesis points out certain historical and conceptual inconsistencies in the critique, and advances some arguments in support of tenebality of traditionally the main distinctive feature of aesthetic experience: disinterestedness. We focus on two dominant discussions in modern aesthetics that both built on re-evaluation and crititique of the concept of aesthetic experience, namely the controversy about the aesthetic nature of art, and the so-called rebirth of theoretical interest in aesthetic dimension of nature (and other living environments). The thesis comprises ten chapters, each devoted to a particular facet of the concept of aesthetic experience. The chapters are arranged around the 'nuclear chapter' (IV) that articulates the methodological point of view, based on an open model of descriptive definition (drawn mainly from the work of Stephen C. Pepper).

The feminization of nouns labeling jobs, titules and functions as a reflection of social chnages in France in 1967 - 2004 - a lexicographical study

Terrain Processing on Modern GPU
Margold, Roman ; Maršálek, Lukáš (referee) ; Pelikán, Josef (advisor)
Recent development in graphics hardware opened the possibility for new terrain rendering techniques. Former techniques are based on rapid geometry reduction performed on CPU. Recent approaches are moving the load from CPU to GPU, thus keeping CPU available for other tasks, which is especially important for game development. A majority of these approaches is restricted to static datasets or limited data size. We introduce a novel approach which is capable of modifying data during runtime and is easily applicable to potentially infinite landscapes. It is implemented entirely on GPU, except view frustum culling, which is still performed by CPU. However, thanks to the proposed terrain sampling scheme it is trivial and extremely efficient. Employed two-level data representation offers simple implementation without loss of functionality such as sudden change of visual angle or view direction. Those are common problems of other approaches. We also adopted block compression to keep memory consumptions low. Further, a general loading mechanism has been designed and implemented in order to allow asynchronous data read from external medium. This system has been optimized for reading with serial access, although data demands are processed in parallel. The system has been used for continuous terrain data retrieval and...
