A Problem of the auteur film as a value-positive concept
Nováková, Denisa ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Hadravová, Tereza (referee)
Bachelor's thesis will aim to point out the concept of the contemporary understanding of auteur film as a positively laden concept, across professional and public discourses, and to problematize the auteur film concerning its definition. Attention will be paid to the origin as defined in the 50s and 60s with the French film magazine Cahiers du Cinema, whose editors were part of the French New Wave cinema. This group of editors and directors stood at the beginnings of the new wave auteur film movement still spreading across Europe. Therefore, my bachelor's thesis will focus as much on the current definition of film authorship while looking for its roots in the times of the first boom in auteur cinematography. My thesis will examine in detail the requirements for the eligibility of the director to become an author (auteur) not only from the point of view of individual editors from Cahiers du Cinema (François Truffaut, André Bazin) but also their predecessor Alexandre Astruc and following theorists (Peter Wollen, Andrew Sarris). Subsequent criticism of the inadequacy of the concept of auteur film by the mentioned film theorists and filmmakers will be supported by a critical article written by Pauline Kael. Afterward, the thesis will show the parallel of using the concept of authorship with the...
The temporality of empathy
Konyševa, Alina ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Ševčík, Miloš (referee)
As the title suggests, this bachelor's thesis deals with the temporality of empathy. The phenomenon of empathy is fundamentally related to the awareness of time, how we perceive time, continuity, and the understanding of another's behavior. For research, we need to not take into account so-called objective time - the clock's time. Therefore we have to take into account the internal time consciousness. Given the topic, it is natural that we rely on the phenomenological apparatus and method of the father of phenomenology, Edmund Husserl. The work will have two parts. In the first part, we will present Husserl's concept of temporality and the phenomenology of temporality. In the second part, we will present empathy as an analogizing apperception in Husserl's intersubjectivity theory. We will present empathy as a tool for understanding (continuity) the behavior of another. In the third part, we will show the potential applications of this topic to theories of art and the extension of the idea of empathy with the advent of the temporal concept. Keywords: Temporality (zeitlichkeit), empathy (einfůhlung), E. Husserl, T. Lipps, W. Worringer, intersubjectivity, inner time consciousness, phenomenology
Patočka's interpretation of Ingarden's concept of image layers and its use
Čejka, Jan ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor) ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee)
In his late texts, Jan Patočka came up with a remarkable interpretation of Ingarden's system of image layers. Patočka considered this layer system to be a universal method for a characterization of artworks, and this method according to Patočka more suitable than early ones - various analyses of artistic styles (e.g. Riegl's or Wölflinn's). However, Patočka had never tried the application of the method. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to introduce the metehod, place it in the cotexts of Patočka's ideas and try to apply it to specific works of art. In particular, the work will try to prove the effectivity of this method in relation to selected works of modern art. Key Words modern literature, freedom, historicity, movement of truth, phenomenology, the picture, painting, artistic style, fine arts interpretation
Architectonic space
Sedláková, Martina ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee)
The thesis "Architectonic Space" deals with the problem of space in architecture. Describing the distinction of polarity of inside and outside, its task is to define the ontological status of the architectural space. Furthermore the discourse of space within architecture is introduced. The study also deals with both the relation of space and architecture (architectural specializing) and the relation of human spatiality and architectonic space.
Repetition and paradox of genre fiction
Sommerová, Zuzana ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Dadejík, Ondřej (referee)
The Bachelor thesis is concerned with the issue of the paradox of genre fiction which was presented by Deborah Knight. This paradox is based on the question why the readers and the viewers are spending their time by reading and watching stories they are already familiar with so they know what the stories will be about and how will they end. The author is proceeding from Noël Carroll's similar paradox of junk fiction. First part of the text is occupying with the characterization of the aesthetic experience, the principle of repetition in the works of art and the definition of the term of genre. After that in the second part the particular conditions of the paradox are verified.
Genius loci as an aesthetic issue
Křížová, Lucie ; Dadejík, Ondřej (advisor) ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee)
(in English): Diploma thesis Genius loci as an aesthetic problem is addressed by defining the concept of genius loci and exploring its aesthetic implications and parallels. After clarification of the ontological nature of this phenomenon its commonalities will be monitored with selected concepts of environmental philosophy and aesthetics, especially the aesthetic dimension of the environmental experience. Publications of Christian Norberg-Schulz and David E. Cooper are used as a starting material.
Empathy and Art
Huleja, Jan ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Stejskal, Jakub (referee)
This thesis attempts to prove the historical and ideological links between the concepts of empathy and art. Ability to empathize even became the basis of a whole aesthetic school, which considered empathy for the main principle of aesthetic experience. The concept of empathy is first introduced interdisciplinary: from the perspective of phenomenological philosophy, psychology and cognitive science. Then we will focus on the origin and evolution of "classical" aesthetic theories of empathy of 19th century and early 20th century: these theories will be introduced and commented. Emotions in fiction
Martinková, Zuzana ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Dadejík, Ondřej (referee)
The main focus of the thesis are emotional reactions to works of fiction in the process of aesthetic experience. As we are talking about emotions evoked by fictional characters and stories, it begs the question of their nature and genuineness. Following the contemporary theories of emotions (in particular those by Antonio Damasio), the thesis deals with our emotional reactions to fiction in the context of aesthetic experience. It does so by exploring important factors that are a part of the experience: imagination, identification, empathy, sympathy, simulation, and their role not only in the narrative comprehension of the fiction, but also in the deeper understanding of the nature of our emotional reactions to the works of fiction. Based on the above aspects, the thesis evaluates the nature of the emotions experienced during the reception of fiction, and it culminates with a review of the contribution of the emotional experience of fiction to the recipient. The thesis debates the emotions as an instrument for recognition and it attempts to look on the emotions as a cognitive-evaluating factor. Keywords: emotions, fiction, aesthetic experience, empathy, simulation
Ontogical conceptions of picture
Sajvera, David ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor) ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee)
Tato práce podává interpretaci dvou odlišných pojetí obrazu. Oba autoři byli výrazně ovlivněni fenomenologickou filozofií Edmunda Husserla a ontologií Martina Heideggera.
