Růčková, Markéta ; Ebelová, Ivana (advisor) ; Hojda, Zdeněk (referee)
In the course of reconstruction works in the area of the former cloister Na Karmeli in Mladá Boleslav in August 2006 the builders found two wooden boxes. The boxes were buried under the backfilling material of the arch of the cloister's ground floor. They have preserved the so-called Archive of Matouš Konečný (1572-1622), one of the last bishops of the Unity of Brethren before the Battle of White Mountain in 1620. The unilateral correspondence dating back to the first two decades of the 17th century constitutes the main part of the excavated archival documents. The correspondence which was addressed to Matouš Konečný is composed partly of letters from students (or to be precise priests-to-be of the Unity of Brethren). These letters constitute the basis of the submitted diploma thesis. Firstly, the author offers the basic characteristic of the mentioned archival findings and resumes hitherto scholarship related to the theme. Then the main core of the thesis is focused on the education of priests-to-be in the Unity of Brethren. This education took place in Brethren houses and was provided by priests. The quality of the knowledge passed on the pupils depended on knowledge and experience of these priests. The organization of this type of education was regulated by the church's order. Despite the fact that the...

The methodology of map design comprised the following steps: a) selection and preparation of materials, b) field work, when facts are marked in a map and hence the input for further processing is created, and c) the design of the final map in the cartographical software OCAD 9. This process was then concisely written down. Women of the group UB 12 in the context of contemporary Czech culture
Štroblová, Kateřina ; Hoftichová, Petra (referee) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor)
The era of the years 1948 - 1968 in Czechoslovakia was full of historical reversions and events. Also sociocultural scene passed in this period through important changes. From the repressions of the fifties through "the golden sixties" to the "normalisation" of the seventies; all in the shadow of communistic totality. Beside the official art under the dictate of socialist realism the antinomie movements occured here; connecting at prewar modem and avantgarde at the beginning. After enforcing the abandoning of the interdict of art groups, the artists began to associate themselves to different groups, based on friendship or collective artistic opinions. One ofthese groups was UB 12, founded in 1959. The artists ofthe group were of different age; beside of friendship the admiration for French culture and art and also the "poetics of everyday life" was the link between some of them. The group broke after the year 1968. Although the group wasn't united in artistic manners and didn't have the collective manifesto (which often led to its evaluation as average or inexpressive ), it assumed important place in the Czech art. Many of its members (like Václav Boštík, Stanislav Kolíbal, Adriena Šimotová) are considered as ones of the most outstanding artistic personalities of the Czech art of the second half of201 h...

Incompatibilities: the possibility of engagement in contemporary literary theory
Černovský, Pavel ; Procházka, Martin (referee) ; Armand, Louis (advisor)
To relate question of literature, or art in general, to any notion of engagement represents a number of problems. Probably the first is the problem, manifested in the development of the avant-garde, that engagement no matter how openly defined would nevertheless end in a subordination of art to politics, accompanied by politics usurping the right to define what is art. As Theda Shapiro in her account of the relation between politics and avant-garde art points out, at the beginning: "Many artists tacitly and somewhat naively assumed that, since art has been revolutionary before the Revolution, avant-garde artists would intuitively understand what was now needed and respond to the new economic and social situation."l However, this did not prove to be the case. To a certain surprise, the initial belief that "The fine phrase 'free, unpolitical art' is not meant for you"2 has not lead to a natural and spontaneous co-operation of artists and politicians. Instead, the claim of art being necessarily part of politics in a very wide sense was soon seen to be seized by the increasingly bureaucratic apparatus pursuing "ideological needs of the moment,"3 only to be in the end transformed into a doctrine by the "1932 proclamation of 'socialist realism' as the only officially accepted art form."4 To relate literature to...
