The Position of the Czechoslovakia Senate in the Political System in the First Republic

The goal of this thesis is to show the life and functioning of the Senate of the National Assembly of Czechoslovakia. The upper house of the Czechoslovak Parliament functioned between 1920 and 1939 after which it was officially dissolved during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. In the concerned period, the chamber was gradually saw 444 lawmakers of seven different nationalities. The biggest number consisted of Czechs and Germans. The functioning of the Senate is analyzed from multiple angles. First the debate accompanying the establishment of a second chamber before the adoption of the new Constitution in 1920 is analyzed. Attention is also paid to the period debates and unrealized proposals for a Senate reform at the end the 1920's, linked to the proposed creation of the Economic Parliament. Also shown is the proportional representation electoral system used for elections to the Senate. The results were reflected in a large number of political parties with low electoral gains, which in turn hindered the creation of a stable political environment. The thesis considers the party, ethnic, social, intellectual and oratory activities of individual senators. Meaning of life in the work of Karel Čapek

The thesis named "Sense of Life in the Work of Karel Čapek" treats the problems of raison- d'etre of life seen by Karel Čapek. At first this thesis is preoccupied by Čapek's personality and character of his era. Karel Čapek is characterized as an author in whose works were projected his philosophical views influenced mainly by pragmatism. The thesis analyses Čapek's works treating issues of sense of life. Particularly these are two proses by Čapek "Obyčejný život" (Common Life) and "Život a dílo skladatele Foltýna "(The Life and Work of Composer Foltýn). These two novels are at first analyzed separately and then compared.
Everyday life of czech journalist between 1918-1938

This essay deals with historical analysis of dailiness of journalists during the period of the First Republic, which takes from october 1918 to september 1938. The focus is concentrated on their everyday duties, problems and work-habits. This essay describes legal and social frame of journalistic work. The first part concerns with characteristic and theoretical framework of journalistic practice including the profesionalism, the educational process and the social status of journalists. The second part of the essay deals with the dailiness, everyday practises and duties of the members of editorial staff, family life of journalists and their sources of information. This work describes two concrete examples which represent the most respected newsroom in the Czechoslovakia during the period of the First Republic. The aim of this essay is to describe changes that occured in this period and which can now be seen as foundations of modern journalism.
Teacher's Efforts at Social Education and Social Work during Czechoslovakia's First Republic

This diploma thesis deals with the system of education during the period of the First Republic in Czechoslovakia. It focuses on teachers at experimental schools who specialized in social training and education with regards to social work orientated to children and the families they come from. Numerous activities of the teachers in question are described and then evaluated. In the first part of the thesis the author analyzes the teachers'approach to social training and social work in general. Firstly, the work includes a description of the economic situation and the social status of families with children during the First Republic; secondly, it deals with the state social policies regarding poor families and their children. It presents both the facts on the standard of living found in the research surveys and the origins of the educational initiatives of the Czech teachers of that time. It also takes into account the intellectual sources that could influence them and direct them more to the social aspects of the educational process. Czechoslovak Manuevers in 1936

Main theme of the thesis is the Czechoslovak Maneuvers in 1936. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter focuses on the creation of Czechoslovak army, the perion 1918-1932. The second chapter targets the reorganization of army in the period 1932-1936. The Third chapter is dedicated to the issue of armed forces in the period of the Austrian emperor.The fourth chapter is focused on the Czechoslovak Maneuvres in 1936 and research preparations, course, and made knowleges from the great interwar's maneuvres of Czechoslovak army. The fifth chapter closes arbitration service in the maneuvres. The sixth chapter deals with foreign's delegations on maneuvers and finally the seventh chapter is devoted to attitude and reakcions of czechoslovak's press and mankind.
The way of consumerism in the interwar Czechoslovakia nn the example of consumption of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and tea.

Dissertation thesis discusses the consumption of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate in the interwar period in the Czechoslovakia. On the basis of statistical data and examination of archival sources comes with the definition of the middle classes of the population, which those commodities consumed. The thesis shows the distribution of consumption of commodities based on the survey in blue-collar and white-collar families. Furthermore provides insight into the lives of families, distribution of their spending and the size of income. It refers to the representation of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate in the consumer basket and shows the elasticity of the mentioned commodities. For the central part of the research of the dissertation thesis chose the Czech territory only, because here were without difficulty accessible data sources. The Dissertation thesis clarifies the causes of consuming cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate and concludes that each was consumed from another purpose, which resulted status of these commodities. Tea consumption has been designed especially for the higher classes of the population, chocolate bought mostly white-collar family, but over twenties speared consumption of chocolate products also among the middle and lower classes into the population. The chocolate products were subject to early 20s of the luxury tax. Cocoa was used in connection with cooking and baking, but families didnt use this product frequently. Coffee drank all layers of the population, but consumption was based on the social status of the consumer. Very frequently families consume rye coffee and chicory coffee. Dissertation thesis also highlights the regional differences between the classes, which were further intensified. Thesis examines in detail the amount of the duties of the commodity, which in the interwar period varied widely, and concludes that the duty to disproportionately increase the price of products and made it impossible for consumers to buy more of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate.
Analysis and interpretation of the personality Edvard Beneš

This bachelor thesis aims to analyse and interpret acts of the significant personality Edvard Beneš during from the era of the first republic in the first half of the twentieth century. It emphasizes on important acts of our history, in which this significant and inconsidently valuable personality took place. Furthermore it concentrates on the psychological analysis of Edvard Beneš. It describes this personality either from the point of view of his public policitical acts, or from the view of his private life. At the same time it tries to outline the mutual impact of both these important influences on his personality. Hypothesis verified in this dissertation might be used as an educational support while explaining decisions and acts of this personality, which radically influenced the development of the most important acts during in the first half of the 20th century.
The elite of town of Tábor 1848-1938

The thesis The elite of town of Tábor 1848-1938 is dedicated to political life and its inseparably linked social life in the town of Tábor. Firstly this thesis charts to what extent the political and social life was connected. That is why it is necessary to target to the structure of the town municipal council, which is the second aim of submitted thesis. So that we could determinate those who were elected into the town municipal councils and subsequently into the town counsel, we have to analyse the electoral registries, although their preservation is greatly diverse. Moreover, the important part of elite of the town is its life, i. e. where its members lived, whether so-called good address existed, how big family the particular member of the elite had got. Style of life is naturally related to standard of living. Its modern form was presented by the villas, which originated in Tábor at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century and their building continued mainly at the time of the First Republic. And it is the First Republic to which the last aim of this thesis is linked. I tried to outline its development and pertinent change in the structure of the local elite. In the supplement of the thesis I added the biograms of the particular burgesses and naturally, the list of the sources and literature is linked too.
The idea of Czechoslovak statehood and its territorial form in the years 1918 - 1938

The bachelor's thesis deals with the idea of Czechoslovak statehood, presents proposals for the inclusion of the Czechoslovak state in Central Europe by leading Czechoslovak statesmen. It also focuses on the process of the state creation, the immediate events that led to it and the main documents of the Czechoslovak statehood, which contributed to the formation of the Republic. It is also devoted to the postwar peace treaties upholding the territorial form Czechoslovakia. The second chapter characterizes the newly acquired territory of the geopolitical, demographic and economic terms. Furthermore the thesis analyses the various conflicts with the included minorities within the state and describes the battle with neighboring states to maintain the Czechoslovak state integrity. The goal of this paper work is to answer the question why they initially failed to maintain a liberal democracy. What caused the failure to fulfill the ideas of the Czechoslovak state.
The comparison of the TGM presidential elections

The main objective of the thesis is to compare presidential elections of the first Czechoslovak President T.G.Masaryk between 1918 and 1934. The paper deals with the particular elections, their process and impact on the political development of the First Republic. The first chapter is focused on the history of the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic and the presidential office in the new state. The second chapter depicts the political course of events and the dispute on the founding democratic concept of the state during the election in 1920 and the critical one in 1927. The latter part of the thesis is dedicated to the problem of Masaryk's successor and to the presidential election in 1934 when Czechoslovakia appeared on the brink of the democratic crisis of the 1930s.
