Historical development of primary education in Polná in the light of archival sources.

The diploma thesis is of a historical character. It deals with the development of primary education in Polná in the years 1873-1952. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part describes the historical development of the primary school in Polná in the chosen historical period and how it was influenced by the historical development of the town Polná and the region. Included in this part are the historical specifics of the school based on the school chronicles and other archival materials. The methodology of the theoretical part is based on the historical method, the historical-comparative method, work with documents, analysis, and synthesis. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the materials that are preserved in the library and collection of the Museum Polná were used, as well as the materials preserved in the State District Archive Jihlava. The diploma thesis is also based on the expert literature which was written about the history of the town over time. The theoretical part is supported by the practical part, which is composed of interviews with contemporary witnesses, pupils who attended school in Polná in the final phase of the observed period and a teacher who taught at this school in the chosen period. The role of the primary school teacher in creating a school classroom climate and his/her impact on school success

This diploma thesis deals with the influence of the teacher's personality on the classroom climate and school success of pupils. The theoretical part deals with the three basic areas described in the individual chapters - the personality of the teacher, the classroom climate and its actors and components, and last but not least, school success. The topic of motivating pupils in teaching also corresponds to school success, especially at present. In the practical part, the thesis presents the results of qualitative research conducted in the third grade of primary school, which is very specific in its composition, the school itself includes a special program for exceptionally gifted students and currently also educates a large number of students with different mother tongue. In addition, students with specific learning disabilities also appear in the classroom. The three areas described in the theoretical part are mapped by the methods typical for qualitative research, participatory observation, through observation sheets of own production and inspired by scientific literature, and a semi-structured interview with the class teacher. Controversial Issues as a Part of Education in Primary Schools

This diploma thesis focuses on dealing with controversial issues in primary schools. The main aim of this work is to find out why it is appropriate to integrate these issues into teaching, whether it is even possible for primary school pupils to deal with them and how these topics can be taught and integrated. The theoretical part begins by defining the term controversial issue, then it is devoted to developmental presupposition of primary school children for dealing with controversial issues, then how these issues relate to Citizenship and Global Education, and which methods can be used for dealing with controversial issues. Program EATS as an alternative in teaching English language at primary school

This thesis is about an inovative program in teaching English language called EATS. The goal was to find out the effectivness of this program on the basis of repeated observations, didactic testing and interview. In the theoretical part the position of English language in the curricular documents is discussed. Then there is the description of the communicative approach to the language learning which is very useful in nowadays globalised society.The important role of the native speaker is emphasized because he brings the authentic element into the education process and gives pupils good language model. Also the early education in foreign languages is part of this work. Integrated language learning is described on the ilustration of CLIL and its alternative which could be called "language preparation". The aim was to show an example of a good practice which could inspire someone.

The study focuses on problems which appear to be fundamental in primary school education. The work si centred on reading and readerś literacy in primary school. The work is also focused on issues that seem to be fundamental in European school education and current development of Czech primary school. Subject of this study is to present educational policy and educational system of Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom, which represent three different types of school structure. It provides a more comprehensive view of the current issues of educational policy - fairness in school education, language training, integration of troubled students, integration of immigrants and the position of teacher. The final section contains an analysis of the results of PIRLS in Germany, Sweden, Great Britain and the Czech Republic.
Innovative approaches to the assessment of pupils at primary education

In the theoretical part of the thesis we will define the term of assessment according to the literature and we will also present different types, functions and forms of assessment. The main part of the theoretical part is focused on final verbal assessment which is currently put on the same level within the educational system by the new Education Act as the traditional mark system. The development of this way of assessment since 1989 will be reflected. Advantages and disadvantages of this kind of assessment will be summed up in the thesis. Strategies which can help the teacher to collect the materials for the final verbal assessment effectively are also to be found in the thesis. Then, there will be the comparison of traditional and final verbal assessment. The form of final verbal assessment in Great Britain and in Germany will be introduced in the next part of the thesis. In the empirical part of the thesis we will examine the way of final verbal assessment in the primary schools' practice. The organization of primary and lower secondary education in Europe: Comparative analysis of the Czech Republic and Finland in terms of equity.

This thesis is a comparative study, which compare two selected countries, Finland and the Czech Republic in the organization of basic education. The benchmark of equity has been chosen as a comparative criterion. This criterion was further divided into single indicators. The key indicator in this respect was the selectivity of educational systems. For this reason, the thesis presents especially the form and the extent of differentiation of students by each level of basic education in both chosen counties and try to find the number of children who are educated in them. The results of comparative analysis showed that five educational programs with different degree of quality exist in the Czech Republic, while there are only two types of schools in Finland. Finland has used the differentiation of pupils in schools, even in clases in much smaller scale in comparison with the Czech Republic. In Finland, there are no classes with extended teaching of some subjects. The next difference between selected countries is about the age when the students start to be selectived. The students are not differentionated before 16-years in Finland. This diploma thesis deals with national assessment of language abilities of hearing impaired pupils and closer focuses on pre-lingual deaf pupils at the ends of the primary and lower secondary schools. Based on the definition of the characteristics of the national assessment, the diploma thesis also focuses on an overview of currently used language tests, both at international level as well as it gives information about the practice in selected foreign education systems. Special attention is devoted to information that deal with the assessment of language abilities in the Czech Republic, and the form of participation of deaf pupils in such testing . The practical part is done by a research which was done to find out the views of those involved in the education of pupils with hearing disorders just the current assessment practice language skills of the pupils. In the final part of my diploma thesis is a possible outline for innovations for testing related to information from the preceding parts of my diploma thesis.
