The study is divided into two parts: the history and the present. The first part is based on works of historians and analyses the colonial history of France and the process of decolonization. The second part focuses on legacy of the colonial adventure on the present, it follows the discussions in the French press, works on French immigration and integration and analyses of researchers studying repercussions of colonial past on the present. The second part also includes history and specificities of immigration and integration in France, the Law of February 23 2005 on the positive role of French presence abroad, the suburban unrest of 2005 and the Great Debate on National Identity.
The Development of the Czech Minority in the U.S. between 1850 and 2006

This thesis is focused on the Czech minority living in the U.S., which is currently the largest and certainly the most important Czech expatriate minority abroad. There is the historical view of the development of emigration to the U.S. from 1850 to present. The focus constitutes periods which are characterized as another reason for emigration as well as other numerical strength of emigrants. There is then discussed the issue of changes in the number of Czechs in the U.S. and changes in their distribution in various U.S. states. It explains why there are changes in the distribution. The main reason is the shift from agriculturally oriented migrants to immigrants seeking work in factories and finally more intellectual emigrants in the years after World War II. Furthermore, it is focused on three U.S. states (California, Illinois and Texas) which were chosen because of their specificity in relation to the Czech minority in the U.S. There is described in detail the history and current situation of the Czech minority and the current distribution of the Czechs in these states. Also it discusses some demographic and socio-cultural characteristics of the Czech minority in case of the three selected states.
Vietnamese children at Czech schools

The bachelor work is focused on the topic of Vietnam children at the Czech education system. The first part of this work tries to mention cultural-historical background of the Vietnamese coming to the Czech Republic. It is concerning on the differences of the interethnical communication too. Second part of the work deals with the most important problems associated with the education of the Vietnam pupils and students and possibilities of their solution. This part also shows positives of the school as a factor of integration.
Social and cultural adaptation of the cuban immigrants on the czech milieu

This work deals with the immigration of Cubans to the Czech Republic, their life in the Czech Republic and especially their social and cultural adaptation to the Czech milieu. The aim is to find out the reasons why Cuban migrants leave their country of origin and why they come to the Czech Republic. It goes on to describe the way how the individual respondents integrate to the Czech milieu, what helps them to adapt and what is difficult for them. The subject of the research are the Cuban migrants in Prague who came to the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) before the 1989 and keep coming up to the present day.
Italian political discourse and securitization of imigration: the case of revolutions on Maghreb in 2011

The master thesis titled Italian Political Discourse and Securitization of Immigration: the Case of the Maghreb revolutions in 2011 deals with the issue of mass immigration waves reaching Italian shores and, in particular, the tiny island of Lampedusa during the initial phase of the so called Arab Spring. Its main goal lies in reconstruction and interpretation of the political discourse led by Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right government presenting the immigration crisis as a serious threat to national and potentially to European security. The first part introduces the general theoretical framework. The securitization theory of the Copenhagen School was used as an instrument for the thesis, including major criticism raised by the authors belonging to the social constructivist approach. In the second part, the author tries to characterize the basic historical and political context and clarifies the specifics of immigration in contemporary Italy. The last segment contains structuralized discourse analysis of the 2011 events and explores the extraordinary measures adopted and implemented in reaction to the government rhetoric at both the national and supranational levels. Migration, language and integration (Comparison of the Netherlands and Flanders in the 1970s and 1980s)

This bachelor thesis deals with the Dutch and Flemish policies towards immigrants in the 1970s and 1980s and the role attributed to language in them. It examines the arguments and concepts by which both the policies were motivated and legitimated and evaluates critically their usual periodization. It points out the risk of a wrong reading of the Dutch "tweesporenbeleid" of the 1970s as based on multiculturalism instead of expectation of return of the immigrants into their home country. It concentrates on the Minderhedennota of 1981/83 as the main turning point leading to the interpretation of the allochton-issue as socio-economic problem and examines the public debate on the basis of documents of the Dutch parliament. The acquisition of Dutch as second language, it states, always played a crucial role in the policies. Since the 1980s, more attention was paid to evaluation of school curricula in terms of non-discrimination of non-native speakers. In the Flemish case, less systematical approaches were stated. A Holistic analysis of polish return migration programs

In this dissertation, the effectiveness of three Polish return migration programs will be analysed against a combination of return migration theories and economic channels. It will examine the motivations behind their conception, and the services, grants or initiatives implemented with the aim of addressing the needs of new and existing migrants, improving communication channels, and most importantly, developing the environment, means and incentives that will attract migrants to return to their homeland. Any failures to properly identify and address the needs, desires and aspirations of migrants with the structure of the return migration programs greatly delimit the success of the respective program through lesser participation and diminished societal impact.
The opinions of Czech students on the social and cultural integration of migrants

In my thesis I deal with social integration of immigrants in the Czech Republic. This topic interests me primarily from the perspective of Czech students. In the theoretical part of my thesis first I define integration and its three main models, and describe their development. The next section I devote to social integration and its four dimensions. In the next two sections I describe migration development and related migration policy of the Czech Republic to outline the transformation of Czech Republic from emigration to immigration character. After defining the important concepts and theoretical foundations I present my research probe that explores the views of Kladno's students to immigrants, their cultural and interactive social integration. For this probe I selected quantitative survey. I wanted to involve as many students as possible. In this part of my work I introduce my research questions and hypotheses, methodological issues and describe the structure of the questionnaire. In this part are provided also previous studies. Finally I evaluate the results of my probe.
