ZMEŠKALOVÁ, Stanislava
This thesis deals with the history and present state of the education of paediatric nurses and their attitudes towards their own profession. The first objective was to find out information regarding the education in the nursing profession in Bohemia, with a focus on child care, and to create an overview of the education in the profession Paediatric Nurse. The second objective was to find out about the attitudes of paediatric nurses towards their profession. Interviewed were sisters who chose the profession after finishing elementary school and underwent qualifying studies as well as nurses who chose the profession after graduating from a secondary school or university education and achieved their education through specialization studies. The last objective was to compare these two groups and to assess whether there are any differences between them. The theoretical background of the thesis defined basic concepts such as the definition of education, education in nursing, a profession, and attitude towards a profession. Documents related to education since the foundation of nursing education to the present were also used and studied. The chapters on the status of nursing staff and its employment chances focus on the development of the relationship to the profession and shaping attitudes towards it. In the research part of the thesis, the collected information related to education and derived from archival documents, literature, laws and regulations is presented. The results can be used as a basis for creating educational material focused on the history of the field and intended for the education of paediatric nurses to strengthen their identification with the profession. The thesis also presents interviews with in-service paediatric nurses where they express their views on the work in the field and their attitudes towards their profession. The results of the interviews are documented and organized so that it is possible to assess whether there are any differences between these groups. The anticipated differences can be used for further investigation focused on attitudes to the profession. Verified knowledge could then be used for training paediatric nurses aimed at creating desired attitudes towards the profession.

The Communist Party and Colonial Question in Inter-war France
Chlebounová, Tereza ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The thesis deals with the attitude of the French Communist Party (PCF) to the colonial issue in the era of inter-war France. It tries to map the development of this attitude and factors which influenced it. It also aims to make a periodization of the development and determine landmarks which divided its stages. The French Communist Party was the only political party in inter-war France which contested the right of the powers to own colonies and it called for their immediate independence. The thesis analyses whether this opinion stemmed from the inner conviction, whether the Party really advocated it throughout the whole period of interest and whether it actively promoted it in practise or it was rather just a rhetoric. The thesis is divided chronologically into three chapters delimited by events which were crucial for the shape of PCF's colonial policy. The first chapter begins with the foundation of the Party in 1920 and it studies the way communist colonial policy was formed. The second part deals with period 1924-1935 when the Party increased its activity due to the colonial conflict in Morocco. The third chapter aims to describe the evolution of the attitude of the PFC towards the colonies while the international tension was rising. It starts in 1935 when the Popular Front was created in France...

Fišerová, Veronika ; Chalupský, Petr (advisor) ; Ženíšek, Jakub (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to explore the ways Kazuo Ishiguro uses the past, memory and history in his works. They will be described in the context of five novels: A Pale View of Hills, An Artist of the Floating World, The Remains of the Day, When We Were Orphans and Never Let Me Go. The three phenomena are considered Ishiguro's main areas of interest and, therefore, the thesis tries to answer why he is so fascinated with them and whether they serve to convey a particular message. A special attention will be drawn to what seems to be central for Kazuo Ishiguro - going back to his characters' early years and pointing out the key moments that shaped their lives, attitudes and opinions in the future. The focus within the defined field of interest will be on the position of an individual in historical events, themes of guilt, loss, self-deception and regret.

Integrative role of Dělnické listy for the orientation of Viennese Czechs in the period of political change 1918-1919
Bláhová, Šárka ; Sekera, Martin (advisor) ; Krejcar, Robert (referee)
This master's thesis examines the influence of a Czech newspaper, the Worker's Papers, that was published in Vienna. The daily paper was targeted at Czech citizens living in the Austrian capital in the times of political changes, between 1918 and 1919. First, the thesis employs the method of a quantitative analysis of articles from selected front pages of the Worker's Papers. I overview the major topics that the newspaper most often reported on: the world politics and the situation of Czechs living in Vienna. Then, I engage in a qualitative content analysis, analyzing key issues of Czechs that were often publicly discussed in the Austrian capital. Regarding the world news reporting, only articles that directly influenced Germany and Hungary are considered, since the Worker's Papers paid a special attention to this region. Using the quantitative, as well as qualitative, content analysis, I examine the extent to which the reporters in the Worker's Papers influenced their readers in terms of their audience's decision making and in terms of shaping the collective identity of the Czech minority in Vienna. The thesis discloses the topics that the Worker's Papers frequently reported on. Additionally, the thesis reveals the role of the newspaper in shaping the way Czech minority perceived themselves in the...

Černá, Nina ; Hazuková, Helena (advisor) ; Landischová, Erika (referee)
First-hand experience with art at school as a factor in shaping attitudes to art and an artistic perception of the world My dissertation deals with the issue of how pre-school teachers acquire art-related skills and looks at the factors which influence this process. The general focus of the dissertation was updated, with the agreement of my supervisor, in line with the recommendations of lecturers from the Faculty of Primary Education. The aim of the dissertation is to provide up-to-date feedback on the effect of teaching art and the influence it has on the attitudes of pre-school teachers. I have attempted to point out the factors which emerged as insufficient in teacher training and yet are essential for ensuring a high standard of teaching. I have based my findings on the experiences reported by pre-school teachers and secondary teacher-training school students of art at school. The dissertation examines the findings of mainly quality-related research, drawn from analysis of interviews with pre-school teachers in the joint towns of Brandýs nad Labem and Stará Boleslav, which have been used as the basis for compilation of a series of case studies. The research has been supplemented with a questionnaire-based investigation for secondary teacher-training school students and a survey conducted amongst...

Republican foreign policy and the war on terror
Skoupý, Jiří ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
The diploma thesis "Republican Foreign Policy and the War in Iraq" deals with the process of U.S. foreign policymaking from the perspective of the ruling Republican Party between 2003 and 2007. It tracks the development of the intraparty debate on the war in Iraq in reaction to the gradually worsening security situation in the country. It analyzes positions of various schools of thoughts within the American conservative movement and the changing configuration of power in American politics in the studied period. The thesis aims to explain why the Iraq policies of the Bush administration remained virtually intact up until January 2007 despite failing to deliver satisfactory results and what factors shaped this outcome of the conservative debate on Iraq. Three hypotheses are offered to answer the research questions. The first concerns President Bush's management style and the setup of the policymaking process within his administration. The second deals with the global war on terror narrative constructed in the aftermath of 9/11 and its impact on American political discourse. And the third analyzes the use of foreign policy and national security issues as an electoral wedge issue by the Republican Party.

This thesis on "The status of persons with disabilities in the labor market in the Czech Republic" deals with unemployment of people with disabilities. It explores the evolution of the social approach to persons with disabilities, that in the course of history changed attitudes of rejection in tolerant attitude. Today, the status of a group of people with disabilities is affected by broader social aspects, which include social consciousness and a focus of national policies. The status of these groups of people are also shaped by other influences, including lack of education, the existence of barriers, ignorance of employers and low motivation. Employment has many meanings to humans in the form of financial security, social contact or as the creator of the daily regime. It is important to ensure that vulnerable groups in the labor market have the same opportunities as non-handicapped. In the Czech Republic there are measures that serve to promote the employment of vulnerable groups, which include a group of people with physicall disabilities. These measures include vocational rehabilitation, advice, retraining and sheltered employment. Non-profit organizations provide employment services to unemployed persons with disabilities. Guzik, Hubert Kamil ; Švácha, Rostislav (advisor) ; Dulla, Matuš (referee) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis examines the relationship between architecture and feminism in the first half of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia. It opens by defining the dynamics of Czechoslovak feminism and architecture with regard to the theory of social movements. This text primarily focuses on the program, objectives and the modus operandi of the liberal branch of feminism, represented mainly by the non-partisan organization Ženská národní rada (Women's National Council). Members of this Council believed they could actively participate in shaping of the government policy on the social standing of women and maintained a close relationship of their organization to the state polity. We view this belief and this relationship as a model valid for a wide range of other women's organizations in that period. We consider these links the most important factor in determining the feminist organizations' relation to the movement of modern architecture. We follow the interaction of architecture and feminism in three chapters. The common denominator is the position of these two movements to modernization processes that were taking place in the nation state, in particular to the advent of the theories of scientific management. This main topic also determines the time frame of the text, beginning with formulating of social ethos in the...
