Memory of the place "I will return there"
Jušková, Kamila ; Cikánová, Karla (advisor) ; Synecký, Jakub (referee)
The thesis "Memory of the place" is focused on seeking for the points of thematic support - the attributes of the landscape, that would characterize selected places within the region of Czech Switzerland, Elbe Sandstones and Luzic Mountains and help to the visualization of the landscape by means of photography and also to the subsequent creative paraphrase. In the thesis the selected place is characterized by the double type of the geological structure - on the one hand those are the sediments of sandstone and on the other hand eruptive rocks of the crystalic basalt. These two types of structures then subsequently serve to the creative shifts in the practical and pedagogical part of the thesis. The sandstone varied in shape and colour (the principle of destruction, expression) and on the contrary the monochrome firmly construed basalt (the principle of construction) are shown in the different relations with the other attributes of this landscape, e. g. with water, vegetation and influence of the man. At the same time the elements of time, light and motion are projected into their metamorphoses.

The analysis of Boris Antonenko-Davydovytch's of early novels
Svobodová, Petra ; Chlaňová, Tereza (advisor) ; Morávková, Alena (referee)
In my diploma I concentrate on the analysis of short stories by Boris AntonenkoDavydovych, the Ukrainian writer, whose works belong to the first half of the 20th century. I especially aim at Davydovych's prozaic works from the 1920s which had been affected by revolution changes and after-revolution-chaotic reality. First I introduce the literary process and time when the author was active and I chronologically name the sequence of Davydovych's prose. In the first chapter I analyze the single stories at large while focusing on the action that is later divided into partial chapters and focusing on the most important plots and expressive characteristics, I explore the composition issue, the characters themselves, time and space point of view and also the author's style, the method of his narration and his choice of lexical and figurative instruments. The second chapter concerns the topics of Davydovych's stories. His works from the 1920s map the historical topics of the World War I and the year 1905, the civil war and the famine in the years of 1921-23, the after-revolution reality. The third chapter focuses Davydovych's stylistic range that does not divert from realistic mantinels. Though his work is also influenced by revolutinary impressionism, neoromantism and symbolism. The fourth chapter deepens the view...

Premeditated Note of Expressive Gesticism. Influences of Western Europe in work of Jan Kotík
Jan Kotík byl dobře informovaný o evropském a americkém soudobém umění a to i v těžkých padesátých letech, nepřejících abstraktnímu umění.

The effect of cancerogenic azo dye Sudan I on expression of biotransformation enzymes
Hejduková, Žaneta ; Dračínská, Helena (referee) ; Svášková, Dagmar (advisor)
Sudan I is a widely used azo dye which has the ability to cause carcinomas in organs and tissues of experimental animals. During reactions catalyzed by microsomal monooxygenase enzyme systems or cytoplasmic biotransformation enzymes, Sudan I is oxidized to reactive metabolites that covalently bind to nucleic acids and cause their damage. Sudan I can also be metabolized by reduction, e. g. by a DT-diaphorase enzyme (NQO1). Reduction of Sudan I is considered to be a detoxification reaction. In this work, the in vivo action of Sudan I is examined in terms of its ability to induce an expression of the biotransformation enzyme DT-diaphorase in tissues of rats treated with the azo dye. The aim of this work was to quantify the degree of NQO1 induction at mRNA level. After the isolation of total RNA from organs of rats treated with Sudan I, the RNA was converted to cDNA by reverse transcription using random hexamers as primers. Using specific probes, the abundance of mRNA for the enzyme NQO1 in the organs of treated rats was quantified by "real-time" PCR, relatively to the control gene with a constant expression (β-actin). Through comparing thus determined amounts of mRNA in individual organs of treated and untreated rats, it has been found that Sudan I had caused a significant increase in the expression...

The role of community interpreter from the point of view of users' expectations
Holkupová, Jiřina ; Čeňková, Ivana (referee) ; Rejšková, Jana (advisor)
The thesis focuses on the expectations of interpreters and public institutions with regard to the role of interpreters in a specific type of communicative events, i.e. in interpreter-mediated encounters between foreigners and Czech institutions. This type of interpreting is commonly referred to as community interpreting. Taking into account that there is a lack of consensus in the literature concerning the interpreter's role, the thesis aims to explore how Czech interpreters and institutions perceive this role in the absence of binding professional standards. The main goal is to determine whether the respondents see interpreters more as passive 'translation devices' or 'conduits', or whether they consider them to be active communication participants in their own right. The first part of the thesis provides an overview of research focusing on the interpreter's role, and gives examples of how this role has been codified, both in the international context and in the Czech Republic. The second, empirical part, presents the results of a questionnaire-based survey conducted among Czech interpreters and public institutions. The main part of the questionnaire has been designed with the aim of determining which expressions of the different interpreter's roles are seen as desirable by the respondents, and which are...

Epigenetic regulation of expression of immunoactive genes on tumor cells
Hejhal, Tomáš ; Reiniš, Milan (advisor) ; Šmahel, Michal (referee)
The aim of this master thesis was to identify epigenetically silenced genes and to determine molecular effects of DNA methyltransferases inhibitor (5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine) and histon deacetylases inhibitor trichostatin A (TSA) on gene expression in cancer cell lines TC-1/A9 and RVP3. Epigenetic events play an important role in tumorigenesis and also in escape of cancer cells from immune surveillance. I analyzed global changes in gene expression profiles of two cell lines by microarray analysis with a special attention paid to immunoactive genes. The experimental model used for this purpose were murine tumor cell lines, MHC class I deficient. I identified epigenetic regulation of several genes that are involved in cancer and immune system interactions. These data demonstrate that epigenetic agents are capable to activate expression of genes that are important for antigen presentation, cell adhesion and apoptosis. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Femme fatale of the Czech avant-garde? Marie Majerová from a gender point of view
Nývltová, Dana ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor) ; Musilová, Dana (referee) ; Wiendl, Jan (referee)
This thesis explores the work and life of a Czech female writer, Marie Majerová, from a gender point of view. Majerová was well known as a Communist author after WW2; however she is almost unknown as a feminist writer and activist. This study considers the ambiguity of her position from different angles. It primarily concentrates on her contradictory roles as Communist vs feminist and "femme fatale" vs "femme nouvelle", as well as on her relation to female issues. On one hand, she wanted to advocate the position of human kind and their work; no matter what gender they were; on the other hand, she was literally fighting for womens' rights and their own opportunity to express themselves in fiction. Majerová can serve as an example of woman's position in the changing modem world of the first half of the twentieth century. At the same time, she demonstrates an individual approach to literature, politics and life based on the will to change and to influence the world around her. This study focuses on Majerová's fiction, joumalism, correspondence and the image of women, along with her self-created image, as well as on the immediate reception, reviews and critiques and the perception of her work and personality. From a gender point of view, Majerová is interesting as a private person, agitator, politician,...

Chronicles of Narnia as a resource for drama education lessons
Zelená, Markéta ; Marušák, Radek (advisor) ; Hanyš Holemá, Irena (referee)
This thesis is concerned with realization of a set of drama education classes based on a particular literary work of the fantasy genre, namely C.S.Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew. The lessons are designed with respect to the moral values expressed by Lewis in his book with the intention to acquaint its young readers with basic concepts of Christianity. Pupils are introduced to those values by means of various drama education methods and techniques, with the overall aim of aiding the pupils in creating a set of values of their own, drawing on both their personal experience and the newly gained knowledge.
