Tučková, Lucie ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
The diploma thesis introduces in detail the chiefliterary work ofHenri Pourrat Gaspard from the Mountains. After the introduction ofthe author's individuality and after highlighting the main sources of inspiration of Pourrat 's work, the thesis is devoted to a thorough analysis of "Gaspard from the Mountains" in terms ofhow it was created in accordance with the oral folk tradition, an analysis which has not been attempted to by anyone tilI this time. This has been proved on the theme of the work itself and on its episodes, structuring of Gaspard from the Mountains into individual part s corresponding with particular evenings which as ifthey were spent together with a woman-narrator ofthe story, on the inserted humour, and last but not least on the way ofhow language devices typical for oral expression are employed. One whole chapter ofthe thesis has been devoted to individuallanguage levels ofthe work. Next, the spiritual part ofthe literary work which basically determines the direction ofthe main story line is stressed because faith underlies all actions of Anne Marie, the heroine ofthe story. The lyrical as well as the spiritual parts also display Henri Porraťs extraordinary poetic capacity. The last chapter ofthe thesis provides the first critical evaluation ofboth Czech translations of Gaspard .from the...

Traces of/in the text
Mihálik, Jakub ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
The author describes and critically reflects on some features of the discussions concerning the relation between the text and its interpretation that have been held mainly in the USA since the 1960s. The core of the essay is a critical evaluation of some theories of Stanley Fish (1938). Fish's insights are seen against the background of the more traditional - "formalist" and "new critical" models of interpretation. The author poses the question to what extend can the text and its meaning be conceived as something objectively given and to what extend should they, on the other hand, be seen as products of culturally or institutionally based interpretive strategies. The first two chapters look at two attempts at challenging the "new-critical" method of analysis according to which the exclusive object of critical attention should be the text itself. The first attempt (S. Fish) consists in turning the attention of the critic from the text towards the reader and her consciousness. The author sees this theory as problematic owing to the fact that the experience of the reader who reads in the way suggested by Fish will always be to a great extend a product of Fish's method. The description of her reading experience would then be no more than a description of one specific mode of reading. The second attempt (E.D....

Kubištová, Markéta ; Sycha, Martin (referee) ; Beneš, Milan (advisor)
The subject matter of this paper is searching for relations established between one's biological sex, gender (the social construction of sex) and position in the society. It discovers the causes and correlations of unequal attitude towards men and women, as well as it attempts at finding possible solutions of the issue by means of education. The first chapter explains the basic terms and relations between them, the creation of human biological sex and establishment of gender. The term is explained as socially conditioned cultural differences between men and women. The chapter also states certain theoretical standpoints clarifying gender construction, in particular the process of socialization of an individual, during which the person's gender is created. The aim of the second chapter is to describe the role of educational institutions and the system of education in establishing and maintaining social inequalities. It explains the mechanisms of schools contributing to socialization of a person, with a special emphasis on creating, or supporting gender identity of a child. The work of teachers and their attitude to pupils is an important aspect supporting the traditional perception of gender roles. The purpose of the third chapter is to define the scope of education of adults, its basic principles, goals and...

Hynčica, Pavel ; Znoj, Milan (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Vladimíra (referee) ; Reschová, Jana (referee)
M Cleavages and Ideological Blocks in the Czech and Slovak Party Systems after 1989 This work brings knowledge from the comparison of the Czech and Slovak party systems. Based on long-term monitoring of the development in the field we attempted to point out its relevant characteristic. We compare the ideologically compatible blocks and political parties. Determinants of the formation o f Czech politics were ethnical homogeneity, long tradition of secularization in the Czech Lands and domination o f a single (socio-economic) cleavage line. The political development in Slovakia was influenced by the unsolved national question (position of Slovakia in a multinational state), ethnical heterogeneity, greater importance o f Christianity and religion in the society and many other factors. Consequently, the formation o f Slovak politics was characterized by multiple complicated and specific features. In the Czech Republic, two major blocks formed first: the civic non-socialist block represented mainly by the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), and the socialist block represented by the Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD), which corresponds to the domination o f the socio-economic cleavage line. The minor poles are mainly parties with the communist identity (as a result of the concentration of the radical left and...

Rethinking the Animal: Post-Humanist Tendencies in (Post) Modern Literature
Gridneva, Yana ; Vichnar, David (advisor) ; Procházka, Martin (referee)
This thesis posits post-humanism as a philosophy that engages directly with the problem of anthropocentrism and is concerned primarily with the metaphysics of subjectivity. It studies five literary texts (James Joyce's Ulysses, Virginia Woolf's Flush, Djuna Barnes' Nightwood, Brigid Brophy's Hackenfeller's Ape and J.M. Coetzee's Elizabeth Costello: Eight Lessons) that challenge the humanistic or classical subject through critical engagement with what this subject traditionally saw as its antithesis - the animal. These texts contest various fixed assumptions about animality and disrupt the status-quo of the human. Breaking with the tradition that treats animals exclusively as a metaphor for the human, they attempt to see and understand animality outside the framework of anthropocentric suppositions. This project aims to describe the strategies these texts employ to conceptualize animality as well as the methods they apply to delineate its subversive potential and to disrupt the human- animal binary. Its theoretical framework combines the work of thinkers belonging to the new but thriving field of Animal Studies with the ideas of Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. It is this project's great ambition to contribute towards the development of new post- humanist ethics defined by its...

Biographies of the said directors are also included in the thesis, as well as the list of theatre's plays form 1990 (with the dates of premieres) and photographic material ilustrating the theatricals analysed here.
