This thesis analyzes the quality of three selected Czech newspapers (Deník Právo, Hospodářské noviny and Mladá Fronta Dnes) in Kosovo conflict between the years 2000 and 2008. All together 116 newspaper articles were analysed from January 2000 up to February 2008. The main goal is to find out if the three main Czech newspapers were able to describe the situation in a neutral manner while bringing high quality information, thanks to using the content analysis. The practical part is devided in four parts and in each one the press is analyzed by standarts given and then they are rated by them. In the final summary they are compared and their work is evaluated.

Havlíková, Magdalena ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
In my work I am dealing with the value inclinations of Czech journalists from the newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes, the tabloid Blesk (including the Sunday issue Nedělní Blesk) and the magazine Reflex. I have focused on the articles written about socially marginalized squatters in the years 2000, 2008 and 2009. I am interested in the values present in this discourse and what position will these values take towards squatters. In the theoretical part I explain concepts like hegemony, binary us-them, moral panics and body discipline, which will help me in my analysis. Recognized values are put into categories and subcategories according to their content. I describe the development of values within categories in different years. Finally I compare the values of the analyzed media.

This chapter covers the period shortly before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the events of the nineties and the turn of the century followed by the discussed referendum and constitutional change. Obenbergerová, Linda ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Kyjonková, Petra (referee)
Diploma thesis "A Reflection on the Question of Single European Currency Adoption in the Czech Press" deals with an analysis of media picture of the transition of the Czech Republic to the common currency euro in Czech media. With the help of the quantitative method of content analysis and the qualitative method of grounded theory, articles from the dailies Hospodářské noviny and Právo are being analysed. The sample includes articles from the beginning of May 2004, the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union, until the end of April 2011. Quantitative content analysis enables comparison of both of the periodicals by means of organization and general summary of quantifiable data from the articles. The method of grounded theory regards the examined collection as a whole and provides detailed analysis of the sample in order to identify hidden structures of the text. The focus of this work is articulation of the media image of the European common currency adoption in the Czech Republic, based on the partial outcomes of the research project. This text as an extension of the bachelor thesis "The Image of Euro Adoption in Czech Press" uses its outputs in addition to the revision of the research with a broadened sample, mapping seven years of development of the topic. Consequently, scope for...

Pavlis, Daniel ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Suk, Pavel (referee)
My rigorous thesis describes the system of press regulation in Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia by means of two-level comparison. The first one is a comparison of official orders and directives with real content of legal Czech protectoral press (it means "Národní politika" for this research) during two important eras: after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Hitler. The second one is a comparison of these two media agendas and their synthesis. I wanted to demonstrate the process of press regulation through concrete agendas that are similar in many points: both events are the same (assassinations); both men were the highest men in nazi hierarchy (Hitler was number one in the Third Reich, Heydrich was number three); media were supposed to make some reaction in the direct of recipients because of the propaganda power. But there were some differences as well: the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich causes his death and it was made by Czech emigrants; Adolf Hitler survived almost unhurt and the following revolt and plot (part of the operation Valkyrie) was planned by German high officers in Germany. One of the results of this rigorous thesis is the statement that it was important for Czech press institutions if the event is a part of protectoral life and environment or if it takes place elsewhere...

Kraevská, Markéta ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Hanzal, Jaromír (referee)
The diploma thesis The CEZ affair from the perspective of the Czech and Bulgarian press deals with the media portrayal of the unrests in Bulgaria in February and March 2013, which were caused by the high prices for electricity that had been supplied, among others, by the parastatal Czech company CEZ. This company became a symbol of the protests. The basis for the analysis and comparison consists of the Czech dailies Mladá fronta Dnes, Právo, Hospodářské noviny and the Bulgarian dailies Trud, 24 chasa and Standart. The reference period is February 2013, when the protests began and subsequently culminated at the end of the month. This work aims to describe how the whole affair was depicted in selected examples of Czech and Bulgarian press. Subsequently, these two approaches are compared. In addition to the analysis, the thesis also touches the topic of modern history of Bulgaria and an outline of Czech-Bulgarian relations. The individual periodicals used for the analysis, as well as the energetical concept of Bulgaria are introduced in order to achieve easier understanding of the entire problem.
