Zetek, Jan ; Bouma, David (advisor) ; Červenková, Denisa (referee)
The master's thesis, "Religious Extremism - From the Perspective of Danger to Society and State" provides a comprehensive look at and characterizes the global problem of extremism, with a particular focus on terrorism in connection with religious groups operating primarily in the Czech Republic after 1989. The first part maps out the extremist scene in the Czech Republic and identifies within it the position of religions defined as extremist. The second part discusses religious extremism and focuses on the dangerous sectarian discourses and manifestations of some religious movements and communities as a danger to individuals and the broader environment. The third part deals with the most radical form of extremism - terrorism - as the most serious security threat to society and state.

Professional development and further education of teachers
Votavová, Pavla Marie ; Šerák, Michal (referee) ; Mužík, Jaroslav (advisor)
The further education of teachers' is a very complex area. Its development started in previous centuries. The importance of this area is not decreasing. On the contrary, it is still rising. In spite of the clear importance of the further education, the fact is that it is one of the least solved areas. Questions connected with these problems touch many branches. One of such questions is who and how should teach teachers and what kinds of methods and forms are the most proper. Very important is also the solution of legal support, either the fact that the further education is not legally established or the certification of training programmes. Teachers used to be respected by the whole society. Without re-establishing of this original view the situation can not change. One of the possible ways is that of introducing the system of attestations. But primarily it is a question of suitable financial and legislative support form the government. Support of the whole society is of the same importance. It is for its welfare that teachers work

NGOs in the cultural life of town Louny
Pelc, Martin ; Žák, Josef (advisor) ; Matějů, Martin (referee)
This paper focuses on a niche of local culture represented by non-governmental non-profit organisations (associations). The objective is to identify and analyse their part in the cultural life of the city during the 20 th century on the basis of theoretical assumptions. The backbone of the paper is the finding of how the transformations of the structure and role of association life influenced the social and mainly the cultural life of the town Louny. I attempted to identify, track, and interpret this phenomenon wi thin the various periods of time between 1918 and 2000. I chose this time span intentionally, for within this relatively short time frame, our country underwent several politically, economically, socially, and culturally distinct periods. My scope of interest covers the period between the World Wars marked with very intensive association life, the role of associations during the Protectorate period (Sokol, Junak), the conflicting developments between 1945 and 1968, the destruction of cultural life during the Normalisation period, and the renewed boom in the democratic society after 1989. Each period has its specificities and it is of interest to present the changes occurring in the local context, as the various entities are much more comprehensible on the local scale than if observed from a...

To the communication of the towns in the period before the Battle of the White Mount (The correspondence among New Town of Prague and some king's towns in the central part of Polabí)
Vojtíšková, Jana ; Hlaváček, Ivan (advisor) ; Ryantová, Marie (referee) ; Ledvinka, Václav (referee)
The submitted thesis aims to scan the written communication among the city councils of royal towns in the period before the Battle of the White Mount, particularly the correspondence among the New Town of Prague and Royal Towns in the Central Part of Polabí, explicitly Český Brod, Kolín, Kouřim, Kutná Hora and Nymburk. The research was based mainly on 20 town registers of the period and on the extant scripts which enabled me to set up both the communication process and particular agents. Thus we were offered the insight into the townhall, its offices, circumstances of the origin of missivs, we observed individual characters and institutions involved in the negotiation procedures. We came across the issue of messenger service mediating the delivery and last but not least we were concerned about receiving correspondence, its interpretation at the time and the content of discussed matters. Another issue we dealt with was the terminology ie. definition of written communication, diplomacy terminology, especially register issue defined as supplemental office book in publishers'offices containing the office scripts. The written communication of the perion represents just one component of wide range of ties occuring in the corporate society. The most significant role was represented by the city council the...

The position of women and "women question" in late Victorian and Edwardian society
Tumis, Stanislav ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The position of women in British society at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was influenced by the traditional conservative ideas which allocated their place in "private (domestic) sphere"; these views continued to have in Britain considerable influence and they were moreover supported by the new ideologies of social darwinism, social maternalism or eugenics. At the same time the influence of representatives of liberal, democratic ideas, the so called new people advocating women emancipation in all spheres of life largely grew. It is not possible to perceive the end of Victorian and Edwardian era as a period in which the modern ideas on women position in society succeeded; on the contrary old conservative concepts though often in new context and another "more moderate" version had the support of the majority of British society, including women. The main reason why the feminists failed to enforce their radical claims at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries lied in the fact that women movement was confined largely to the liberal elites of middle classes and failed to obtain wider support.

Modulation of nociceptive synaptic transmission in the spinal cord dorsal horn
Špicarová, Diana ; Paleček, Jiří (advisor) ; Vlachová, Viktorie (referee) ; Rokyta, Richard (referee)
7 ABSTRACT Pathological pain states linked to several diseases or tissue damage are often associated with increased sensitivity to stimuli. The main underlying mechanisms of this hypersensitivity are peripheral sensitization of nociceptors and central sensitization in the spinal cord. One of the crucial processes of central sensitization is the modulation of synaptic transmission at the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. Studies included in my doctoral thesis investigate the possibilities of regulation of synaptic strength by cytokine TNFα, insulin and TRPV1 receptors agonist N-oleoyldopamine (OLDA). These three compounds are synthesized in the CNS, while TNFα is produced in the spinal cord notably during neuropathy. TNFα and insulin have a potential to modulate synaptic transmission. Endogenous TRPV1 receptors agonist OLDA can activate spinal TRPV1 receptors, which are highly expressed on central endings of nociceptive dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. TRPV1 receptors are known as integrators of nociceptive stimuli particularly from the studies of peripheral receptors on nociceptors, which could be sensitized by inflammatory mediators and activated by temperature increase or decrease pH that is unlike in the spinal cord. In our experiments miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (mEPSCs) or evoked EPSCs...

Using information and communication technologies in everyday life was the main reason to include them in education too. The goal of thesis is complexly define electronic learning as another instrument in education, view on factors which are closely connected with it and recognition of developments and trends which e-learning goes to. Next on the base of accomplished analysis note on positive and negative effects on society and also on importance of individual knowledge and individual's critical thinking. Theoretical framework at first defines the basic terms like data, information, knowledge and education, which are more used in the rest of the work and without their clear definitions is work useless for potential reader. As next deals with both views on information and communication technologies, describes information society and its main characteristics, especially importance of information and its essential role for economy. Following chapter is focused on e-learning as an extensive topic. Defines electronic learning as a complex unit, from historical development to nowadays. Also includes variants of e-learning, persons which are involved in and modern trends as the last like Massive Open On-line Courses or m-learning. Key part of the work is analysis applied on electronic learning and presented in SWOT form, where are described identified particular factors. With summary of analysis deals next chapter. There are chosen factors discussed in common with available statistics from Czech Statistical Office and on this continues last part, which is focused on positive and negative effects on society. Recommendations resulting from the work are listed in the end of the thesis.

Telenská, Jana ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Bittnerová, Dana (referee)
My work has focused on the Czech Euroindians history of their origin, what it means to be "Euroindian" and how they themselves understand their way of life models. The aim was to find the identity of the Czech Euroindian in modern Czech society. The work deals with the spiritual culture and the implementation of some of the most characteristic of Indian's ceremonies, habits when camping (spring, summer, autumn, winter) as the teepee construction and compliance with the label inside the teepee, cooking, playing the most typical Indian's games, music and singing and other joint events (Pow wow General Assembly, etc.) and their connection with modern life in Czech society. My work is theoretical and empirical. I base it on the method of qualitative research. I use literary sources, Internet resources, personal communication and e-mails with Czech Euroindians and unstructured interviews with Czech Euroindians. Valuable sources of information were also in journals Buffalo wind, Wampum Neskenonu magazine and the Tramp. I also used the method of participant observation in my own field research, which consisted of two two-week stays at summer Euroindians camps near the village Chýlice by Toužim in year 2004 and 2005 and I continued working on my work Metamorphosis Lakota ceremonies from the past to the...
