Motherhood as a competence for primary school teaching

The diploma thesis is focusing on phenomenon of change of career paths of university-educated but non-pedagogically educated women who return to the work process after maternity / parental leave. However, these women, who before motherhood were engaged in various jobs, in which they also achieved considerable job success and fulfilled their professional dreams, do not return to their original jobs. They are newly choosing the position of primary school teachers. Motherhood, as a loss of original professional competencies and gaining of new competencies, is thus a key aspect of research in connection with primary school teaching. The goal of this thesis is to uncover, in the form of in-depth interviews conducted from a feminist perspective, the reasons and motives for changing the employment of individual communication partners, to what extent it is a truly free choice of these women, and how the family, state or public discourse participates in this change. Mothers with visual impariment and their experiences

The present bachelor thesis deals with the issues and possible specifics that come up in context within the scope of motherhood when the mother is visually impaired. The aim of this thesis is to compare what is known so far about parenting whilst destitute of vision with the real experiences of specific visually impaired mothers whom I have interviewed. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part consists of three sections. The first section is included in the thesis in order to define visual impairment and to illuminate the specifics of the personality development of the visually impaired individual, focusing on the periods of adolescence and adulthood. The second chapter defines parenting, outlines for the reader the current state of research on the topic of parenting by individuals with visual impairment and presents the essential specifics of this parental role and their children. The third chapter characterizes the prejudice against people with visual impairments, followed by a closer look at the biases against these women and mothers. The empirical section includes findings from a qualitative study. Stress in women with impending preterm birth

This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of premature birth and the stress associated with it. Although health care in the field of obstetrics is improving, the incidence of preterm birth remains constant worldwide. Preterm birth is a serious perinatological problem and it is therefore important to continue to address this topic. In obstetrics, then, we must not forget the psychological issue, which is an integral part of this branch of medicine and plays an important role in it. Therefore, this thesis also focuses on the psychological part of the issue and discusses in detail the connection between stress and premature birth. The thesis is conceived as a theoretical-practical one. The theoretical part consists of an obstetric part and a psychological part. The obstetric part deals with the issue of premature birth. It deals with its causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and management. The psychological part deals with the problem of stress. It deals with types of stress, stressors, consequences of stress and describes the stages of the adaptation syndrome as well as psychological mechanisms of coping with stress. Birth of a Child - Rituals, Customs

This bachelor thesis focuses on the birth of a child in the Czech family and society in the nineties of the twentieth century and at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The chapters and the subchapters are concerned with the periods connected with the birth of a child and are aimed at rituals, customs and activities connected with coming of a new life to the world. The thesis is divided into three main parts, pregnancy, childbirth and post-natal period. In the part Pregnancy we will look at how awaiting of a new life is reflected in the language, superstitions and various practices and what is necessary to do before the birth of a child, we will especially focus on the choice of a name and surname. In this part we can find the chapter on the preference for the sex of a child and on the values which the Czech society connects with a child. In the second part Childbirth we will look at the perception of childbirth as pain, at the course of childbirth and at the first things which are necessary to do after the birth of a child. The chapters on maternity, fatherhood and family were also put to this part since the birth of a child creates a new, lifelong relationship between a child and his/her parents. Motherhood of Women with Heavy Visual Disability

In my work, I deal with motherhood from the perspective of mothers with severe visual impairment. I focused especially on parenthood planning, on the period of pregnancy, childbirth and stay in the maternity ward and on the care for the child from birth to the age of three. I was interested to find out, whether visually impaired mothers encounter prejudices on part of the well-sighted people, whether they were worried that they could give birth to a handicapped child, what are the difficulties that severely visually impaired mothers come across most often in the individual period of development of the child, if and how education of children is different from the perspective of visually impaired parents from the perspective of well-sighted parents and also whether the child growing up in a family with at least one visually impaired parent is deprived of something or whether, on the contrary, this family situation has any advantages for such child. The objective of my diploma thesis is to map out various aspects of life of visually impaired mothers with small children in the greatest detail, directly from the point of view of those women. I attempted to achieve this objective by means of a qualitative method research, in particular in the form of a structured interview with six visually impaired mothers.

Gender-sensitive Literary Analysis of Richard Yates's novel The Revolutionary Road

In the thesis "Gender Literary Analysis of the novel Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates" a qualitative interpretative analysis with aspects of discourse analysis is used to interpret the plot and characters from a gender perspective. These interpretations are based on the "resistant reading" method introduced by Judith Fetterley. The literary analysis concepts introduced by Pam Morris and Elaine Showalter are also used as a point of reference. The aim for the application of Gender as a methodological category is to reveal and find new potential meanings and interpretations of the whole story and its characters with respect to their gender identity. The key areas that are focused on are motherhood, emancipation.

Social security and legal protection connected to maternity in the Czech Republic and the European Union The purpose of this master's degree thesis is to give a comprehensive overview of the current situation for pregnant women, women on maternity leave and parents on parental leave, including the protection of their rights provided by the employment laws in the Czech Republic and the European Union. The thesis is composed of an introduction, the main text and a general summary. The main text is divided into two parts. The first part deals with Czech legislation, covering all of its aspects related to maternity. It starts with development of maternity and parental benefits in Czechoslovakia and in the Czech Republic, but then focuses on the current legislation, mainly on the Sickness Insurance Act (maternity benefits, compensation benefits in pregnancy and maternity), State Social Support Act (parental benefits, maternity grants) and the Labour Code (maternity and parental leave, protection of women at work, etc.). African-American Mothers in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin and Toni Morrison's Beloved

This BA thesis examines the concept of a black mother as a key figure in the fight for freedom as depicted in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin and further explored in Toni Morrison's Beloved. Stowe's novel presents the idealized concept of motherhood in characters such as Eliza Harris, Aunt Chloe, Mary Bird and Rachel Halliday. These characters represent Stowe's ideology of Christian motherhood, in which the mother acts as a mediator of moral and religious principles in her family and community. To enable the identification of white middle-class female readers with the African-American characters in her novel, Stowe employed a distinctive method of characterization in Uncle Tom's Cabin. One of the main characteristics of her female figures is their ability to perform a maternal role. Mother love is depicted as a universal force, which is common to both white and African-American mothers, and which is equivalent to the love of Christ. Stowe believed that motherhood based on Christian values would free the United States from slavery and rebuild her society. Motherhood as the breaking point in the life of a young Roma mother

The aim of this thesis is to look into the lives of young mothers of Roma nationality and to get better understanding of influences that affect them and their adoption and perception of their maternal role. The choice of this theme is based on experience with previous working with Roma families. For the research, it has been chosen five mothers aged under 25 years, with whom were conducted unstructured interviews. In the theoretical part, there is a discussion about motherhood in general and later about its specifics in the Roma community. The greatest emphasis is taken on the receiving parent role. Firstly, the empirical part is a discourse about the choosen method - grounded theory. Then there is detailed description of data processing and data analysis. The following chapters are devoted initially to environmental influences to motherhood and later to the concrete experience of the respondents. The experience of motherhood is viewed from several angles - the time horizon (from conception to birth and the first reaction to child) and the importance of her baby to the mother, especially in terms of commitment and in the context of plans and wishes.
