University in the time of climate crisis
Babišová, Michaela ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Wladyniak, Ludmila Maria (referee)
This qualitative diploma thesis deals with the process of establishing the sustainability agenda in the institutional context of Charles University in connection with the climate crisis. The student Initiative Universities for Climate, of which I am a part of, drew attention to the need to reconsider and change the operation of the institution with regard to its internal and external functioning during the Occupation Strike for Climate in November 2019. The initiative politicized the issue through a protest form of negotiations, forcing a wider range of actors to relate to the issue. My work is based on specific related theoretical frames, which are united by criticism of the hegemonic political system in relation to environmental issues [e.g. Swyngedouw 2011, Fisher 2009, Žižek 2006]. I place the research in the context of post-normal science, which is one of the democratization tendencies in science that open up the possibility of confronting different approaches and dialogues with different social groups. This approach reflects the entry of science into complex issues involving social issues [Funtowicz, Ravetz 2002]. In the theoretical part, I deal to a large extent with social movements with a focus on radical environmental movements [e.g. Doherty 2002, Merchant 2005, Wahlström et al. 2013, De...

Sexual assaults on College Campuses: A Case Study of the University of Richmond
Steňková, Gabriela ; Kýrová, Lucie (advisor) ; Sehnálková, Jana (referee)
This work is a case study of sexual violence at the University of Richmond, which examines the major cases and changes that took place at the university in the period from 2011 to 2021. The topic of sexual violence on American campuses has received much attention prevention in 2011 and the increase in protests against sexual violence in 2017 led to greater public attention, during which students criticized universities for their inaction against perpetrators of sexual assault. In selected cases, this work points to the fact that the University of Richmond has faced several media-known cases of sexual harassment, which has forced it to take steps to increase the prevention of sexual violence on its campus. Furthermore, this study points to the limits of ethical research and restrictions that are associated with research on sexual harassment on American campuses. This made the possibility of agreeing research on campus more difficult and also pointed out that although university academics are aware that the data obtained by the questionnaire would be beneficial to the university, it is not possible for such research to be in charge as a primary research student.

Repko, Šimon ; Macháček, Vít (advisor) ; Špolcová, Dominika (referee)
Mediators of scientific knowledge are currently large scientific citation databases and platforms build upon them as they have conquered the role of the librarians in the digital environment. Direct utilization of bibliographic data for analysis of international academic mobility helps to gain insight into behavior of high impact international scholars. Geographic structure of global academia facilitates exploration of the prospect that Gravity and Radiation models can be complements to each other. In addition, author challenges role of university rankings as a principal driver of decision-making process for academic mobility.
