Structure and Development of Criminality in the Administrative Regions of the Czech Republic

This thesis is focused on the structure and development of crime in the single administrative regions of the Czech Republic over the period from year 2000 when these new administrative units were established until year 2012. The main aim of the thesis is to map and describe the structure and development of crime in the different parts of the Czech Republic, the profile of typical offenders and crime typical for the given region and last but not least the detection rate of crime committed in the analyzed areas. The text also explains the key terms such as criminology and crime and its structure and development and presents the main sources of data used for the hereabove described analysis. The difference between latent and registered crime is also discussed therein.

GROFOVÁ, Renata. Conditional Sentences to Imprisonment with Supervision - Its Application and Practice of Performance in Terms of the Probation and Mediation Service. Praha: Faculty of Arts of Charles University, 2013. 82 s. Master Degree Thesis. The aim of the Master's thesis is to ascertain how the supervision of conditionally convicted persons is applied and fulfilled. The theoretical part of the thesis analyses the system of the various forms of punishment. The key part of the thesis focuses on Suspended Sentences with surveillance and the application in practice of this form of punishment. The thesis also includes a chapter about the Probation and Mediation Service. The practical part describes the process of examination and the evaluations of the results. The last part of the thesis contains an evaluation of the gained findings and a proposal how to streamline the above mentioned form of sentence in order to make it more effective. The research methods chosen are a research questionnaire survey and the analysis of records. The research sample was compiled out of the employees of the Probation and Mediation Service in Prague and the files on record of the Probation and Mediation Service in Prague. The crime of theft under s. 205 of the Criminal Code

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the offence of theft, as the typical representative of all the offences against property. The reason for my research is to offer a comprehensive view to this difficult issue. My study is composed of four main chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of the topic. Chapter one is introductory and defines basic goals and a content of the text. This chapter also includes some considerations about the theft and about the thesis itself. Chapter two attempts to illustrate a historical introduction of the topic. It is subdivided into three main parts. The first part describes the oldest references about a theft in the history, the second part analyzes a development in the roman law and the third part is about the notion of the theft as it went through changes throughout Czech law history. Chapter three examines relevant Czech legislation. It is subdivided in four main parts. There are the nature of the offences against property and the legal formulations of offence of theft in current Act No. 40/2009 and in previous Act No. 140/1961 introduced in the first and second part of this chapter. Alternatives of Home Violence Settling as seen by the Roman Catholic Church

My dissertation Alternatives of Home Violence Settling deals with various alternatives of how the home violence problems can be settled. The introductory chapter goes through the professional interpretation of the home violence term as well as causes, forms and specific signs of this violence type, being followed by description of its consequences and the myths which have gained a foothold in the general public. The home violence is characterized as a long-term, repeated and escalating physical, mental, or sexual cruelty to persons living in the common household; it takes place between close persons, adult family members, or also life partners. The victims, being exposed to long-term violence, lost their self-confidence, however, their fear and confusion increase; they also suffer from a good many various symptoms as depression, shame, decline of general state of health, or increased suicidal behavior. Chapter two focuses on the characterization of the home violence victims and delinquests as well. As to the victims, these can be everybody, irrespective of their education, age, social position or economic situation - women, seniors and handicapped persons as well as men. Crime in Czech media: Image of crime in Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo newpapers

Diploma thesis "Crime in Czech media: Image of crime in Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo newspapers" tries to map way and development of crime presentation in print media in the years of 1996 and 2006, using a content analysis. In the initial, theoretical part, there are the basic hypothesis explained, a description of crime from the sociological perspective and a description of crime history in former Czechoslovakia and in the Czech Republic from 80's of the 20th century until the present time. Further, there is an explanation of relevant chapters from media studies. The pracical part consists of a description of the research method and the portrayal of the research process. It continues with the content analysis itself and the evaluation of collected data. The data are presented in percentage rates and displayed in charts. Acquired rates have been compared with each other and have been searched for further relations amongst them. In the conclusion there is an overall summary of the research findings and their evaluation concerning the basic hypothesis.

The thesis also focuses on the analisis of deliquency causes at this group and compares preventive measures in terms of various departments.
Access to victims of crime in terms of the interested state institutions

This diploma thesis deals with the policy for the access to the victims of crime. It focuses on activity of interested state institutions that cooperate with victims of crime. In today's approach victims of crime represent a group of people which is seen as people who need assistance. In Czech Republic this approach is reflected in adoption a law on crime victims that comes into force in 2013. Subject of modification of this law directed to defining rights of crime victim as a subject of special care provided by the state, modification of provision of financial support for victims of crimes provided by the state and assessment of legal basis for cooperation between state and organization that provides assistance to crime victims. Diploma thesis deals with reasons for this major legislative change in policy for the access to the victims of crime. It examines the law-making process and the adoption of the law and focuses on implementation of law through the authorities that is active in criminal proceedings and Probation and Mediation Service. It seeks to answer the question to what extent this measure fulfills the objectives.
