Social networks as an inspiration source or reason of lower self - confidence - What impact can Instagram have on body image perception
Nothing tastes as good as hunger (television documentary about anorexia)
Slavíková, Kristýna ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Lokšík, Martin (referee)
Eating disorders (abbreviated as ED) are complex mental illnesses that manifest not only on the level of the mind, but also have a profound effect on the physical health of patients. Individuals who suffer from one of the types of ED often face a significantly reduced quality of life, as well as misunderstandings and unfounded prejudices from the general public. Arguably the most well-known variant of the disease is anorexia nervosa, which is also one of the psychiatric diagnoses with the highest mortality rate. Although the incidence of the disease has increased in recent years, for example as a result of social media and the COVID-19 pandemic, audiovisual coverage of the topic has lagged behind, as there are few recent films dealing with the disease. The television documentary, Nothing Tastes as Good as Hunger, therefore seeks to bring the audience closer to living with anorexia through the authentic story of 19-year-old Tereza Putišová, giving viewers an uncensored insight into the mind of a girl who has her own rich experience of the disease.
Instagram and its influence on Gen Z woman related to the development of eating disorders
Kafková, Kateřina ; Vranka, Marek (advisor) ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the impact of Instagram on eating disorders in Generation Z girls. Due to the visual focus of this social network, the thesis primarily focuses on exploring the ideal of thinness widely presented by influencers. All is interpreted in the context of the addressed group, namely women born between 1995-2009 using Instagram. The thesis is divided into 3 chapters - theoretical, meta-theoretical and practical. The theoretical part of the thesis presents a comprehensive set of basic information directly related to the issue of eating disorders, hence media. It also defines the very concept of generation and body image, which is closely associated with the development of eating disorders. The methodological part presents proven scientific methods, some of which have been directly modified for the specific environment of Instagram. In the last, practical part, the context is explored through quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire according to the above methodology. The discussion offers an evaluation of the results and a review of related research. At the very end of the thesis, I then present practical benefits that can be applied preventively, while offering theoretical foundations for further research on the issue of Instagram's influence on the development of...
Social networks as an inspiration source or reason of lower self - confidence - What impact can Instagram have on body image perception
Pařízková, Veronika ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
The issue of the ideal of beauty presented in the media has been a worldwide phenomenon for several decades. After the origin of digital media, interest in researching this issue has expanded even more, and researchers are coming to new insights and conclusions. Body perception and satisfaction are important factors in self-concept. The subject of this diploma thesis, which I dare not call pure autoetnography, but rather qualitative research using my own self-reflection, is to bring a new perspective to the question of the media's effect on the perception of own body image. Through in-depth interviews that describe in detail several experiences with various forms of eating disorders is to think about the impact of Instagram on this topic. The main conclusion of the research is that none of the respondents confirmed Instagram as a trigger of the disease. Respondents call Instagram as coercive and harmful at a time when their psyche is already broken in some way. In that moment, most respondents described this social network as toxic and dangerous. However, despite all the negative experiences that most of them describe in the research, and which I went through as the author by myself, none of the respondents came to the conclusion that she should leave this platform at all.

Kočí, Gabriela ; Stackeová, Daniela (advisor) ; Demeková, Júlia (referee)
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a mental illnes manifesting itselg, among other signs, with impaired body schema and rejection of food. Principal focus of the thesis was to assess the discrimination treshold, ability to evaluate sensory perception and body self-concept in adolescent female patients hospitalised with anorexia nervosa. Our goal was to clarify and better understand the still not adequately described neurophysiological aspects of anorexia nervosa. The results were compared to control group; both groups comprised 18 girls, the average age of observed group being 14,7 ± 0,71 years and average age of control group being 15,3 ±0,71 years. Two-point discrimination was examined in three areas - arm, between shoulder blades and belly - with modified caliper. The Petrie test was used in sensory perception testing, while body self-concept was measured with BAT questionare. The examinations were performed in standardised conditions during similar day times. We found significant difference in two-point discrimination in the area between the shoulder blades with significance level α = 5 % and p-value p = 0,0001. A statistically significant difference was also observed in body self-concept with significance level α = 5 % and p-value p = 0,017. Thus we conclude that patients suffering from anorexia nervosa...
