STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS IN THOMAS HARDY'S NOVELS

The bachelor thesis focuses on the position of women in the Victorian Era, concretely found in the fiction of Thomas Hardy. The principle of this work is to analyse and characterise Hardy's heroines who, in defiance of the established Victorian social standards, stand out in a crowd. Thomas Hardy brought the female-related issues, at the time mostly overlooked, into focus. We reveal the dissimilarity of the heroines by comparing them to the traditional Victorian portrayal of women. The core of the thesis is the analysis of three feminine-centred novels with their protagonists - Bathsheba Everdene from Far from the Madding Crowd (1874), Eustacia Vye from The Return of the Native (1878) and Tess Durbeyfield from Tess of the d'Urbervilles (1891). The first chapter centres on the description of the Victorian era and its society, especially women and their status in a patriarchal society. The following chapters will be devoted to the above-mentioned female characters and their modern mindsets and attempts to defy the Victorian ideal. These women face the traditional gender roles of Victorian society and struggle for emancipation.

Female candidates: analysis of the media representation of "femininity" in the Czech presidential elections of 2023

The aim of this thesis is to form an idea of the ways in which "feminine" is portrayed in the media in the Czech presidential elections in 2023. The representation of women in top Czech politics is still a minority and no woman has yet become president or prime minister. This fact does not mean that women are not as suitable for these positions as men. It means that they do not have equal opportunities in the public sphere, or rather they do not even dare to enter it. This stems from a patriarchal social order in which public sphere is adapted mainly to men. In the theoretical part of the work, I will therefore focus on the history of feminist movements and the present of feminist theories in the field of politics, the issue of women in top politics and the conceptualization of new media and their relationship with political communication. The methodological and analytical part will deal with the research of media representations. In 2023, only one woman ran in the presidential election - Danuše Nerudová. Based on an analysis of her official social media campaign, I will assess how she worked with the fact that she is a woman. Gender including transgender and its roles between Czech Pagans

The thesis analyses how modern pagans work with gender patterns and how they generally think about the topic of gender and gender inequality in the Czech Republic. I researched that through quantitative method - survey and also qualitative method - six semi structured interviews and participant observation on two rituals. The paper is based mainly on subjective perception and belief of pagan respondents and informants.

The Role of Women in the Velvet Revolution

The Role of Women in Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution Abstract This thesis investigates the role played by women in Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution of 1989. Overall, it finds that despite the marginal role attributed to women in the dominant narrative of the event, women in fact played a key role in every activity of the Velvet Revolution and therefore were a key factor in its success. Drawing on case studies from elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe, it hypothesises about the sources of women's erasure from the historical record and subsequent national memory, arguing that the conservative gender order influenced the type of revolutionary work women did, the lack of visibility they were afforded, as well as their own devaluation of their contributions. Given the similarity in findings, it advocates for the development of an analytical concept to theorise the function of gender in social movements and their subsequent memorialisation. Finally, by documenting the activities done by women, it aims to reorient women as historical and political subjects in the Velvet Revolution, worthy of further historical inquiry. The influence of the menstrual cycle on the sports performance of cyclists

Title: Influence of the menstrual cycle on the sports performance of female cyclists. Objectives: The aim of this work is to analyse the performance of female elite athletes in cycling in different phases of the menstrual cycle using a questionnaire survey and laboratory testing. And to find out whether menstrual cycle and its phases affect their sport performance. Methods: In our thesis we used two method. The first method was a non-standardized anonymous questionnaire sent to women who are or have been involved in cycling. The second method was a laboratory stress test of three female cyclists. We tested each proband during three phases of her menstrual cycle. During the menstrual, follicular and luteal phases. Results: We found that the menstrual cycle affects athletic performance. Based on the questionnaire we learned that they perceived the influence of the menstrual cycle on their sport performance, whether due to physical or psychological difficulties. Testing showed that during the follicular phase, all probands experienced an increase in maximal performance. At the same time, they all described their mood as cheerful and energetic. Implementation and success of offensive standard situations in football in the Czech highest women's league

My bachelors work is focusing on offensive standard situation in soccer, in particular its realisation and its succes. My analysis is based on watching recorded women's soccer matches in first czech women soccer league. This bachelors work is composed of two main parts - the teoretical part and research section. Teoretical part is focusing on teoretical terms, which are rules of soccer, gaming systems and standard situation. In research section I dealt with the way teams are pitching game situations, the place that standard situations are played from the most often,which player is usually starting the standard sitaution, which player is usually ending the situation, if the standard situations end in goal or not and mainly, how are particular realisation of standard situations succesful, all that in first czech women soccer league. Informations from my bachelors work can be used by coaches for analysis offensive standard situations individual teams of first czech women soccer league and coaches can choose suitable tactic for realisation of offensive standard situations. Comparison of Women in Politics with a Focus on Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) and Germany

The bachelor thesis deals with the influence of women in politics during the period of the Weimar Republic and the first Czechoslovak Republic. Subsequently, it discusses the situation in the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany. Specifically, it focuses on the issue of granting women the right to vote and their low representation in the legislative bodies of selected countries. It also analyzes the fundamental reasons why the representation of women in politics is low and several solutions to how this persistent problem can be solved. In addition to important women not only in the Czech but also in the German political scene, it also mentions personalities who con-tributed to the emancipation of women in both countries.

Postavení žen v Peru -- případová studie Ayllu Ruwasunchis

This bachelor thesis is focused on position of women in Peru. The thesis brings basic insights into the topics of gender equality, feminism and significance of women for the development of a society. Based on literature review and statistical data the thesis describes a role of women in Peru. The aim is also to introduce a community of women in Lima called Ayllu Ruwasunchis which was researched within technique of direct observation. This part is followed by suggestions covering the activities the community could take into consideration in order for it to keep developing. The discovered information confirms that the gender inequality is still present issue in Peruvian society, which is important to address at all decision-making levels.

Gender-based violence against women in Ghana. Perspectives from the University of Ghana

Background: Gender-based violence against women is a global pandemic that violates human rights. This abuse is prevalent among women and girls and adversely impacts their physical well-being, empowerment, and social welfare. GBV against women is influenced by structural gender inequalities and GBV occurrence also widens gender inequalities. Objectives: The study sought to examine the socio-economic impact of GBV on women’s socio-economic status based on a study perspective from the University of Ghana’s Social Work master’s students. The study also sought to ascertain the prevalent forms of GBV against women in Ghana and identify achievements that have been made to protect women from GBV and also to assess legal frameworks and policies available to address GBV against women. Method: The study employed a mixed-method research design and utilized primary data through which semi-structured interviews or questionnaires were responded to by the study respondents. Purposive sampling was used in selecting the 98 respondents of this study. Results: The study reviewed that GBV against women is a serious human rights and development problem with lethal economic and social effects on women. The study highlighted that IPV is the most prevalent form of GBV suffered by women in Ghana. The study also identified the DVA of 2007 as one of the biggest achievements made toward addressing GBV in Ghana. However, several obstacles including poor law enforcement, cultural biases, lack of adequate infrastructure and resources, and poverty have reduced the effectiveness of legislation and institutions governing GBV against women in Ghana and these have also impeded GBV reduction and its effects on women.
