This MSc Thesis presents history of Apple's operating system and developing application for Mac OS X. First part introduces long evolution of macintosh's OS since early beginings in 1976 focused on latest Mac OS X. Second part makes reader acquainted with elements of creating applications for Mac OS X using Cocoa framework and Objective-C language which is real objective superset of well known C language. Practical part is developing file manager. Programming patterns from file manager are used for explaining fundamentals of developing. This contains exact directions how to create first application step by step.

Marketing products with the Fair trade cocoa label

This thesis analyses the issue of fair trade and the possibility of using its principles in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the reasons for formation of fair trade, its current status and issue of cultivating cocoa beans in developing countries. It also focuses on personality and consumers' shopping behaviour in the Czech Republic and how to manage properly a retail store in order to maximize the demand for Fair trade cocoa products. The method of questionnaire survey and observation is used for the research. It examines the offer of Fair trade cocoa products in retail stores, the range of demand, public awareness of fair trade, and consumer behaviour. Thus, the main objective of this thesis is to explore the supply of Fair trade cocoa products in retail outlets and the awareness and interest of these products among consumers.Then propose measures to increase sales of products with the Fair trade cocoa labels and also to summarise of the general public interest in this issue.

Determinants of Technical Efficiency and its Change among Ghanaian Cocoa Farmers

This thesis analyses determinants of technical efficiency (TE), its change and scale efficiency on an unbalanced panel of more than 700 Ghanaian cocoa farmers collected between 2004 and 2010. Using variable returns to scale data envelopment analysis the TE scores are obtained and the mean TE found is 35.4%. In second stage, random effects Tobit regression is used to investigate the determinants of efficiency and number of significant determinants is found from categories of farmers' characteristics, different technical specifications of the farm, focus on farming, farm management style and investments. Moreover, this thesis contributes to the efficiency debate by researching determinants of efficiency change, finding gender and savings to have significant positive effect among others.
Cocoa Trade in Colonial Spanish America

My dissertation is focusing on the cocoa trade in colonial Spanish America. Cocoa is undoubtedly one of the New World products which has dominated Europe. The work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter focuses on pre-Columbus period. It describes the origin of cocoa bean, its spread and its significance to the first cultivators. Considerably big part of this chapter is dedicated to the importancy of cocoa bean for the Aztecs culture.The next chapter focuses on the arrival of Spanish colonists, their first experiences with cocoa bean, the beginning of the cocoa trade and its introduction and spread to Europe. The main points of the third chapter are the main areas of cocoa production and trading in the colonial period. Each part of this chapter focuses not only on the trade in Venezuela, Ecuador and New Spain but also on other related topics. The fourth chapter briefly describes Bourbon reforms and shows their influence on different areas of production in 18th and the beginning of 19th century. The way of consumerism in the interwar Czechoslovakia nn the example of consumption of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and tea.

Dissertation thesis discusses the consumption of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate in the interwar period in the Czechoslovakia. On the basis of statistical data and examination of archival sources comes with the definition of the middle classes of the population, which those commodities consumed. The thesis shows the distribution of consumption of commodities based on the survey in blue-collar and white-collar families. Furthermore provides insight into the lives of families, distribution of their spending and the size of income. It refers to the representation of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate in the consumer basket and shows the elasticity of the mentioned commodities. For the central part of the research of the dissertation thesis chose the Czech territory only, because here were without difficulty accessible data sources. The Dissertation thesis clarifies the causes of consuming cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate and concludes that each was consumed from another purpose, which resulted status of these commodities. Tea consumption has been designed especially for the higher classes of the population, chocolate bought mostly white-collar family, but over twenties speared consumption of chocolate products also among the middle and lower classes into the population. The chocolate products were subject to early 20s of the luxury tax. Cocoa was used in connection with cooking and baking, but families didnt use this product frequently. Coffee drank all layers of the population, but consumption was based on the social status of the consumer. Very frequently families consume rye coffee and chicory coffee. Dissertation thesis also highlights the regional differences between the classes, which were further intensified. Thesis examines in detail the amount of the duties of the commodity, which in the interwar period varied widely, and concludes that the duty to disproportionately increase the price of products and made it impossible for consumers to buy more of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate.
