Living Europe: the alien impressions of Henry James and Lambert Strether
Manire, Damian Peter ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (referee) ; Procházka, Martin (advisor)
Lambert Strether's position in The Ambassadors is, in my view, a metafictional allegory for James's techniques of authorial perspective. As Donald Stone notes, "It was James's contribution to fiction that [...] he not only codified the subjective nature of the novelist, but transformed the hero of fiction into a limited [...] observer."170 James effectively expresses his authorial consciousness in a novel that courts a more complicated delegation of positional plays between reader, author, and subject. Thus, I disagree with William Stowe's assertion that The Ambassadors' theme of "how life can and ought to be lived" presents problems for which neither the novel's subject nor author "has a solution, problems that challenge the reader to [sic] reexamine the very valuation of European experience which the texts seems also to be promoting."171 Considering James's formal virtuosity, it becomes clear that James has more to express to the reader than the "valuation of European experience."172 Indeed, I hope it has been made clear over these last pages that "the solution" for how "to live" is fixed in Jamesian aestheticism. James broadcasts a double perspective that simultaneously engages the aesthetic along the social fissures of modernity, producing "masterpieces of presentational technique"173 to cite Malcolm...

Rajhrad Altarpiece
Špinková, Tereza ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (referee)
English Summary: Rajhrad Altarpiece Rajhrad Altarpiece was made by bohemian painter in the first half of the fifteen century. To this day, it has been preserved six panels - two of them have been created for the width and they deal with the theme of Crucifixion and Christ Carrying the Cross. Other panels are composed for the height and they talked about the Last Supper, Prayer on the Mount of Olives and Resurrection. The last painting concerns about the Finding and Verification of Saint Cross. The altarpiece used to be dated around 1415-1430. Nowadays, Milena Bartlová, following the new archive material (which was discovered by Bohumil Zlámal, Ivo Hlobil a Kateřina Engstová), has changed the previous opinion. She moves the origin of the altarpiece towards the year 1452 and she suppose that the panels were originally intended for the church of St. Mauritz in Olomouc. Other explorers date these paintings by the year 1440. The author of Rajhrad Altarpiece came from the precedent style of painting which was characterized by the lyric moments, complicated draperies and far-away kind of faces. The artist completes this scheme by the interest in the action, structure of place and here and there, he is concerned in individual portraits. He is supposed to have seen this kind of "realistic" motives in the illuminated...

This bachelor thesis deals with Turkish-Greek relations portrayed in the novel "Birds without Wings" by Louis de Berniéres. It focuses not only on the events of the 20th century in the area of modern day Turkey, where Greeks and Turks used to live in harmony together, but also on the story of the individual inhabitants. These two parallel threads are associated with the universal topics such as war, nationalism, religion and multiculturalism.

Primary preventive care in orofacial clefts
Kaněrová, Hana ; Dušková, Markéta (advisor)
Facial clefts are among the most common congenital defects. Their incidence ranges 1 to 500 to 550 births. The etiological factors are diverse. Most often the formation of clefts cause genetic factors together with environmental factors. Among the genetic factors include the child's sex and genetic predisposition. It discovered several candidate genes that influence the development of orofacial complex. These genes are e.g. TGFα, RARA, BCl3, DLX2, MSX1, TGFB3. Environmental factors are maternal obesity, maternal smoking, alcohol consumption, alcohol, nutritional status of the mother, hypervitaminosis A, folic acid deficiency, effects of pollutants in the workplace and environment, medication teratogenic active drugs, maternal infection, hyperthermia, exposure to ionizing radiation and the effects of stress. The mechanism of the increased risk of defects in maternal obesity may be unknown diabetes with hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinismem, hyperestronismus a lack of folic acid, which is needed in obese women increased. Studies on the influence of maternal smoking on the formation of clefts are not consistent in their results. Alcohol consumption has been repeatedly shown to be a risk while no correlation was found to dose. Increased incidence is evident under fetal alcohol syndrome. The quality of maternal...

Options computed tomography with high resolution in the diagnosis pulmonary complications in haematological malignancies
Mírka, Hynek ; Kreuzberg, Boris (advisor) ; Neuwirth, Jiří (referee) ; Heřman, Miroslav (referee)
Value of HRCT in the diagnostics of pulmonary complications of malignant haematologic diseases. Early diagnosis is one of the essential conditions for successful therapy of heamatologic malignancies and their complications. Imaging methods play an important role in their detection and patient's management. HRCT is the most contributing method in the diagnostics of pulmonary involvement, which is very common in this group of patients. The aim of this thesis was to find out the potential of this method in the diagnostics of pulmonary complications in patients with haematologic malignancy. For this purpose were assessed 4 objectives: 1) comparison between HRCT and chest X-ray; 2) determination of capability of HRCT to make a specific diagnose; 3) definition of indication criteria for HRCT and 4) assignment of the suitable examination technique. In the time period from January 2000 until December 2005 were performed 214 HRCT examinations of the lungs in the group of 162 patients with haematological malignancy and pulmonary symptomatology. 176 examinations were compared with chest X-ray, which was performed 48 hours or less before HRCT. Pulmonary lesion was discovered in 180 cases (84,1%). 123 findings were confirmed by another method (response to a specific therapy, cultivation, serology, BAL or...

Public-private partnership and its possibility of usage in social services in Czech Republic

The Position of the EU to Nuclear Energy after Fukushima: Reactions of Germany and the Czech Republic
NEUMANNOVÁ, Nicole
The paper deals with the approach of the European Union or the approach of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic to the nuclear disaster in Fukushima. In the second, practical, part the German and Czech responses to the incident in Fukushima are deeply analyzed. The author follows the development of perception of nuclear power in both states and the consequent impact on the common relations between the two countries.

The French UMP and its Internal Structure
Vlková, Michaela ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
The creation of the UMP, as the "Union pour la Majorité Présidentielle", after the first round of the presidential election in 2002, began a new cycle for the French Right. It can be characterized as the refoundation of a party by merger. The merger proceeded from a long- established system of cooperation among parties at the legislative level. The main constitutive components of the new party were namely the conservative RPR (Rassemblement pour la République), the centre-right UDF (Union pour la Démocratie Française) and a former part of the UDF - DL (Démocratie Libérale) - which became independent in 1998. The principal motivation for the modification of the form of cooperation was the restoration of Jacques Chirac's authority over both his political camp and and the institution of the presidency. The UMP won both - legislative and presidential elections and started to govern. The internal structure of the new party can be understood in different ways and be distiguished into different levels. Firstly, from the point of view directed to its main components - political parties that made up the UMP's base and also other parties and groups that cooperate with the new party. The UMP brought to the end (or at least modified) the system of electoral cooperation that used to exist on the Right for more than two...
