Targeting and positioning in a presidential election campaign of Petr Pavel - young voters generation
Dejmková, Tereza ; Konrádová, Marcela (advisor) ; Shavit, Anna (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with targeting and positioning of the presidential election campaign of Petr Pavel and focuses mainly on addressing the youngest generation of voters, Generation Z. The 2023 presidential election was different in several ways, but one of them was, for example, the targeting of some candidates to Generation Z. The generation currently includes the majority of voters who participated in the presidential election for the first time, and who may also have followed it more closely for the first time. The aim of this thesis is therefore to find out to what extent the targeting and positioning of the campaign was adapted to Generation Z in the development of the strategy, and also to find out whether Petr Pavel was able to reach this target group through the campaign and through which steps he achieved this. The theoretical part of the thesis first describes and defines the tools of political marketing, characterizes Generation Z and the specifics of their voting behaviour. In the practical part of the thesis, the aforementioned tools of political marketing are applied to the campaign of Petr Pavel. The information for this part of the thesis was obtained from a personal interview with the marketing director of the Petr Pavel campaign, Martin Klčo, conducted by the author of the...
Comparative analysis of the communication strategies in chosen media of candidates for the presidential elections in 2023 in the second round
Suchomel, Jakub ; Zima, Michal (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
In this thesis, a comparative analysis of the communication strategies of the presidential candidates in the 2023 elections Ing. Andrej Babiš and arm. gen. v.v. Ing. Petr Pavel, M.A. is carried out. The work starts with a description of the election process. The AMI Digital Index 2022, which is a survey in the field of social networks, is presented. In the next chapter, the theoretical framework of the work is presented, starting with the characteristics of the examinated media. The following is a brief description of the course of presidential elections in the past. Then the process of data collection is described and the method of social network analysis is presented. The following are individual analyses of social networks. First, six analyses of Andrej Babiš's communication are presented, as well as Petr Pavel's. This is followed by a description of the most symbolic themes of the individual campaigns. The next part is devoted to the characteristics of the analysis of pre-election debates, and then the analyses themselves and their comparison are discussed. Before the very conclusion, the candidates' post-election communication processes are briefly described. The last part of the thesis is the conclusion, which contains the results of qualitative comparison and comparison of individual...
Geopolitical topics in Northern Ireland elections
Král, Josef ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Vrhel, Matěj (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to analyse and interpret the electoral manifestos of several Northern Irish political parties, namely the Democratic Unionist Party, Traditional Unionist Voice, Ulster Unionist Party, Sinn Féin, Social Democratic and Labour Party, People Before Profit and Alliance, in terms of the projection of geopolitical and globally significant social events, namely Brexit and the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland, the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, into the electoral manifestos of the parties in question. The thesis uses a combination of critical discursive analysis and content analysis to process the given electoral programmes. In terms of timing, these are documents drawn up by the parties for the Northern Ireland Assembly elections in May 2022. The importance of each issue for the parties in question, the frequency with which the issues appear in the programmes and the way in which the parties deal with the issues in their programmes are examined. The parties' attitudes to the issues, or the existence of consensus or cleavages within the Northern Irish political scene, are also examined. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on the theory of cleavage lines. The thesis has identified the projection of the aforementioned events into electoral...
Perception of the "culture wars" concept in American media
Šimek, Jan ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Charvát, Jakub (referee)
American society is going through an era of deep social and political divisions. At the forefront of this deepening divide are the so-called culture wars, an umbrella term for a set of narratives around cultural and social issues that both sides of the conflict use to advance their political goals. This thesis aims to determine how much space culture wars themes occupy in the production of selected American media outlets, how these themes are projected onto their audiences and how this influences the audience's trust in the mainstream media. The first part of the thesis presents the methodology used in collecting and evaluating the data used in the research for this thesis. The theoretical section also defines concepts and terms related to the topic of the thesis. The practical part of the thesis will then focus on the evaluation of the data from the questionnaire survey conducted among American media consumers between May and June 2023.
The Polish model of the populist party: a new perspective on the populist radical right
Greger, Vojtěch ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Guasti, Petra (referee)
The Polish model of the populist party: a new perspective on the populist radical right Master's thesis Bc. Vojtěch Greger Abstract The rise of the populist radical right (PRR), a group of parties critical of the established norms of Western liberal democracy, in the 2010s, manifesting itself in events such as Brexit or the illiberal takeover of Hungary, has been a subject of considerable attention both from academics and the general public, and has been viewed with great concern. Academic studies of the PRR have often elevated the nativist elements in such parties' rhetoric while paying considerably less attention to the economic appeals thereof. However, in recent years, literature highlighting the importance of economic deprivation in fomenting support for Eurosceptic and PRR movements has begun to appear. This thesis is predicated on this literature's argument that the electoral successes of the PRR are very often driven precisely by economic deprivation and the discontent stemming from it. To illustrate our argument, we examine the electoral support of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party in the 2015 and 2019 elections using ordinary least squares regression (OLS) and geographically weighted regression (GWR). Our findings show that structural economic factors, mainly the share of workers employed in...
Essays on political careers in the Czech Republic
Škvrňák, Michael ; Linek, Lukáš (advisor) ; Kouba, Karel (referee) ; Maškarinec, Pavel (referee)
This dissertation focuses on political careers in the Czech Republic. The in- troductory part of the dissertation presents several approaches for describing and explaining the development of political careers, ranging from the theory of rational choice through biographical approaches to an institutional view of the careers. After the theoretical introduction, four empirical chapters fol- low. They focus on particular aspects related to political careers. The first describes the candidate selection process in the Czech Pirate Party before the 2020 regional election and the 2021 parliamentary election and explains the success of individual nominees by their position within the party, personal at- tributes and political experience. This chapter uses the supply and demand model of candidate selection. The second empirical chapter focuses on local politics, specifically on the incumbency advantage. It shows that if a munici- pality publishes a municipal newsletter, incumbents, especially mayors, benefit from it. The following chapter focuses on coalition formation in Czech munici- palities, which is a process that determines which party will fill a mayor's office. The chapter shows that besides standard aspects of coalition formation, social capital of elected deputies plays a role in the process. In particular,...
Let the young vote: Potential effects of lowering the voting age on elections in Czechia
Čejka, Štěpán ; Palanský, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mošovský, Jan (referee)
Several countries throughout the world have already adopted a reform that enables younger voters, from 15 or 16 years old, to vote. This thesis examines the potential influence of including such voters in the Czech Republic on recent elections. A key feature of my work is that it combines several methods together to model the voter turnout of this age group. To estimate the potential voter turnout of the 15 to 17-year-old category we use fixed effects estimation, together with the exact numbers of citizens from the 2021 state Census and combine them together with the results of Student election that are held by the People in Need organization. The uniqueness of this thesis is that we model the voter turnout in every of the 76 Districts from the 2012 Region election until the 2021 Chamber of Deputies election. We particularly focus on the 2017 Chamber of Deputies and the 2018 Presidential elections both with very narrow outcomes. Finally, we estimate that the inclusion of the young voters most likely would not alter the results of neither election.
Amendment to electoral law into the Chamber of Deputies in 2021 and it's impacts
HLADÍKOVÁ, Barbora
The Bachelor's thesis "Change to the Electoral Law for The Chamber of Deputies in 2021 and their Impacts" explores the progression of the electoral law for the Chamber of Deputies from the formation of the independent Czech Republic to the present. This thesis aims to focus on the changes to the electoral law in 2021. The theoretical part draws from specialised literature and is devoted to the form of the electoral system for the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic from the early 1990s to the present. This thesis is mainly focused on the change in 2021, hence it includes the pre-election political situation, and particular changes that were approved, as well as all the impacts these changes had on the election results. The practical part consists of many calculations that show to what extent the changes in the electoral law affected the results of elections, specifically the allocation of each mandate among the participating parties. These calculations particularly compare the initial calculation based on the D'Hondt divisor and the new calculation based on the Imperiali quota.
