Michael Hauser, Ph.D. Abstract: There is no doubt that work is an important part of human existence and our lives, but it seems that now we are working more than ever before. Just a quick look on our everyday routine will confirm the following statement: work is invading all parts of our lives. Everything is somehow connected to work: we are working on ourselves, on our bodies, on our relationships and it significantly affects our perception of the world. The definition of work and what it implies has dramatically changed in the course of time and hence new challenges have appeared. In this paper I focus on some of these challenges such as the phenomenon of precariat, bullshit jobs, idleness at work, work as a center of human life and new anti- work movements. I am also trying to describe how these problems affects human beings, society and self-presentation of individuals. I also tried to problematize widely accepted idea about the importance of work in the contemporary late capitalistic society and also suggest few ideas how to improve work conditions and life of workers. Mentality of the Oppressed: An Analysis of Czech Inferiority Complex Towards the West

In this paper, we examine what we see as a Czech feeling of inferiority towards the western nations. Though the so-called post-communist syndrome seems to be a popular way to explain the negative self-perception of Czechs, we will argue that this phenomenon stems from the trauma, which Czechs experienced when transitioning from communism to the globalized capitalistic market. We believe that this trauma was brought about by the rhetoric of ''coming back to Europe'' as it is based on a heritage of orientalism in Europe, in combination with the general mentality of the oppressed, as thematized by the post-colonial theorists such as Franz Fanon or Paulo Freire. To verify our hypothesis, we conducted a survey with 189 respondents from all the regions of the Czech Republic.

The Spell Of an Unspoken Promise

The Spell Of The Unspoken Promise reflects a lack of presentation, a critical approach and insight into psychosomatic problems in the art education and society based on a capitalist economic system. It touches the issue of abuse of power in the non-hierarchical relationship in the institutional environment of art education, but also on a personal level. It records a gradual return to listening to own body and chronologically reveals events that had a direct effect on its impaired condition. To what extent and in what way does the body box reflects traumas, emotional experiences and fears? Through video essay, elements of poetic narration and textile objects, the work opens up a deeply sensitive subject reflecting the mechanical processes of the body. There are also overlaps with elements of holistic medicine and healing.

Evident and Hidden Manipulation in Political Speeches of Socialistic Era

This thesis is concerned with identifying and describing the linguistic elements of manipulative strategies of selected political speeches from 1948 till 1957. In the first part the work is focused on the principles of political communication, further persuasion and manipulation with respect to the relationship of these terms. In the next sections we find formal and functional description language means with regard to their pragmatic semantic components, mechanisms of propaganda and political line of reasoning. Knowledge of various aspects of language allows description of specific manipulative tendencies in political speeches and their burden in terms of evident and hidden action to the addressee.

Ecological modernization theory - facts and context. Historical perspective, conditions and limits of the neoliberal sustainability koncept Annotation: This diploma thesis deals with the synthesis of ideas of ecological modernization theory, which has been developing since the 80's of the 20th century particularly in Western Europe. The ecological modernization theory wants to explain, interpret and propose environmental reforms in conjunction with continued economical growth, industrial development and globalization. The ecological modernization theory argues that a continuous industrial development does not lead inevitably to environmental degradation, but rather provides the best possible way out of the environmental crisis. Although the ecological modernization theory is a relatively young concept, during the first thirty years of its existence has greatly expanded and diversified, gained countless supporters and opponents, provoked a number of debates and inspired many empirical studies. This development, however, has led not only to new findings but also resulted in a dilution of the ecological modernization theory, which thereby has become confusing, vague and inconsistent. Ideology of Liberalism, or Ideology after its own End

The essay begins with Benjamin`s comprehension of truth and his method of constellation which aims to the truth. I connect the method to the act of naming, which I derive from comprehension of subject in German idealism. Method is necessary condition for very constellation of liberal ideology. Contemporary liberalism thus does not only symbolize time after "the end ideology", but even space of time, when the ideology acquire its own most effective form. "The truth became most effective form of lie." In this sense I continue in critique of postmodernism as the ideology of late capitalism. In fine I outline the way to postmodernism by force of "risk thinking" which remains faithful to dialectic. Solely immanent critique which is far from normative critique of postmodernism sets in motion rigid conditions caused by omnipresent ideology.

New Capitalism as a Cause and a Result of Effectivization of Society

Given the breadth of the concept of new capitalism and possible topics that present themselves here, the main objective of this work is especially presentation of new capitalism as reflected in sociological literature and reference to its highly efficient nature. The work is also a reflection on key topics opened by leading theoreticians of contemporary capitalism. Using Weberian sociology, the work seeks to capture the development of capitalism and to grasp new contemporary capitalism. The development of capitalism is described by the development of three important aspects that appear early in modern capitalism which are important during its whole history up to the present. It is the development of the phenomenon of work, consumption and time. For these three phenomena, the presented work deals in particular with their tendency to become increasingly more efficient. Efficiency is part of the rationalization process; the work uses a more suitable term for contemporary Euro-American society - effectivization (efficiency boost of society), due to its ubiquity and topicality, and also due to the fact that current changes are being legitimized under the designation of efficiency. Linguistic formulation of propaganda in the press in the time of former Czechoslovakia

The goal of this thesis is to identify specific language elements in selected opinion pieces that appeared in Rudé právo newspaper over the course of 1975. The first part of the thesis examines terms such as persuasion, propagandism and manipulation, and considers the interrelations between these terms. Following sections of the paper are devoted to the characterization of distinct elements of persuasion as traced in diverse articles of Rudé právo. In a pragmatic perspective, the thesis describes such linguistic attempts at manipulating the reader as means to praise the communist regime or to defame its adversaries.
