Cultural intelligence and its concept in foreign language teaching

The aim of the paper Cultural Intelligence and its concept in foreign language teaching is to introduce theoretical concept of Cultural intelligence created by Earley and Ang in 2003 and to place it in the context of foreign language teaching. The paper presents a review of research on cultural intelligence and foreign language teaching conducted in the last three years, which can be obtained from the electronic resources of the Library of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University in Prague. The topic is developed in three main chapters - theoretical background, the concept of cultural intelligence and the concept of cultural intelligence in foreign language teaching. This paper serve mainly as an introduction to the issue and inspiration for further research in the field of cultural intelligence and foreign language teaching.
Artistic creation as the possibility of intercultural understanding

The thesis is devoted to the topics of multicultural and intercultural education. The aim of the thesis is to illustrate the cross-sectional theme of multicultural education and its shift to intercultural education. The aim of the empirical part is to contribute to intercultural understanding through a thematic series of art assignments with intercultural content. In the reflective balances of past art blocks, the research probe uses the open coding method to find answers to research questions. The author's own collection, presenting the pupil's final work, forms part of every artistic assignment carried out.
Mapping approaches of youth drop-in centres and outreach social services to xenophobia and racism among adolescents

The thesis concentrates on Approaches of youth drop-in centers and outreach services towards xenophobia and racism among teenagers. It deals with topics, such as xenophobia, racism, situation of Czech society concerning these two issues and the legal view point towards it. It describes the period of growing up, what features and reasons of xenophobia and racism appear among the teenage group. It characterizes a growing up person as a user of social services. The thesis describes inspirational approaches of multicultural education heading towards development of tolerance, possibilities of education and approaches to xenophobia and racism of various organizations. Further on, it gives a number of examples of experiences from several other European countries. It introduces social services of youth drop-in centers and outreach services. It mainly deals with approaches of both services towards working with teenage clients who show signs of xenophobia and racism. The practical part of the thesis discovers approaches of social workers of various youth drop-in centers and outreach services in the Czech Republic towards xenophobia and racism among teenager clients. Challenges of integration of foreign pupils at primary schools

This thesis deals with the theme of integration and education of foreign pupils at primary schools. Further, it presents the findings which are connected with this theme. It focuses on classification of challenges and problems which can occur when the pupil starts to attend a school in a foreign country, and tries to find possible solutions and preventive measures as well. It has been confirmed that teachers see positive contribution of a foreign pupil in the class but they also admit and express concerns about insufficient preparedness and the lack of materials for work with the foreign pupils. The empirical part of this paper analyses three case studies which have been made thanks to observation of the foreign pupils and thanks to interviews with their class teachers. This part also concerns with teachers' opinions and their view of the challenges that are brought up by the presence a foreign pupil. The outcome of the thesis is a set of sample work sheets intended for foreign pupils. These worksheets are compatible with the textbooks for teaching Czech language which are commonly used at primary schools. Aplication of multicultural education in day nursery school

The diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of the application of multicultural education in nursery school through ethnic music. The theoretical part deals with clarifying of basic terms of the multicultural education, it describes personal and interpersonal development of the personality of a child in a pre-school age and possibilities of the development of the cooperation in a child group. it is also focused on the importance of music during accepting of differences of children and people. The practical part analysis statistic information of questionnairies for teachers in nursery schools. It also tries to find out the actors which influence the application of multicultural education in nursery schools in Moravian-Silesian region. It also introduces the pedagogical project focused on the possibility of the use of ethnic music for development of cooperation and accepting the differences by children.
Racial predjudices and stereotypes in education

This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of prejudices and stereotypes in education. The theoretical part deals with origin and spread of prejudices and stereotypes, practical examples of these terms and also possible forms of prevention in education. The last chapter, following the practical part, addresses the role of a teacher as a personality as well as a member of pedagogical staff when working with these phenomena. The practical part, containing in-depth interviews, focuses on concrete opinions of teachers as personalities with their own experiences as well as members of pedagogical staff, which are pivotal to development of students' moral values. I concentrate on their personal attitudes and consequent work with these attitudes in teaching. Implementation of the multicultural education and attitudes of teachers to the multicultural education

This diploma thesis deals with attitudes of teachers towards the introduction of the multicultural education within the curriculum reform of the regional system of education in the Czech Republic. The thesis then deals also with the course of implementation of the multicultural education in practice and with attitudes of teachers towards further training in this area. Since teachers are the key persons involved in the implementation of education policy, their attitude is crucial for successful implementation of the multicultural education. The methodology is based on the qualitative data analysis obtained from interviews with teachers. There are three main theoretical resources followed in this thesis, belief systems of Paul A. Sabatier, the theory of street-level bureaucracy of Michael Lipsky and multicultural education theories. Teachers have positive attitudes to the multicultural education. But some have their own prejudices against other ethnic groups. Although teachers understand positively their autonomy in the implementation of the multicultural education in practice, they express the need for certain rules in the implementation of the multicultural education.
