Changes in coverage of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict in TV Nova's main news bulletin from February 2022 to February 2023

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the media portrayal of the war Ukraine in the main newscast of TV Nova, namely in the evening news session Televizní noviny. The thesis will describe how the conflict evolved within the course of a year in the specified television program and how the television covered the progress of the war at the beginning and after a year of its duration. Through content analysis, the thesis primarily focuses on the news that provided people with current information about the war and the events of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. It examines the frequency of news reports on Ukraine as well as their length and placement as they were featured in TV Nova's most watched newscast during the first year of the war. Depending on this, the theoretical part of the thesis will deal with Czech television news and on what principles it works, research dealing with people's relationship to the media, etc. TV Nova will be described with an emphasis on news and their news session Televizní noviny, which is currently the most watched evening news session in the Czech Republic. The change of narrative in the context of Ukrainian war refugees

This thesis deals with the dynamics between the political and media narrative about Ukrainian refugees and its influence on the formation of migration policy in the Czech Republic. In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, the Czech Republic became the scene of a large-scale refugee crisis, which caused various reactions both in the media and in the Chamber of Deputies. To solve this issue, the Narrative Policy Framework (NPF) was used, which enables the analysis of narratives and their influence on the political process. Media and political narratives were analysed between 24 February 2022 and the end of March 2023. The research found that narratives about Ukrainian refugees gradually changed from positive solidarity and empathy to concerns about the economic impact of the refugee crisis and negative framing of refugees. The main outcome of this work is that narratives have a significant influence in the political process and that it has changed over the examined period.

Ukrainian War Communication via Social Media

The diploma thesis examines the role of social media in war communication, focusing on digital diplomacy and crisis communication tactics, specifically the use of digital platforms by Ukrainian diplomatic and governmental actors during the ongoing conflict with Russia. The main objective of the thesis is to systematically examine Ukrainian wartime communication using thematic-content analysis as the primary methodological approach. The study reveals in detail the prevalent communication strategies used by selected Ukrainian official profiles on social network X and the consistency across these accounts in the use of strategic communication. By detailing the application of the strategies of action mobilization, story construction, and emotional appeal, the thesis offers actionable insights for improving communication strategies during conflict. Moreover, the results highlight the transformative role of digital platforms in shaping public opinion and influencing international discourse during crises. The investigation sheds light on the strategic implementation of digital media in international relations and crisis management and offers an understanding of effective communication practices that could enhance the effectiveness of future diplomatic efforts and the efficiency of crisis communication.

The media system of Ukraine and its transformation in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian War

The thesis focuses on the Ukrainian media, the Ukrainian media system and its transformation especially in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The aim of the thesis is to describe and to understand the transformations of the media system along with it the trends among Ukrainian media consumers. In the introductory part of the thesis, the historical-political context of the country and its ideological and political fragmentation are explained. The developments in the country are characterised through the lens of different presidencies, which quite plausibly symbolize the direction of the country in time. The paper summarizes important approaches in the field of comparative media studies. The dominant media outlets in Ukraine and their ownership structure are described. The analytical part of the work focuses on the development of the Ukrainian media system from 2019 to 2023; an analytical framework for characterizing the media system in a wartime context is introduced (with an emphasis on audiences); the criteria embedded in Hallin and Mancini's typology are combined with criteria focusing on trust in the media and its development; and current Ukrainian media system is categorised according to Hallin and Mancini's original typology.

The Party of Regions as an instrument of Russian soft power

The bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the pro-Russian Party of Regions in the context of Russian soft power and the promotion of Russian interests in Ukraine. The bachelor thesis is dedicated to demonstrating Russia's influence on the Party of Regions and the party's efforts to represent a pro-Russian position. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on the theory of soft power of the American political scientist J. Nye. Last but not least, the thesis will examine the Party of Regions' position on selected issues where Russian interest was present, especially on issues related to the expansion of the status of the Russian language and support for an oriented Russian Orthodoxy. In the context of the support for the Russian narrative, I will approach the Party of Regions' governance in the period 2010-2014. The practical part of the paper discusses the party's position on the issues outlined. The paper uses a qualitative approach, in particular content analysis of data. The thesis attempts to determine whether the functioning of the Party of Regions as an instrument of Russian soft power can be identified and how the Party of Regions as an instrument of soft power functioned.

War communicated to children in kindergarten through a story

Master's thesis titled "The Theme of War Mediated to Children in Kindergarten through Story" addresses the issue of preschool children affected by the war situation in Ukraine. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on insights discussing the inclusion of a child with a different native language in preschool education, on children from Ukraine in Czech kindergartens, and on understanding the relationships between Ukraine and Russia. The final section of the theoretical framework focuses on working with books in kindergarten and processing the theme of war through storytelling in kindergarten. Three main objectives are set for the practical part, corresponding to the primary intention of the thesis, which is to verify how to work with selected children's literature within the inclusion of children from Ukraine affected by the war situation in Ukraine. The individual objectives address perspectives on the theme of war and how to work with it in kindergarten from the viewpoint of 80 preschool teachers and three selected experts. Based on the data obtained from the questionnaire survey and individual in-depth interviews, three lessons focused on introducing the theme of war to children in kindergarten through children's publications were developed. Comparison of the tax system in the Czech Republic and Ukraine

The bachelor thesis focuses on depicting the tax systems in the Czech Republic and Ukraine. The theoretical part addresses the characteristics of the tax systems in both countries. The practical part is dedicated to specific differences between the tax systems, including the effectiveness of tax rates, tax obligations, deductions, and exemptions. It describes the impacts of these differences on personal income tax, self-employed individuals, employer costs for employees, and property tax in each country.

Social work with citizens from Ukraine who have temporary protection status in the Czech Republic

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of social work with Ukrainian citizens who came to the Czech Republic after the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The thesis contains a theoretical and practical part. The first chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the relations between Russia and Ukraine - it describes the situation after the independence of Ukraine and before the outbreak of the war in 2022. In the following chapters, the status of temporary protection, the characteristics of its users and the description of social work with refugees as a target group are presented. In this section, the needs of the target group, the principles of social work with refugee clients, the objectives of cooperation are introduced, and then the role of the social worker is defined, which should also be introduced to new clients with whom the worker establishes a relationship. The theoretical part is concluded with a chapter dealing directly with the social services that the target group can use with their status. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to research conducted with twelve Ukrainian refugees, which was carried out in cooperation with several institutions and services in České Budějovice. At the very beginning of the research, the issue of anonymity of the respondents proved to be crucial. Respondents often expressed concern that the answers would not be passed on to social service providers, for example, or could not be linked to the information they gave me - especially those expressing dissatisfaction or suggestions for improvement. Due to the specific nature of the research population, the specific names of organisations and service providers are not given in the thesis and a planned interview process was used with each respondent, particularly in terms of how responses were recorded. In particular, the research focused on whether and, if necessary, what social services this group of clients uses, whether they have sufficient awareness of their options in this area, what changes they would appreciate and what obstacles they most often encounter when cooperating with social services and during their everyday life.
