Lower secondary school pupil with special educational needs in the social studies class: a case study
Sedláková, Anna ; Dvořák, Dominik (advisor) ; Straková, Jana (referee)
This thesis studies the functioning of pupils with special educational needs in mainstream lower secondary schools. The special focus is on social studies classes. The teaching/learning processes are described within the broader context of education, which includes mainly parents or legal guardians, teachers and teaching assistants. The theoretical part describes the legal framework of inclusion in the Czech Republic and previous research on the role of teaching assistants. The empirical part uses the qualitative approach. Several cases are presented based on analysis of documents, interviews and observations. The data were compared across the cases. The results suggest that there is a difference between the lessons of social studies and the classes of the "core subjects". The teaching assistants are available in the social studies classes only rarely. Given the mixed effects of the teaching assistants on learning and socialization of the special needs pupils, this situation might have both positive and negative impact. System to manage quality of educational work in Japan as an inspiration for the Czech Republic
Kitaba, Katsura ; Straková, Jana (advisor) ; Kohoutek, Jan (referee)
Abstract...
The influence of shared custody on the child's school success in primary school
Dvořáková, Kateřina ; Straková, Jana (advisor) ; Valenta, Josef (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is the influence of joint custody on school successfulness of a child. In the theoretical part I describe a contemporary family and major functions of the family. I chart the situation of legislation in the Czech Republic, I deal with circumstances how the Czech courts make a decision about commiting children into parental care after a divorce of their parents and whether the number of children being involved in joint custody increases. I am really interested in the fact whether the courts make a decision based on the child needs. Following this part I focus on the definition of school successfulness of children and the behaviour of younger learners. I indicate the factors that could have an influence on school successfulness. In the practical part I present the results of my qualitative research. I explore the influence of joint custody into child school successfulness from the point of view of class teachers. I survey the behaviour of children who live in joint custody after the divorce of parents and I also take an interest into the fact whether the class teacher have noticed any features that could connect these children.
How Pupils and Their Parents Evaluate its Transfer to Multi-year Gymnasium?
Slanařová, Jana ; Greger, David (advisor) ; Straková, Jana (referee)
The multi-year gymnasium is a part of the Czech educational system for the long time. Those gymnasiums are one of the most discussed institutions in terms of usefulness. Various studies are made in dependence on that trying to find reasons for choosing multi-year gymnasiums (as thesis "Why Do Primary School Children Choose Multi-year Gymnasiums?", which preceded this work). The aim of this diploma thesis is already the next step: figuring out, if gymnasium met pupils' expectations, and also to receive feedback and evaluation of their parents. It focuses on pupils' academic self-concept, on problems associated with transfer to multi-year gymnasium and on positives, which the pupils would not probably meet at elementary school with. The Influence of the Teacher's Feedback on Student's Motivation in Lessons
Mazúchová, Ráchel ; Straková, Jana (advisor) ; Kasíková, Hana (referee)
The thesis deals with the phenomenon of feedback which the teacher provides to upper primary students in lessons and this feedback's influence on students' motivation to learn. The feedback is regarded from different points of view: as an assessment of students in lessons and as work with an error. The aim of this work is also to describe the mechanism by which teachers provide feedback to pupils in microsphere of tutorial dialogue at school. The object of the research is primarily the character of this feedback; the thesis tries to answer the question what information students receive about their achievement, whether and how this information affects the students' motivation in the classroom. Two, respectively three methods have been combined at the empirical part of the research: observation, an audio recording of lessons and explorative technique of semi-structured interview, which was conducted with students from the lessons. In the following research study all manifestations of teacher's feedback in the teaching situation have been categorized: the method here is the observation of lessons again, an audio recording of the lessons and semi-structured interview. Using the information gathered in the focus discussions with students I try to relate the observed types of teacher's feedback with...

Primary school choice - an important mechanism influencing equity in education
Simonová, Jaroslava ; Straková, Jana (advisor) ; Veselý, Arnošt (referee) ; Šeďová, Klára (referee)
Primary school choice - an important mechanism influencing equity in education Jaroslava Simonová Abstract This dissertation describes the process of school choice in primary education and the factors influencing it. Using a qualitative grounded theory design, the work builds on data from 41 interviews with parents from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Parents' decision-making about school choice is shaped primarily by the organizational needs of parents and their inner need to be a "good parent". When being interviewed, parents report a number of criteria, which, according to them, are important in school choice. However, for many of them they fail to obtain relevant and reliable information. Therefore, they may eventually make a decision based on criteria other than those referred to as important, although they are rarely aware of this shift and the change in criteria. There are three unavoidable criteria in decision-making: availability, reputation and the emotions that parents experienced at school during their visit. The child's needs are the important intervening conditions. They play an important role, especially if the parents feel that their child has some particular needs. The parents' experience with the education system and their personality characteristics are also important. The significant...
