Czech protectorate press in Reinhard Heydrich era
Renčínová, Pavla ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Kryšpínová, Jitka (referee)
A total power over the Czech official print became an integral part of the Nazis' policy during the Second World War. The print in all occupied countries should have served as one of the most important means by which the Nazis wanted to promote their ideology. Reinhard Heydrich, who came to the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia in autumn 1941, at first needed Czech people to cooperate for war industry. He was ready doing anything to achieve it. There were some journalists who /for various reasons/ helped him a lot. They did not only administratively execute his instructions but also took part in many fascist agitations. They had close connections with Gestapo and occupation authorities. On regular press conferences they were given instructions how to inform about what 's happening in the protectorate as well as on the battle field. As the result, they were responsible for many people's lives and fates and meant a great danger for whole nation. Besides these loyal quislings there were a number of such journalists who cooperated with the Czech resistance and exile in London. More than a hundred of them were executed or died in concentrate camps. London radio broadcasting showed how little people believed in the official protectorate print. Although the Nazis were quite successful in threatening the Czech...

CEZ's affair from the point of view of Czech and Bulgarian press
Kraevská, Markéta ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Hanzal, Jaromír (referee)
The diploma thesis The CEZ affair from the perspective of the Czech and Bulgarian press deals with the media portrayal of the unrests in Bulgaria in February and March 2013, which were caused by the high prices for electricity that had been supplied, among others, by the parastatal Czech company CEZ. This company became a symbol of the protests. The basis for the analysis and comparison consists of the Czech dailies Mladá fronta Dnes, Právo, Hospodářské noviny and the Bulgarian dailies Trud, 24 chasa and Standart. The reference period is February 2013, when the protests began and subsequently culminated at the end of the month. This work aims to describe how the whole affair was depicted in selected examples of Czech and Bulgarian press. Subsequently, these two approaches are compared. In addition to the analysis, the thesis also touches the topic of modern history of Bulgaria and an outline of Czech-Bulgarian relations. The individual periodicals used for the analysis, as well as the energetical concept of Bulgaria are introduced in order to achieve easier understanding of the entire problem.

Slunečková, Karin ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
This thesis tackles the onset of normalisation in Czechoslovak Television between 1969-1975. Firstly the author introduces the reader to the subject through the historical context. Above all, the thesis focuses on dramatic changes that affected Czechoslovak Television in that era. Further, the thesis is dedicated to one of main players and representatives of normalisation in Czechoslovak media, general director of Czechoslovak Television Jan Zelenka, who remained in office between years 1969 and 1989. The author uses not only published sources, but also internal documents and databases of Czechoslovak Television and documents from the National Archive. In the analytical part of the thesis the author describes the function and structure of Ideological Thematic Plans which served as a foundation document for the TV broadcasting for one year to the next. Using the Ideological Thematic Plan of 1973 the author analyses their content. The author carries out an in-depth analysis of three TV programmes chosen from the Ideological Thematic Plan of 1973. These programmes represent three different genres - a broadcast targeting the young Through Young Eyes (Mladýma očima), a television series of nine episodes Mother (Matka), and a feature film, And Give My Love to the Swallows (…a pozdravuj vlaštovky)....
Transfer and interpretation. Expatriation of Czechoslovak citizens of German birth 1945-1947 and its accounts in daily newspaper
Klimeš, David ; Bednařík, Petr (referee) ; Kubů, Eduard (advisor)
The aim of my thesis is to analyze the transfer of the Gennan people as covered by the daily press, which was both partisian and officially considered not to be under the influence of the political parties. Among such newspapers were Právo lidu, Svobodné Slovo, Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie, Svobodné noviny, Práce, Zemědělsé noviny, Svobodné československo (Obrana lidu), Mladá fronta and Národní osvobození. In fact, most of these "independent" newspapers were under control of the Communist Party. Resettlement of the Germans was one of the most important issues discussed by the Czech cabinet after the W orld War II. The transfer of the Gennans was obviousl y a genuine wish of the maj ority of the Czech people. However, following the first revolutionary months, a variety of opinions was being expressed on this issue. The Communists wanted to use the resettlement as a political instrument. Naturally, they were in favor of a total transfer of the Germans. On the other hand, other political powers expressed more moderate views, such as the catholic People's Party. The debate was broadly covered by the newspapaers. The media offered greater variety of perspective. There was a strong censorship by the establishment as well as by the journalists themselves, and no one dared to stand against the Košický program...

Fuksová, Veronika ; Benda, Josef (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
Diploma thesis called The Role of the media in shaping public opinion on the course of criminal proceedings deals with the issue which lies on the border between legal and media science. Its aim is to explain the relationship between these two areas on the basis of criminal proceedings, both in theory and practice using real criminal cases. Diploma thesis primarily deals with the legal base of the media and its relationship to some important principles of criminal law, namely the principle of presumption of innocence and the principle of public prosecutions. The principle of presumption of innocence and its violation affects the personal rights of offended person, so this work is also focused on comments relating to the personality protection against unauthorized interference which may occur in the context of criminal proceedings, both by the authorities involved in criminal proceedings as well as from the media. For the media sector there are some typical legal institutes correcting such interference which are presented in this thesis as well. As already mentioned, the thesis has practical dimension within which there are four essential criminal cases of 2015 examined through different media platforms that informed about these cases. The final section summarizes the findings which were achieved in...

Kobulejová, Hana Karolina ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Krejcar, Robert (referee) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The presented rigorous thesis aims to analyse the structural transformation of press and the subsystem of the regional as well as local press in terms of mutual connections by means of explanatory and methodological research. The subsystem characteristics are based on the content, formal and geographical concepts; the connections with the system level are clarified. The developmental trends at the micro and macro level enable to monitor the changes of the media landscape after 1989. The transformation process is divided into phases and diversity encountered in transition countries is explained. Macro-level and micro-level factors of structural transformation are analysed in detail. The concept of the system microclimate enabled to monitor the sub-media as well as media space in the context of intermediary system. This causal link is an integral part of the transformation process, which is why the finding of a common ground between the social environment and subsystem of the regional and local press promotes the understanding of the observed characteristics and also creates its own microclimate for the new resulting concepts. The most significant social impacts of structural transformations are shown in the transfer semantics. The methodological part enabled to anchor the research for subsequent...
Bedtime story and sleep! Regulating the use of television in raising children under 6 years of age
Švecová, Martina ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The rigorous thesis "Bedtime story and sleep! Regulating the use of television in raising children under 6 years of age", describes the way and intensity of how parents regulate children's TV viewing. However, since a TV set (as an object) in our households is not the only displaying device and television (as an institution) is not the only broadcaster of television contents, this thesis also includes watching TV programmes on other displaying devices such as computer, tablet, laptop and smartphone, which are connectable to the Internet. The chosen target group are children from 0 to 6 years of age. The thesis is based on two hypotheses. Firstly, parents use TV as a babysitter, and do so for various reasons. The second hypothesis assumes that parents do not pay attention to the time and type of programmes that children watch, even at a very early age when children are most vulnerable. The theoretical part consists of two chapters. The first chapter describes the position and importance of a TV set (as an object), television (as an institution) and television programmes (as watched audiovisual contents) in our households, and deals with the influence of television on the socialisation of the child in the family. The second chapter describes both positive and negative influences of media (television...

I will focus on the preparation process, the work with the archive materials, the way of realization or the importance of his work for the Czech public as such. There are interviews with the close colleagues of Mr Caslavsky as part of the study.
Generating meaning of popular texts demonstrated on the czech television serial Místo nahoře
Fričová, Michaela ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The starting point of this piece of work is proposition that television and its texts are an agent of the dominant ideology in society. Through the princip of hegemony the rulling class imposes its meanings and values on the subordinated classes. Hegemony is based on allowing resistent and alternative meanings which are nevertheless articulated in terms of the dominant ideology and are subsequently incorporated into the existing system. This thesis then follows John Fiske's understanding of popular culture and activated texts . These are texts which do not imp lose one limited meani ng on its readers, but which allow its readers by means of various strategies to interpret the text with regards to their social position. The second part of this work includes semiological analysis of a particular product of popular culture - the television serial Misto nahore. The emphasis is put on the process of encoding - how the dominant meanings and values are encoded and implied in the text. Besides, the attention is directed towards the 'opening' strategies of the text. This section also includes an analysis of the secondary texts (newspaper and magazine articles ) and terciary texts (viewers' reacti ons and opinions on the web). I examine whether the sec ondary texts promote dom inant or resistant reading strategies,...
