School and extracurricular programs to support children's reading in Belgium

This diploma thesis is about the problematic of children's reading and analyses the way the French speaking part of Belgium supports it. The introduction part of the thesis presents the Belgian primary school's system and introduces us to the main political competencies in Belgium. After that, the next chapter is about children's literature. On one hand, it approaches this kind of literature from the historical point of view and, on the other hand it is focused on the content of this literature. Follow a subchapter about reading's habits and about the different factors that have an influence on children's reading literacy. It mentions the role that play the school and the family to support children's reading. The third chapter presents a certain number of Belgian projects that support children's reading. Most of them are applied on a state basis. The fourth and last chapter is about the situation in the Czech Republic. It also looks at the way Belgium and Czech Republic could inspire each other in this area. The conclusion of the diploma thesis summarizes the content of the work and proposes a direction of further reflection.
Reading literacy of primary school children : educational programmes influence

The thesis on the theme "Reading literacy of primary school children: educational programmes influence" is focused on reading literacy, its development and influence of the educational programmes. First chapter is devoted to theoretical analysis of reading literacy. Next chapter discusses about resources and options of reading literacy development and also about the role of parents, libraries and schools in this process. Third chapter deals with the topic of alternative education and methods of teaching reading. Fourth chapter describes the research of the educational programmes influence on reading literacy. Final chapter is focused on cooperation of library and schools in the town of Kladno, analyzes the shortcomings and brings in the possibilities of development.
Environments and projects that support children's reading

The thesis deals with a support of children's reading. The work is aimed to factors and actors influencing reading education. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. Primarily there are explained two important terms related to the topic - reading and a reader. Further it is proceeding by attention given to different phases of reading education before and during school attendance. Primarily three environments influencing reading literacy were observed. These include family, school and public library. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are shortly presented at this thesis as well. The second part is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague, specifically Smichov branch and its activities. In this part are charted various programmes for children. Repeated activities for parents with children or for children alone are observed. Also, events for groups of preschool and school children are described. The important part of presented work deals with survey of cooperation between Smichov branch and local schools. The research results are to determine practical experience of teachers from these schools in activities of Smichov branch and in their cooperation with this library.
The Impact of the Economic Crisis on the Work of Regional Libraries in the Czech Republic

(in English): The thesis describes the current economic crisis, to which the Government responded by a set of restrictive measures of public finance. The main attention is paid to the research whether the current financial crisis and government austerity measures influenced the activities of the regional libraries in the Czech Republic and whether they compromised the quality of services provided to the public. The introductory chapter briefly describes the activities of the regional libraries, the most important legislative documents, defines standards of public information services and the development concept. The next chapter is focused on the theoretical definition of the financial crisis and its typology, summarizes its reasons and its historical context. The third chapter briefly approaches the main cases of the current financial crisis in the United States and its impact on European markets, the course of the financial crisis in the United Kingdom and how it influenced the public library sector. The next chapter briefly describes the financing of the public sector in the Czech Republic with a focus on libraries, the current financial crisis in the Czech Republic and the political development in the country since 2006. Educational aspects of information science and information profession

Ph.D. thesis focuses on information science and information profession issues related to the education. Information literacy and information education development in the environment of various information institutions appears to be one of the crucial topics. Educational aspects of the information science are placed in the context of other scientific disciplines and the need of an interdisciplinary discussion and cooperation is emphasized. A theoretical background of the Ph.D. thesis is built on studies originating not only from the information science, but also from philosophy, theory of cultural institutions and education. The new concepts are defined, describing roles and competences of teaching librarians. The role of information professionals in school and academic libraries is described in detail. Educational activities in the information industry environment are mentioned as well. The closing chapter focuses on LIS education and the way library schools prepare their graduates to provide education and instruction. Conclusions are supported by the analysis of surveys performed. The results of relevant projects are described.
Association of Libraries of Czech Universities: inception, structure and present determination

Bakalářská práce se zabývá oblastí vysokoškolského knihovnictví. Úvodní část stručně popisuje prostředí vysokoškolských knihoven v historickém vývoji. Druhá část zachycuje okolnosti vzniku Asociace knihoven vysokých škol České republiky (AKVŠ) a tuto organizaci blíže formálně charakterizuje. Dále uvádí legislativu, která je spjata s vysokoškolskými knihovnami. Třetí část popisuje organizační strukturu AKVŠ včetně činnosti jejích tří odborných komisí. Čtvrtá část se zaměřuje na spolupráci dalších organizací s AKVŠ, které blíže představuje. V předposlední části jsou vypsány hlavní cíle, které si AKVŠ vytýčila do budoucna nebo ve kterých bude pokračovat, a v závěru je vysloveno přání, aby AKVŠ byla i nadále oporou pro knihovny vysokých škol.
History and quality of the Most Beautiful Czech Book Contest from the point of view of evaluation committee and responses of period press

in English: This bachelor thesis deals with the Most Beautiful Czech Book Contest press evaluations between 1966 and 1990, also regarding the overall quality of Czechoslovak book design, typography and polygraphy. Summarization of the historical development is carried out by analyzing relevant specialized and nonspecialized periodicals. The work is divided into theoretical and historical context of the issue, the analysis itself and a brief biographical introduction to Oldřich Hlavsa, Milan Hegar, Jiří Rathouský and Adolf Hoffmeister, the four masters of Czechoslovak book design and typography.
Starting Reader and Information Literacy in the Municipal Library of Prague - library Smíchov and Barrandov

(in English): Work Starting Reader and Information Literacy in the Municipal Library of Prague - library Smíchov and Barrandov aims to describe and compare the work with starting readers and conduct information education starting readers in accordance with the framework educational programs in the older central city of Prague 5-Smíchov and newer housing estate on the outskirts of Prague 5 in Barrandov. Comparator library Smíchov and Barrandov among the branches of the Municipal Library in Prague. From a comparison of these libraries work is based on methodical instructions for working with starting readers, which rely on the conclusions from interviews conducted by teachers and educators catchment primary schools and kindergartens, as well as with parents beginning readers.
Chances of employment of people with visual handicap in libraries

The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyze the possibilities of employing visually handicapped people in a library environment in the Czech Republic and to suggest possible library occupations suitable for these people. The thesis is divided into several chapters. After the introduction there follows a general background to this topic which is followed by chapters dealing with vocational training and employment of visually impaired people in libraries. In the following chapter there is presented a questionnaire research which was carried out within selected libraries. The aim of the questionnaire research was to determine the state of employing visually impaired people in libraries in the Czech Republic and to explore future possibilities in this area. In the conclusion of the thesis there are suggested library occupations suitable for visually impaired people.
