Social work with people with Alzheimer's disease

The thesis concerns mapping and analysing the home-based health care for people affected by Alzheimer's disease and focuses especially on coping with the role of a caregiver. Alzheimer's disease is a serious social and medical topical issue as the number of people suffering from this disease is constantly increasing and our society is yet unable to clearly identify its cause. The thesis is dived into two parts. The theoretical part describes the disease itself, the care about people with Alzheimer's disease, and social work with people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and their families. For the practical part I chose to carry out a research survey conducted through interviews with home carers.

Support for caregivers in the home environment

The aim of the bachelor's thesis is understand the issues and the burden of caregivers in the home environment. The goal is to find out what services caregivers use, or why they don´t use them. And what services would they possibly use. Whether these social services meet the needs of families. The research was done through semi-structured interviews with caregivers from the small town named Votice.

Specifics of a family with a handicapped child

The diploma thesis is focused on researching the impact of a disabled child on the family from birth to adulthood and follows the specifics of a family with a disabled child. It is about the effect on the family as a whole, as well as the effect on individual family members and the relationships between them. An important aspect is also the impact on the formation of relationships between siblings and relatives, as well as the influence on the social environment of the family. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with basic concepts such as family and its functions and factors affecting it, disability, types and consequences of disability. In the practical part, the work focuses on researching the impact of a disabled child on the family from birth to adulthood. The goal of this work was the best possible understanding of the impact of the arrival of a disabled child in the family and the impact of the newly created situation on family members. The main topic is to focus on their states and reactions in the individual stages of life with a disabled child and to find out how and in what form it is possible to help eliminate the negative effects of a disabled child on individual family members and their own lives. Ethical principles of mentoring as social support of young people

Youth mentoring involves matching a young person who may be experiencing social, economic, or personal challenges with a volunteer mentor who serves as a positive role model, providing guidance, support, and encouragement. The mentoring relationship usually lasts for a specific period, such as a year or more, and may involve regular meetings or activities between the mentor and mentee. The goal of youth mentoring is to assist young people in developing the skills, confidence and resilience they need to overcome obstacles, challenges and achieve their full potential. This diploma thesis explores the ethics of mentoring, specifically in the context of formal youth mentoring. The primary focus of the work is centered around ethical aspects of mentoring as a means of providing social support to young individuals who are facing social exclusion. The main objective of this thesis is to examine how mentoring can provide positive social support to young individuals during times of transition, taking into account the ethical principles of mentoring and the impact of relationships on the well-being of mentored youth. The thesis aims to explore the various ways in which mentoring can be beneficial, while also considering the potential ethical risks such as power imbalances and boundary violations.

The social support of patients treatment at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology

Treating children with a malignant disease represents a very difficult situation for the patients and their families. The purpose of the thesis is to map social work, state help and support from non-profit organizations to families of children with cancer. Part of the work is a research investigation. The research was divided into three categories. The survey for families of children treated at the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic at the University Hospital Motol was made in the first part. The second part consists of an interview with a healthcare social worker. The third part is an analysis of the documentation of selected oncological patients. The main finding is - social work practice is sufficient. There is a variety of state social support, but it is very slow. Families are well informed about the possibilities of state social support. Families used financial support from the Good Angel Foundation and material support from other non-profit organizations. The respondents expressed interest in the information paper, the proposal of which is part of the thesis. The influence of resilience social support and religiosity on the wellbeing of victims of domestic violence in Accra Ghana

ABSTRACT Domestic violence and abuse continue to be an issue of alarming concern for governments and nations across the globe because of the threats that it poses to victims psychologically and physically as well as the family, communities and the nation at large. Although many studies have been done on the subject, these studies focus mainly on the antecedents to abuse and its impact on the victims. Few studies have also focused on the punitive measures and the legal framework around which perpetrators of domestic violence are dealt with less focus on psychological, social and spiritual factors that can improve the wellbeing of victims. It is against this background that this study was conducted to examine the influence of resilience, social support and religiosity on the wellbeing of victims of domestic violence in Accra, Ghana. Using the biopsychosocial and spiritual theory of illness and wellbeing, a cross sectional survey was conducted by purposively sampling 100 victims of domestic violence and abuse (M= 28.57; SD= 5.55) within the period of September and October, 2021. The respondents filled questionnaires that examined resilience, social support, religiosity and psychological wellbeing. Results indicated that resilience (r = -.52, p < .001) has a significant negative relationship with wellbeing while social support (r =.48, p > .001) and religiosity (r = .53, p < .001) has a significant positive relationship with wellbeing. Both social support and religiosity predicted wellbeing in the victims of domestic violence accounting for forty-five percent of the variance in wellbeing scores of the victims (p<0.001, Adj. R2=0.45). It is discussed that psychological support be provided for victims and this support should focus on resiliency training, family and community support and spiritual and religious mindfulness. Limitations of this study are also discussed with recommendations to chart the path for future studies.

Traits of the "cancer-prone personality" in women with breast cancer

The thesis is dedicated to the psychosocial aspects of women with breast cancer, such as stressful events, coping strategies, social support and personal and emotional factors and their possible specificity for this group of women. Aim of the theoretical part is a summary of the findings of type C personality, personality disposed to cancer and the overview of researches and particular results. The empirical part of the thesis is based on retrospective quantitative research with a focus on the number of stressful events, coping strategies, social support and features of alexithymia in women diagnosed with breast cancer (N = 70). These results were compared with a control group of women whose cancer have not been diagnosed (N = 81). The results show a significant difference in the amount of stressful events. Namely women with breast cancer have demonstrated significantly more stressful events prior to diagnosis than women without cancer. In addition, a significant difference has been found in the use of negative coping strategies which women without cancer experience using negative coping strategies more frequently than women with breast cancer. Characteristic differences in expected, accpected and offered social support between men and women in romantic relationships

The aim of the study was to determine the characteristics of gender differences in the anticipated and received social support in long-term heterosexual relationships. The author first created the theoretical basis for the issue of social support for subsequent empirical part. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve adult respondents and on their basis was performed a qualitative analysis of the data. Interpretation of the data suggests that women and men were very similar in anticipated and received social support. The results were discussed in the light of studies on social support in relationships and gender differences. This bachelor's thesis occupies itself with relationship between significant adults and development of adolescents. Theoretical part describes basic characteristic of these relationships, social development of adolescent, fundamental concepts and selected outcomes of relationship. In the second part is presented my research project. This project is focused on basic characteristics of these relationships in Czech republic and possible connections between these relationships and academical self-efficacy.
