Fighter against fascism as socialist hero. Two lives of Ján Nálepka
Bjaček, Petr ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Michela, Miroslav (referee)
After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1939 the Slovak part of the republic under the German patronage declared an independent Slovak state. From geopolitical reasons the Slovak regime as an ally of Nazi Germany was actively involved in many military adventures including the participation in the campaign against the USSR. The fact of Slovak participation in the German campaign against the USSR has become one of the worst acts of Slovak Clerico-Fascist government for the constituting communist regime in the renewed Czechoslovakia. The unpleasant history has been covered by an appropriate historical interpretation and a search for the new socialist traditions. Captain Ján Nálepka has become one of the solid symbols of this effort. Left-wing intellectual, teacher and reserve officer of the Czechoslovak army was called to the Slovak army after the formation of the Slovak state. He received the Medal of Bravery for the fights against Hungary and Poland and he even participated in the campaign in the USSR. In 1943 he defected to the side of Soviet partisans and he fell at the end of the same year in the fight for the city Ovruch as a leader of Czechoslovak partisan section. For his work with Soviet partisans he posthumously received the title Hero of the USSR. In the thesis I investigate the concept...

Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Václavů, Lubor (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee)
Two 1939 Soviet-German Pacts and Their Reflection in the Press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia Abstract The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the reflection of the Soviet-German relations in the Czech legal press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia at the time of the outbreak of the Second World War when the Ribbentrop-Molotov non-aggression pact (23 August 1939) and of the treaty of borders and friendship (27 September 1939) transformed the character of the international relations in the Central and Eastern Europe. At first, the text concentrates on analysis of the contemporaneous circumstances both in terms of international relations in Europe and in terms of internal domestic policies in the protectorate. In the following part, the author discusses the protectorate press response to the two German-Soviet treaties as well as the press attitudes to a number of other related issues such as the Soviet-Japanese conflict in Mongolia. The thesis is based on research of a series of Czech protectorate dailies, namely A- Zet, České slovo, Národní práce, Venkov a Vlajka. However, it also takes into account two illegal Czech periodicals, the magazine V boj and the Communist illegal newspaper Rudé právo.
The Reflection of the Vichy's participation in Shoah in French Cinematography
Rábová, Michaela ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šafařík, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the difficulties French people meet when dealing with their war history when the Vichy regime collaborated with Nazis on the persecution and deportation of Jewish people. This topic is exclusively examined from the point of view of French cinema between 1945 and 2010. By analyzing the films concentrated on Shoah, the thesis shows the development of portraying Vichy's involvement in the genocide. The main aim is to answer the question on how was this issue shown in French cinema during the second half of the 20th century and to create a new chronology of this topic from 1945 until 2010 based on the analysis of chosen films and secondary literature. The thesis should then approve or disapprove the hypothesis that the intention of French film makers to point out the taboos connected with collaboration and Shoah increased throughout the second half of the last century which was enabled partly by the attitudes of the new post-war generation and partly by the change in the French politics.

Pokorný, Ondřej ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Svobodný, Petr (referee)
Bachelor thesis Norwegian World War II Experience - 65 Years of Its Metamorphosis examines a development of an interpretation of the Second World War in Norway. It pursues to analyze the Norwegian historiography on the background of the evolution of the same phenomenon in the area of Western Europe. From the first post-war years until the end of 1980's was the development of the Norwegian historiography confined to a generally accepted concensus which perceived the war as a struggle of the vast majority of Norwegians united in a resistance against foreign enemies and a limited group of their Norwegian henchmen. The field of the resistance was scrutinized primarily, then, in the 1970's, first research on the issue of collaboration was made. Nevertheless, the historical publications kept their black-and-white perspective of the war experience until the turn of 1980's and 1990's, when a new generation of historians broke into the research and since then it has been trying to achieve a synthesis of this dominant perspective. Moreover, this generation is focused on the grey zones of the occupation period. The thesis demonstrates that there have been striking similarities between the development in Norway and Western Europe, yet, the Norwegian historiography falls behind. Another area of interest is how...
