Comparison of the Czechoslovak 1st and 2nd republic from the point of view of the theory of authoritarian regimes by Juan J. Linz
Svoboda, Ladislav ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with pair of domestic regimes known as the second and third | Czechoslovakian republic. The choice of these periods of the national history was conditioned by a relative absence of comparative political scientific works on these periods and by timelessness and topicality of the studying of domestic regimes, that refused the idea of a liberal democracy twice in ten years. The goal of the diploma thesis is to analyze, compare and categorize the second and the third Czechoslovakian republic in the framework provided by the theory of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes by Juan J. Linz. In the first part the thesis describes the theoretical framework of the theory of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes with stress on the theory of authoritarian regimes, as it is the assumption of the thesis, that both the second and the third republic were cases of authoritarian regimes. The other parts of theory which deal with totalitarian and sultanistic regimes are only briefly mentioned. In the second part of the thesis there is an analysis and comparison of both regimes based on three research questions. In this part the thesis deals with the relationship of both studied regimes with the first republic and their relationship with a liberal democracy, then it deals with the very analysis in...
Women before the Extraordinary people's court in Most and Plzeň in 1945-1947
Přibík, Adam ; Rychlík, Jan (advisor) ; Kvaček, Robert (referee)
This diploma thesis is about the post-war retribution on all its levels, from international military tribunals in Nuremberg and Tokyo to work of two extraordinary people's courts in Plzeň and Most, of whose activity the text applies. The text aims on women, because previous theses were mostly focused on men, which hold the more important position in the Nazi regime. On account of different roles of both sexes there is a diverse structure of committed crimes - the most frequented type of crimes for men were crimes against the state, while in a women's case it was denunciation. This fact could be partly explained by lesser possibilities of women for direct using of a repressive apparatus of the regime. The aim of the thesis is to bring in a comparison of activity of both mentioned courts against women. Main difference between those two regions is that the most of the Plzeň region was in Czech inland, but the Most area was located in the borderlands with a German majority. We could say that the result for this fact was higher rigidity of the Extraordinary People's Court in Plzeň that exceeded the second court in both percentage of sentences and rigidity of punishments. The thesis describes activity of these two courts simultaneously, with regard to all types of crimes that were committed during the...

Rákosník, Jakub ; Kuklík, Jan (advisor) ; Vojáček, Ladislav (referee) ; Soukup, Ladislav (referee)
Dissertation: Abstract Jakub Rákosník: Changes of Czechoslovak Social Law in Years 1945 - 1956 The postwar popular democratic regime in Czechoslovakia was based on a strong social consensus which provided opportunity for leading political parties to realize extensive economic and social reforms. It was not only the nationalization of the economy (this task, in the case of large enterprises controlling two thirds of the Czechoslovak labor force, had already been finished before the communist coup d'état in February 1948), but also generous reform of social insurance towards the universal welfare state protecting all citizens and not only those insured. This program was inspired on the one hand by the long domestic tradition of social policy and also by the new postwar British reform made by the program of William Beveridge on the other hand. The dissertation is concerned especially with the analysis of continuity of social law. The structure of the welfare state in particular countries is a considerably lasting matter of fact. Even though the governments of various ideological orientation permanently carry out partial reforms of individual fields of welfare policy, the general range of expenses and the system of relations in between particular branches of the welfare policy embody a great extent of...

Czech Union of Journalists during The Prague Spring
Suková, Jana ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor thesis describes the Czech Union of Journalists in the Prague Spring. The aim is not only to analyze details of the situation in the Union of Journalists, who in 1968 went trough a major ideological change, but also on the issue of the journalists in the long term. I want to focus on the development of Union in 1968 and attempt to find answers to these questions: When did the Union became the authority that supported the reform ideas of the late 60's? Why there was a break between the members of the journalistic organization? In addition this work should uncover the relationship between the general development of the situation in Czechoslovakia and the Union of Journalists, to explain some of the attitudes of journalistic organization at the time. Finally, the work does not neglect neither media area as Czechoslovak Television, Czechoslovak Radio and all printed materials which were always shaped mainly by journalists. Therefore this work deals with the close relationship between the Union of journalists and media in general. Especially, this relationship in my work is raised during the first days of the occupation that Czechoslovakia affected on 21st August 1968, during which the media, thanks to relentless work of journalists, has become indispensable organizers of social events.
Media image of the rock music in the Czechoslovak print media in the period of normalisation
Husák, Martin ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The rigorosum thesis "Media image of the rock music in Czechoslovak print media in the period of normalisation" outlines the basic characteristics and features of the media's coverage of rock music from 1969 to 1989, relating to factors which shaped common music journalism standards both for official publications as well as the unofficial area of 'samizdat' magazine production. The aim of this research focuses on the role of rock music in Czechoslovak sociological and cultural development as well as on the censorship systems that undermined the qualitative values and principles of music journalism as a whole. On one hand, information for this thesis has been gained through oral historical accounts, on the other hand other methodical elements have been utilised to fulfill the defined goals in a more comprehensive way, i.e. by analysing descriptive and comparative perspectives, using samples from relevant periodicals. At the conclusion, the findings are supported by an analysis and interpretation of selected cultural and music events. They are divided according to the type and extent of media coverage received by official and samizdat periodicals.
