Muhammad Reza Pahlavi. United States of America and the shah's exil (1979 - 1980)

My thesis is dedicated to the period of years 1979 - 1980, when the islamique revolution in Iran established complicated relationships among a new Iranian government, shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and a government of United States of America with the head president Jimmy Carter. The aim is to map a context between shah's exil and happening in U.S. administrative. The first part deals with the onset of Pahlavi dynasty and its effect on the history of Iran. The second part presents exile years when the Shah had to frequently change his place of residence, and complicated development of opinions among leading members of the government. The third part contains a brief outline of other following happening in United States and the development of the exile government after the Shah's death in 1980.

Czechs and Slovaks in the country of helvetian cross: czechoslovak expatriate clubs in Switzerland in the second half of the 20th century

This thesis deals with the development and activities of compatriot organizations of Czechs and Slovaks in the 20th century that were associated in the Union of clubs of Czechs and Slovaks in Switzerland. The first clubs, which did not last long, were established in the 1860s. The origins of more stable organizations date back to the beginning of the twentieth century, when clubs such as Czechoslovak Beseda Slovan in Geneva and Czechoslovak Beseda Svatopluk Čech in Zurich were established. These organizations expanded after the big emigrant wave caused by the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. This period between the years 1968 and 1990 is the main objective of the following research. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one introduces some basic notions needed for the thesis and puts the existence of compatriot clubs in Switzerland in a broader context. At the same time, it deals with the most important emigrant waves from Czechoslovakia with emphasis on those emigrants that left for Switzerland. Milan Kundera's The Joke supervised. Critical reception of the novel in the context of its release and today.

Thesis "Milan Kundera's 'The Joke' supervised. Critical reception of the novel in the context of its release and today" deals with critical reflection of the novel 'The Joke' in the period from the end of the 1960's up to current reviews. The author dedicates first chapters to the cultural and political background of the release. The core of the thesis focuses mostly on critical reception of the novel, which is divided into three historical periods. In the first part of the critical historical analysis and qualitative analysis, the author examines critical acceptance of the novel in the aftermath of its release (1967-1969), in the Czechoslovakian and exiled journals and literary magazines in particular. The second part considers critical reaction to the novel throughout 1970's and 80's, and stresses outcomes of the reception in the sixties, official normalized critical reviews and the acceptance in the exile and samizdat literature as well. Finally, the last part of the thesis offers contemporary critical response to 'The Joke', analyzed on the basis of Czech journals, literary magazines and newly emergent Kundera's monographs and on the basis of French critical reception of the Milan Kundera's collected work in the prestigious La Pléiade Gallimard edition. The biographical study of Jiří Mucha and his journlistic work in pre-war, war and post-war years

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the life and work of writer and journalist Jiří Mucha in selected years from 1937 to 1948 . This period is further divided into three phases, the pre- war (1937-1939), war (1939-1945) and postwar (1947-1948) period. For each era are allocated three most important periodicals which formed the strongest pillar of Mucha's work. These are the Lidové noviny, magazine The Czechoslovak and Svobodné noviny. The thesis is also focused on Mucha's other publications from 1929 to his death in 1991. Each chapter contains information on the socio-historical situation, the status of the media at the time and also discusses specifics of Mucha's contributions to the above mentioned publications. The aim of this thesis is to map Mucha's benefit especially in the field of journalism and also to bring his personality closer. What is more, another aim is to compare the various creative periods by method of comparative analysis or what impact his writing had on the socio-historical events. The Czechoslovak desk of the Radio Free Europe: Its development and impact on the Czechoslovak history

The disertation is focused on development and importance of the Czechoslovak desk of the Radio Free Europe in period between 1950 and 1994. This broadcasting have gained in time of strong censorship significant and till now unresearched importance. In February 1948 the Communist party took power in the Czechoslovakia. After that Czech and Slovak democratic politicians had left country to the West. They wanted to break the isolation of people living behind the Iron Curtain and promote restoration of democracy in their homeland. In 1949 was in the USA established the National Committee for Free Europe as fomally independent citizens association. As its most known activity had became the Radio Free Europe (RFE). This radio station had became an important tool for political strugle between two blocks in time of the Cold War. The basic qestion is what real position RFE broadcasting have reached in this struggle. The estabilishing of foreign broadcasting to the Czechoslovakia was very difficult task. RFE started its activity as exiles platform for purpose of liberation the Czechoslovakia from rule of the Communistic Party regime. The study "Democrat Petr Zenkl (from teaching to the exile)" is a complex political monography of one of the most important Czechoslovak politicians, PhDr. Petr Zenkl. It focuses on his resistance to the rule of Austria-Hungary, his early activities and the beginnings of his political career, his municipal work in Prague, his participation in the governments of the First and Third Czechoslovak republic, his career in the Czechoslovak National Socialist Party and his leading role among anti-comunist exiles in the USA during the Cold War.

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi: A Persian Shan in an exile 1979 - 80

My thesis is dedicated to the life of the Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi between years 1979 - 1980, when helived in exile. The aim is to map this stage of the monarch's life and point out the important connections in the context of international affairs of that time, especially in the United States, as the U.S. administration had considerable influence on events in the Shah's life in those years. The first part deals with the onset of Pahlavi dynasty and its effect on the history of Iran. The second part presents exile years when the Shah had to frequently change his place of residence, mainly due to the complicated international political situation after the Islamic revolution in Iran. The third part contains a brief outline of the development of the exile government after the Shah's death in 1980.

Emigration from communistic Czechoslovakia and Czechs in Denmark

This thesis is dealing with emigration from Czechoslovakia during the reign of Communistic party in 1948-1989. The aim of the thesis is to interpret phenomenon of the emigration and exile in historical context and to supplement it with testimonies of Czechoslovak émigrés in Denmark, which was not very usual aim of Czech emigration. Emigration is caused by different reasons during periods, which makes the fundamental difference between emigration and exile. The thesis is concerning on unique motives and causal links of the emigration of every single interviewee as well as particular process of emigration and its influence to their attitude to native Czechoslovakia.

1 Abstract This thesis provides an overview of the journalistic work and life story of the cultural publicist A. J. Liehm acting from the 1940s in the most important Czechoslovak cultural periodicals. Furthermore, the thesis shows the contemporary context of the last century and turning points in our history. The most important periodicals, in which content the author was involved, are described in two separate chapters. They relate to the weekly periodicals Kulturni noviny and Literarni noviny. Other periodicals are mentioned particularly in relation to author's exile work. Finally, the thesis explores the French magazine Lettre Internationale, which the author founded in the 1980s in Paris. The author used to meet a huge number of culturally and artistically oriented personalities, especially from the film industry. After emigrating from Czechoslovakia in 1969 he continued to publish from exile and repeatedly has been involved into discussions and interviews related to the Prague Spring and Czechoslovak culture. This thesis aims to collect information both from various official sources and by virtue of personal contact with the author himself and to provide an overview of his personality and life.
