Petrů, Simona ; Bílková, Veronika (advisor) ; Tymofeyeva, Alla (referee)
The withdrawal of the Russian Federation from the Council of Europe and its impact on the protection of human rights in the country Key words: Council of Europe, Russia, Ukraine, aggression, human rights The thesis focuses on the current topic of the Russian Federation's withdrawal from the Council of Europe and analyses what impact this move may have in relation to the protection of human rights in the country. In the introduction, the author introduces two research questions with the intention of examining them from an international law perspective. In the first one, the author shows her intention to reflect on whether the Russian Federation's withdrawal was a consequence of long-term complicated relations between the country and the Council of Europe or whether it was a direct reaction to the invasion of Ukraine. The second research question is related to the impact of the country's withdrawal from the organization on human rights in the country, more specifically whether the organisation still had the possibility to have an impact on the human rights situation in the country given the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine in February 2022. The author considers both questions to be important in view of assessing the expediency and impact of Russia's expulsion from the Council of Europe. The...
Comparison of the "integration plans for refugees" of the Ministry of Education in the Czech and German language areas using the example of the Prague Spring, the Civil War in Syria, and the Russian-Ukrainian War
Peřinová, Anna Magdaléna ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Botlík Nuc, Tomáš (referee)
After Ukraine was invaded by Russia in 2022, one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the last few years has occurred. The wave of Ukrainian refugees has found their refuge and protection mainly in the surrounding countries, which have since been trying to integrate them into society until the war ends. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to find out what consequences the Ukrainian refugee wave has on the educational system of individual states. The emphasis is on the adaptation of elementary schools and the integration of Ukrainian refugee children into the collective. For this purpose, the method of analysis of the integration plans of the ministries of education of the Czech Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Austria was chosen. This analysis was then supplemented by the interview method with teachers and sitting in on classes at Czech and Austrian primary schools. The results of the survey show the far-reaching problems that schools must face when integrating refugees. Despite the long-term experience of some states with the integration of refugees, integration plans do not always correspond with the reality that prevails in schools. Nevertheless, the conducted research found that teachers manage the situation well and are well supported materially. The main...

Kallista, Petr ; Turková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Trunečka, Ondřej (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the media image of the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in selected Czech online sports sections and media. The chosen period is from 24 February 2022 to 3 March 2022, i.e., the first week of the invasion. The thesis is divided into theoretical, methodological, and analytical parts. The introductory part is devoted to presenting the theoretical background of the thesis, which is based on the relationship between politics and sport, as well as the way in which sports journalism has influenced and historically shaped sport. The second section presents the aim of the thesis, the research method and the coding table. In the analytical section, the thesis then uses quantitative analysis to examine the texts in the selected media. Specifically, the research focuses on the number, source and type of texts, the thematic focus and the space provided to the parties to the conflict. The aim is to present the media image in the selected media and compare the results. The output is a practical part in which the predetermined research questions and hypotheses are answered.
Framing of the situation in Mariupol in the news coverage of Novinky.cz, Blesk.cz and Deník.cz
Vokoun, Filip ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Moravec, Václav (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the presentation of the siege of Mariupol on three Czech online news sites. A sample of 500 texts from the year 2022 was used to examine how the selected media framed the news about the situation in the city. This research was supplemented with findings from thematic narrative analysis and other examined variables, such as the topics of the texts or the actors quoted. The thesis is divided into three parts - theoretical, methodological, and analytical. The theoretical part introduces the concept of framing in news reporting and presents the general frames and thematic and episodic framing examined in the thesis. This part continues by introducing narrative in war coverage and reviewing narratives occurring in the media in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The methodological part introduces the quantitative and qualitative research methods used in this thesis, the studied news media, and the sample of texts. The analytical part of the paper then presents the results of the analysis, which indicate an anti-Russian position of all the media studied. All the media examined presented the situation similarly, treating it primarily as a humanitarian disaster. The suffering of civilians and Ukrainian soldiers associated with the war was often presented through...
Media-facilitated Nation Branding: the Case Study of Brave Ukraine
Kazymyr, Daria ; Švecová, Martina (advisor) ; Jarolímková, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis paper discusses the application of nation branding through the realm of political communication. With the confluence of adept players and global perspectives across the communication, political, and media fields, the prominence of modern-day practices such as nation branding has taken on greater significance. Effective media management tactics also redefined the possibilities of public diplomacy, empowering nations to promote their ideas and beliefs on both national and international scales. The main goal of this research, therefore, is to highlight the pivotal role of countries crafting their public image for foreign audiences and the immense potential of the usage of various communication means and mediums to amplify the impact of their efforts. Another objective is to discuss the role of digital media when setting the country's politically-aligned public image. The case of Ukraine is offered to the readers as a comprehensive analysis of its nation branding campaign Brave Ukraine, encompassing an evaluation of its objectives, content, and execution. The empirical study of the effectiveness of this campaign on its foreign audiences, which was researched through a series of in-depth interviews, offers valuable insights into the interplay between a nation's public image, digital media,...
Comparison of Europeanization in the field of justice and interior in Moldova and Ukraine
Palkovský, Adam ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Martinková, Viera (referee)
This diploma thesis examines the theoretical concept of Europeanization in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. The ambition of this thesis is to compare the relative levels of Europeanisation in the field of justice and home affairs in Moldova and Ukraine and then place it in the context of the Russian aggression. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether both countries were sufficiently Europeanised prior to receiving candidate status, or whether this EU move was solely a reaction to Russian aggression. Europeanisation theory was chosen because it examines a process that is crucial for EU accession. In this case, it was defined as the degree of approximation of national legislations to the EU acquis in the field of justice and home affairs. The integration process is a natural response of states to external threats, but also an opportunity for economic integration and shared prosperity. This thesis therefore examines the motivations, but also the obstacles, that shape the bilateral relations between the EU and the countries aspiring to EU membership. Last but not least, it places the results of the analytical part of the thesis in a broader context and subjects them to a critical discussion in order to determine whether the granting of candidate status to...
The experience of kindergarten teachers with the integration of Ukrainian children
ABSTRACT This bachelor's thesis deals with the integration of children with a different mother language, specifically Ukrainian children arriving after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. In the theoretical part which has four main chapters I first...
Czech desinformative of the first stage of Russian invasion of Ukraine (so-called "Speciál Military Operation" in Ukraine).
Štorek, Michal ; Stracený, Josef (advisor) ; Samek, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyse the content of 8 websites that were blocked by the CZ.NIC association on the 25th of February 2022 for providing disinformation in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The theoretical part covers disinformation in general, the annual reports of the Security Information Service and formation of Russian-Ukrainian relations from the creation of Ukraine until the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. In the practical part, an analysis of the content of eight websites blocked by CZ.NIC spanning the period of the so-called first stage of the Special Military Operation in Ukraine, is carried out. The analysis examines, on the one hand, the extent to which the so-called disinformation websites focus on the war in Ukraine and, on the other hand, which of the disinformation techniques described in the theoretical part were used and whether the narrative of the blocked websites in relation to the Russian invasion of Ukraine corresponds to the view that the disinformation websites promote the interests of the Russian Federation in the Czech Republic.
